Dr. David Weber joined Abiomed in 2007 as the Company's Chief Operating Officer. Dr. Weber brings more than 15 years of management experience, including 13 years with GE Healthcare, where he most recently held the position of General Manager of GE Security’s Aviation and Transportation Business. He previously held the position of General Manager of Magnetic Resonance (MR) Marketing, a greater than $1 billion business within GE Medical Systems. He has also held several positions in marketing, clinical application development and product development. Prior to joining GE, Dr. Weber completed a post-doctoral assignment at the University of Wisconsin in Madison where he received his Master of Science Degree and Ph.D. in Medical Physics. He has Bachelor of Science Degrees in Physics from Denison University and in Nuclear Engineering from Columbia University School of Engineering.

Dr. Thorsten Siess joined ABIOMED in 2005 upon its acquisition of Impella CardioSystems, AG, which he co-founded in 1998 and has served as Manager of R&D, then Chief Technology Officer. His work in the development and marketing of the Impella LP2.5 and LP5.0 in Europe led to their CE Mark approval. During his time at the University of Aachen he developed the Impella technology which served as a platform for the entire Impella product portfolio. The products, which allow early intervention through a pencil-sized VAD, are now available in over 100 centers in 20 countries around the world. Dr. Siess is leading the effort at ABIOMED to make these products available in the U.S., pending FDA approval. Prior to founding Impella, Dr. Siess served as Scientist in the Biomedical Technology Team at Helmholtz-Institute of Biomedicine at the University of Aachen in Germany. Dr. Siess received a Ph.D. degree as well as his MASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Aachen.

Dr. Karim Benali joined ABIOMED in July 2004 as Vice President of Product Development. In January 2006 he became ABIOMED's Chief Medical Officer, leading the Company's upstream product development efforts and strategic clinical research functions. Dr. Benali has more than twelve years of international experience in medicine and research, with a strong focus on cardiology. He held several strategic positions in academic and corporate fields with leading institutions in Europe and has a strong background in the design and supervision of multi-center clinical trials. While at GE HealthCare, he brought to market two of the company's top products in cardiology. As Global Manager of Cardiology-Functional Imaging at GE Healthcare, he led the introduction of breakthrough applications in cardiology, pioneered the first cardiac procedures on the newly introduced hybrid imaging platform and positioned GE as market leader in Cardiac PET/CT. He previously held the position of Global Clinical Research Leader for the Cardiovascular Business at GE Healthcare. Dr. Benali earned a BS degree from the University of Algiers in Engineering Technology, an MD degree from Institut National de l'Enseignement Superieur des Sciences Medicales in Algiers, an MS in Bio-imaging and Bio-engineering from the University of Val de Marne —Paris XII, and a Pierre & Marie Curie University Degree in Biostatistics and Clinical Research —Paris VI.

Dr. Robert T.V. Kung has served ABIOMED since 1982 and has been Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer since 1995. He was Vice President of Research and Development from 1987 to 1995 and Chief Scientist from 1982 to 1987. Prior to joining ABIOMED, Dr. Kung was a Principal Research Scientist at Schafer Associates from 1978 to 1982 and at the Avco Everett Research Laboratory from 1972 to 1978. He developed non-linear optical techniques for laser applications and investigated physical and chemical phenomena in re-entry physics. Dr. Kung has been Principal Investigator for ABIOMED's National Institutes of Health-funded AbioCor and AbioBooster programs and has conceived of and directed the development of ABIOMED's laser-based minimally invasive technologies. Dr. Kung received a Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry from Cornell University.

