Girma was born and grew up in Nazrath, Ethiopia, coming to the United States in 1982 to pursue a career in electrical engineering. He and his family presently live in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he is employed at Abbott Diabetes Care. He views his work as an opportunity to help others, and that gives him great personal satisfaction. He also takes great pleasure in volunteer work with the local Ethiopian community, and it has been his long-standing dream to also help the people in Ethiopia- especially the children. Girma heads up our Ethiopian project, overseeing both the construction and the ongoing management of the school. His knowledge of the local conditions in Ethiopia, and his personal interest in helping the people there, make him an invaluable member of Schools for Humanity.
