Peabody Energy is a coal company selling coal to over 340 electricity generating and industrial plants in 19 countries, and owning majority interests in 31 coal mining operations in the U.S. and Australia at Dec 31 2007. Co.'s other energy related commercial activities include the development of mine-mouth coal-fueled generating plants, management of its coal reserve and real estate holdings, coalbed methane production, and British Thermal Unit (BTU) conversion technologies. Co.'s Btu conversion projects are designed to expand the uses of coal through technologies such as coal-to-liquids and coal gasification.