Mr. Robert L. Bowen is the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Abiomed (ABMD), bringing more than 20 years of domestic and international management experience, as well as an extensive background in finance, business development and strategic planning. Mr. Bowen joined Abiomed from GSI Group, a publicly-held laser and precision motion supplier, with approximately $300 million in revenue, where he was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to GSI Group, Mr. Bowen was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Cytyc Corporation, a leading women’s healthcare company where he helped grow revenues from approximately $140 million to approximately $300 million. Mr. Bowen was also the Chief Financial Officer for Case Corporation’s European Region and held several senior financial positions in the General Electric (GE) Healthcare, Trading and Lighting businesses, with assignments in the U.S., Asia and Europe for a span of 20 years. Mr. Bowen received a bachelor’s degree in business from Ohio University and a master’s in international business and finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Mr. William J. Bolt joined us in 1982 and has been our Senior Vice President for Global Quality, Regulatory and Engineering since September 2007. From 2003-2006 he was responsible for our quality and service functions. In 2006 he received responsibility for our regulatory function as well. He is currently responsible for all our engineering, quality and regulatory activities. He was responsible for all product development and the AbioCor program from 2000-2003, and for BVS and AB5000 development from 1999-2003. From 1994 to 1999, he was President of our dental subsidiary, ABIODENT. From 1982 to 1994, he served in various roles, from Vice President of Engineering to Vice President of Operations. Mr. Bolt has a B.S. in electrical engineering and an MBA from Northeastern University. University.

Mr. Andrew J. Greenfield joined ABIOMED in January 2005 as Vice President of Healthcare Solutions, bringing to ABIOMED his expertise in six sigma and healthcare consulting. Mr. Greenfield held multiple positions at GE Healthcare from 1999-2005, including consulting with large U.S. health systems in the Enterprise Client Group, Six Sigma Master Black Belt, and Finance Manager. Prior to GE Healthcare, he held multiple positions in marketing and sales management at the Boeing Company including Program Manager and European Country Manager. He received his bachelor degree in finance from the University of Illinois, an MBA from St. Louis University, and is a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt and change management facilitator.

Mr. Michael G. Howley is the Vice President and General Manager of Global Sales and Marketing of Abiomed (ABMD). He brings more than 20 years of healthcare sales and marketing management experience, as well as a highly successful background in commercial sales achievements at General Electric Healthcare, with expertise in leading varying sizes of healthcare businesses ranging from X-ray imaging, PET/CT, ultrasound, Lunar bone densitometers to clinical information software systems. Prior to joining Abiomed, Mr. Howley spent 20 years at GE Healthcare. From 2006 to 2009, he was General Manager at GE Healthcare, overseeing the Americas X-ray and Interventional Radiology division, with revenues over $400 million. In this role, Mr. Howley developed strategic marketing campaigns directed to drive sales and X-ray portfolio adoption. In this role, Mr. Howley led the business to grow revenues and gain significant market share each year. Mr. Howley also held the General Manager position for the Clinical Information Systems at GE, a $200 million healthcare software division, where he drove the business strategy, messaging and strategic vision. Previously, he was the Americas Sales Manager of Functional and Molecular Imaging, where he led a hybrid model of sales specialists, a paradigm that was new to GE. Prior to this role, Mr. Howley held several other national and regional sales positions at GE, beginning his tenure with the company in 1989. Mr. Howley received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing from Auburn University.

Ms. Patricia A. Fitch joined ABIOMED in January 2008 as Vice President of Sales, bringing to ABIOMED her expertise in in field sales leadership, sales operations and sales management. Ms. Fitch joined ABIOMED from J&J Cordis Cardiology, where she has been the Director of Sales Operations and Development as well as holding several regional and divisional sales management roles for the past 10 years. Her earlier experience includes sales responsibilities with Schneider and Baxter Edwards Critical Care. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Purdue University and an MBA from the Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota.

Mr. Stephen C. McEvoy is the Vice President and General Counsel of Abiomed (ABMD). Prior to joining Abiomed in 2007, Mr. McEvoy spent ten years at Biogen Idec, Inc., a publicly-held medical therapeutic manufacturer, where he served as Chief Operations Counsel and Associate General Counsel. At Biogen, Mr. McEvoy supported business development efforts, managed the legal aspects of global operations, supported the research and clinical development activities, developed and managed the privacy and compliance program, supported the preparation and filing of SEC required forms, provided general counsel to the Canadian subsidiary and provided legal support for international business activities. Prior to this role, Mr. McEvoy was an associate with Palmer & Dodge LLP. Mr. McEvoy received a bachelor’s degree in international relations at Brown University, a master’s in business administration from Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.

