York Water is engaged in impounding, purifying, and distributing water. Co. operates within its franchised territory, which covered 39 municipalities within York County, PA and seven municipalities within Adams County, PA at Dec 31 2007. Water service is supplied through Co.'s own distribution system. Co. obtains its water supply from the south branch and east branch of the Codorus Creek, and has two reservoirs, Lake Williams and Lake Redman, as well as a 15-mile pipeline from the Susquehanna River to Lake Redman that provides access to an additional supply. As of Dec 31 2007, Co.'s service territory had an estimated population of 171,000.
