CarMax is a holding company. Through its subsidiaries, Co. is engaged as a retailer of used cars. Co. also sells new vehicles under various franchise agreements. In addition, Co. provides customers with a range of related products and services, including the financing of vehicle purchases through its own finance operation, CarMax Auto Finance, and third-party lenders; the sale of service plans and accessories; the appraisal and purchase of vehicles directly from consumers; and vehicle repair service. As of Feb 29 2008, Co. operated 89 used car superstores in 41 metropolitan markets. As of the date above, Co. sold 222,406 wholesale vehicles through on-site auction.