Martin P. Sutter is one of the two founding managing directors of Essex Woodlands Health Ventures, one of the oldest and largest healthcare focused venture capital firms with nearly $3 billion under management. Mr. Sutter has more than 30 years of management experience in operations, marketing, finance and venture capital. Mr. Sutter currently serves on the Board of Directors of BioForm Medical, LaJolla Pharmaceuticals, and LifeCell Corporation, which is in the process of being acquired by Kinetic Concepts, Inc. (KCI). He formerly sat on the Board of Confluent Surgical, which was acquired by Tyco International; Rinat Neuroscience, which was acquired by Pfizer Inc.; and St. Francis Medical Technologies, which was acquired by Kyphon, Inc. Mr. Sutter is also responsible for the partnership's investment in Spinal Concepts, which was acquired by Abbott Laboratories.

Dorothy E. Puhy became the Institute's chief financial officer and director for Fiscal Services in March 1994. She was named senior vice president in 2001 and executive vice president in 2004. Ms. Puhy is chief administrative officer of Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare and treasurer of HealthCare Dimensions, Inc. Prior to joining Dana-Farber, she was chief financial officer at New England Medical Center in Boston and a senior manager at Ernst and Whinney. Ms. Puhy received her bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her business degree from the Wharton School.

John Pristas, MBA, Director of Clinical Operations, brings to Abiomed over 20 years of experience in the mechanical circulatory support field, with 11 years directing the Artificial Heart Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and nine years of industry experience in clinical and educational roles, including WorldHeart, CardiacAssist, and Evaheart Medical. John will extend this expertise to hospitals by sharing clinical best practices for delivering circulatory support, as well as operational strategies for developing and strengthening a hospital VAD program. John holds an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University.

Mary Mologne, MBA, Director of Healthcare Solutions, leads the development and implementation of the Partnership in Healthcare Program, working with thought leaders to improve quality, clinical outcomes, and hospital economics. She shares her extensive experience working with the Nation's largest health systems and healthcare suppliers, having held leadership roles at the American Hospital Association, Premier, Inc., and Cardinal Health. She holds an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and a Bachelor of Science in Health Policy and Administration from The Pennsylvania State University.

Lisa Reilly joins ABIOMED as the marketing manager for the AbioCor® Implantable Replacement Heart. For the last ten years, she worked with Medtronic in the Heart Failure/Pacemaker and Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator(AICD) marketplaces. A Boston, Massachusetts resident, Ms. Reilly graduated from Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Bukola (Kola) Masha, MS, MBA, Hospital Program and Marketing, brings to hospitals a unique combination of global marketing expertise, market research, and economic modeling as they develop and grow their cardiovascular programs. Kola shares expertise from across the entire mechanical circulatory assist device industry, as he also leads Abiomed's business and strategic alliance development efforts. Kola joined Abiomed from General Electric Healthcare, from which his experiences in leadership development, supply chain management and quality measurement have proven beneficial to both clinical and operational quality improvements within the hospital setting. Kola received his MBA from Harvard Business School, his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, and his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota.

Dan Raess, MD, FACC, FACS, Medical Advisor, is responsible for advising Abiomed's customers on best practices in patient care and will help guide product development for Abiomed's lifesaving circulatory support technologies. He joined Abiomed from the Cardiac and Vascular Surgery Associates (CVSA) Group, a private medical practice specializing in cardiothoracic surgery with St. Francis Hospital and The Indiana Heart Hospital, both in Indianapolis. During his 20-year tenure at CVSA, and more than 10 years using Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs), Dr. Raess has supported more than 50 patients on Abiomed's BVS® 5000 Biventricular Support System and the AB5000T Circulatory Support System. He has shown very high recovery rates (87%) utilizing the AB5000 technology, having recovered the native heart function for seven out of eight patients with such illnesses as viral myocarditis and acute myocardial infarction (AMI or heart attack).

