Detroit Edison, a public utility subject to regulation by the Michigan Public Service Commission and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, is engaged in the generation, purchase, distribution and sale of electric energy to approximately 2.2 million customers in a 7,600 square mile area in southeastern Michigan. Co. generates electricity from its numerous fossil plants, a hydroelectric pumped storage plant and a nuclear plant, and purchases electricity from electricity generators, suppliers and wholesalers. The electricity Co. generates and purchases is sold to four major classes of customers: residential, commercial, industrial and wholesale, principally throughout Michigan.
