Publix Super Markets is primarily engaged in the retail food industry, operating supermarkets in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. Co.'s supermarkets sell grocery, dairy, produce, deli, bakery, meat, seafood, housewares and health and beauty care items. Most of Co.'s supermarkets also have pharmacy and floral departments. Co.'s merchandise includes a mix of nationally advertised and private label brands and unbranded merchandise such as produce, meat and seafood. At Dec 30 2006, Co. operated 892 supermarkets, five convenience stores and 23 liquor stores. Co. also operated 39 restaurants in Florida through its ownership in Crispers.