An expert mechanical engineer, Dave Marro currently holds the position of Senior Design Assurance Engineer at ABIOMED Inc. For ABIOMED, Dave designed, and developed the database system which holds the clinical and design information for their artificial heart program. In addition, Dave directly contributed to the successful implementation of ABIOMED's innovative Bi-Ventricular System Consol. He developed protocols and conducted tests, the results of which led to FDA approval and subsequent marketing of the console. Earlier in his career, as a Process Development Engineer at Polymer Technology, Dave studied the polymerization reactions which produce rigid gas permeable contact lenses. As a Process Development Engineer at Kontron Cardiovascular, Dave explored the methods of Intra-Aortic balloon manufacture and developed valuable manufacturing equipment. Dave also supported a major FDA filing while at Kontron. Furthermore, at Millipore Corporation as an R&D Technician, Dave supported the Pharmaceutical Reverse Osmosis Project.

Gwen Mayes, JD, MMSc, Government Relations, leads hospital advocacy and public policy efforts and serves as primary liaison to the FDA, NIH, CMS, and healthcare associations. She has nearly 30 years experience in clinical care, health law, and public policy formation. Prior to joining Abiomed, Gwen was a practicing attorney specializing in medical malpractice defense, and she has held leadership roles with the Department of Health & Human Services with the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network and the National Scientific Registry of Transplant Patients. Gwen received her AB in biology and pre-medical studies from Transylvania University, her Master of Medical Sciences (Intensive Respiratory Care) from Emory University, and her Juris Doctorate with honors from the University of Maryland.

Jayanthi Prasad joins ABIOMED as a senior mechanical engineer for the AB5000TM heart assist product line. Previously, Ms. Prasad worked at EMC as a principal engineer for mechanical design and thermal management, and as a senior mechanical engineer for Tyco. A resident of Lexington, Massachusetts, she earned her Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and her Bachelor of Science in Production Engineering from PSG College of Technology in India.

Jean Pitner, RN, Clinical Operations, brings to hospitals and health systems over 20 years experience that includes 11 years of direct patient care in emergency, critical care, and cardiac cath lab, as well as over 10 years in the cardiac industry. Her leadership roles in clinical education will bring important insights to customers for improving patient outcomes through increased education of critical care, cath lab and OR nurses, fellows, cardiologists, and CV surgeons. Most recently, Jean managed the US Clinical Team at Arrow, and she brings this expertise in IABP circulatory support to Abiomed and its customers. Additionally, Jean’s experiences developing and managing global clinical teams highlights her ability to energize nurses and other clinicians around a common goal of improving patient care. Jean graduated from Baptist College of Health Sciences with a Diploma in Nursing and has been pursuing advanced education at Alvernia College in Reading, PA.

Mr. O'Brien retired in 2002 as the Chief Executive Officer of Allmerica Financial Corporation, a public insurance company. In addition to serving on our Board of Directors, he is a director of Cabot Corporation, a global specialty chemicals corporation, The TJX Companies, Inc., a discount retailer of apparel and home fashions, Abiomed, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of cardiovascular products, and a family of mutual funds managed by Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, an investment management advisory firm. From August 1989 to November 2002, Mr. O'Brien was President and Chief Executive Officer of Allmerica Financial Corporation. From 1968 to 1989, Mr. O'Brien held several positions at Fidelity Investments, including Group Managing Director of FMR Corporation (from 1986 to 1989), Chairman of Institutional Services Company (from 1986 to 1989) and Chairman of Brokerage Services, Inc. (from 1984 to 1989).

Joyce Bruzzeze, RN, MBA, Hospital Marketing, brings over 20 years of experience in critical care nursing, clinical training for intra-aortic balloons, and advanced medical product management. Her experience working with heart failure patients provides a unique capability to identify improvement opportunities between the Cath Lab and Surgical Suite continuum. Most recently, Joyce designed, developed and delivered international customer and sales training programs for Siemens monitoring solutions. Joyce holds an MBA from Suffolk University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Emmanuel College.

