Ronald Prentki joined us in July 2008 as President, Chief Executive Officer and a director. His most recent prior responsibility was with Easton Healthcare Ventures, LLC, a business development and consulting company he founded in 2005. Previously, he served for seven years as President and on the board of directors at Progenics Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focusing on the development of products for HIV, cancer and supportive care. Prior to joining Progenics, Mr. Prentki acquired significant pharmaceutical industry experience while serving as Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Planning for the U.S. division of Hoffmann-La Roche; Vice President of Business Development for Sanofi Pharma & Sterling Drug; and in various management positions at Bristol-Myers Squibb and Miles Laboratories. He earned his MBA at the University of Detroit, and holds an undergraduate degree in Microbiology and Public Health from Michigan State University.

Mr. Sangster, 55, joined Micrus in November 2007 as our Chief Financial Officer. He most recently served as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of HemoSense, Inc., a publicly traded point-of-care clinical diagnostics company. From August 2000 through October 2006, Mr. Sangster was Chief Financial Officer of A.P. Pharma, Inc., a publicly traded specialty pharmaceutical company. From April 1993 to July 2000, he served as A.P. Pharma's vice president of finance and controller. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales

John Barr joined A.P. Pharma in 1997, and has served as a corporate officer since 2000, and was most recently promoted to Senior Vice President, Research & Development in September 2007. Dr. Barr has played a key role in evaluating and developing the potential of our novel delivery systems. Prior to joining us, he worked as the director of Biopharmaceutics for Cortech, Inc, a Denver-based biotech firm focused on the development of novel anti-inflammatory agents. In that capacity, he was involved with both the research and development aspects of the company's intravenous and oral programs. Dr. Barr received his Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Glasgow in Scotland, after which he pursued postdoctoral studies at the University of Arizona.
Jorge Heller, Principal Scientist, joined A.P. Pharma in 1993 from SRI International, where he served as director of the Controlled Release and Biomedical Polymers department. Prior to that, he was Director of Physical Sciences at Alza Corporation where he began his ongoing research in controlled drug release. Dr. Heller is a past president of the Controlled Release Society. He was visiting professor at the University of Geneva in 1988, visiting professor at the University of Keele in 1989 and visiting professor at the University of Utah in 1990. He is the author of over 135 publications and 30 patents. He received a B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley and a Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from the University of Washington in Seattle.
Arthur Taylor has served as a member of our board of directors since May 2006. Mr. Taylor has over 20 years financial and operating experience in the medical device, pharmaceutical and technology industries. From November 2007 until June 2008, he served as Vice President, General Manager Kyphon Products and Interspinous Decompression Devices, Spinal & Biologics Business, Medtronic Inc. Prior to the acquisition of Kyphon by Medtronic in 2007, he was Chief Operating Officer of Kyphon Inc., having previously served as Chief Financial Officer of that organization from 2004 to 2006. Before joining Kyphon in 2004, he served as Chief Financial Officer for Terayon, Inc., Evolve Software, Inc., Docent, Inc. and ReSound Corporation. He has also held senior financial positions with 3Com Corporation and Allergan, Inc.

Mr. Turnbull was elected to the position of Chairman of the Board in September 2005; he has served as a Director of Planar since 1986. He currently is self-employed as a private investor and a consultant. Mr. Turnbull was a partner of Cable & Howse Ventures, a venture capital firm, from 1983 to 1991 and served as an investment banker with Morgan Stanley & Co. and White, Weld & Co. before 1983. Mr. Turnbull also serves on the Board of Directors of A.P. Pharma, Inc. He received a BS in Chemical Engineering from Oregon State University and an MBA from Stanford University.
Toby Rosenblatt has served as a member of our board of directors since September 1983. Mr. Rosenblatt has been President of Founders Investments, Ltd., a private investment limited partnership since 1999. Mr. Rosenblatt also serves as a director of the BlackRock Open End Mutual Funds and is a trustee of numerous civic and educational institutions.