Laura Bentley, Hospital Marketing, provides marketing and advertising expertise to hospitals as they grow their cardiovascular programs. She supports hospital efforts to research market referral patterns and competitive landscapes. She brings to Abiomed over six years of experience developing and executing marketing strategies for several different industries including advertising, scientific publishing and biotechnology. Laura received her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Communications from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA.

Liza Heapes, Media Relations, supports hospital efforts to place patient success stories in both print and broadcast media, and she has been instrumental in the development and implementation of Abiomed's Celebration of Life events. She lends hands-on expertise from more than five years in the medical device PR industry. Liza received her Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University at its S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Nadine Brooks, RN, Clinical Outcomes, leads efforts to share clinical best practices through clinical protocols, clinical data assessments, and onsite clinical training sessions. She has a proven record in educational training and management, with nearly 20 years of critical care experience including total patient care management at some of today's leading cardiovascular hospitals. Nadine holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Services and is a certified Critical Care Registered Nurse.

Paul Wismer, MBA, Hospital Marketing Europe, provides an international perspective to U.S. hospitals, sharing best practices from Abiomed Europe. He brings significant experience in process improvements from the Cath Lab to the OR, with specific insights into the use of Impella. He holds a Bachelor of Science in German and International Business from The Pennsylvania State University. He served three years in the U.S. Army in various leadership positions of an Infantry unit in Germany. While in the Army, he earned an MBA from Boston University.

Scott Themo, Customer Programs, provides information and details about the Partnership in Healthcare Program and serves as a coding/financial reimbursement resource to assure optimal reimbursement for mechanical circulatory support. He also manages the e-Learning clinical training offering. Prior to joining Abiomed, Scott held a variety of marketing and account management roles in the software, information technology and biotechnology industries. Scott received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Northeastern University and completed cooperative education at Massachusetts General Hospital as a circulator in the OR and lab technician in the CV Research Lab.

Shawn Yang joins ABIOMED as a senior software engineer. For the last fourteen years, Mr. Yang worked for C.R. Bard's Electro-Physiology Division, as a staff software Engineer from 1989 - 1993 and as a software consultant from 1993 - 2003. A resident of Andover, Massachusetts, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Hefei Polytechnic Institute in China, in addition to a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University.

Teresa Levesque RN, BSN, Clinical Operations, brings over 20 years of clinical experience in the cardiovascular arena, with 15 years managing a cardiac catheterization lab. She will work with hospitals and physicians to launch new percutaneous and innovative cardiology products and to assure a seamless patient care path between cardiology and surgery as needed. Her clinical leadership roles with leading cardiology and cardiovascular companies will bring additional insights into various technologies as hospitals develop and grow their recovery programs. Teresa holds a BSN from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.

Vin Barry, Six Sigma Master Black Belt, leads the Six Sigma efforts internally at Abiomed and with customers to achieve optimal clinical and financial outcomes utilizing Abiomed technology. He spent over ten years with General Electric in a variety of leadership roles. Vin holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University in Boston, MA. He is a registered Professional Engineer and holds two U.S. patents.

Dr. W. Gerald Austen, M.D., has served as a Director of the Company since 1985. Since 1974 he has been the Edward D. Churchill Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and at Massachusetts General Hospital. From 1969 to 1997, Dr. Austen was Chief of the Surgical Services at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Austen is the former President of the American College of Surgeons, the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, the American Surgical Association and the Massachusetts and American Heart Associations. Dr. Austen is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a life member of the corporation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Mr. Ronald W. Dollens joined ABIOMED's Board of Directors in January 2006. Mr. Dollens is the retired President and Chief Executive Officer and founding board member of Guidant Corporation, the $3.7 billion company he formed following its split-off from Eli Lilly and Company in 1995. Prior to his position at Guidant, Mr. Dollens was President of Eli Lilly's Medical Devices and Diagnostics Division (MDD). Mr. Dollens' industry leadership includes the position as past Director and Chairman of the Board of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), the world's largest medical technology association; as well as past Chairman of the Healthcare Leadership Counsel. He has served on the Advisory Committee on Regulatory Reform, a group appointed by former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson.

Desmond H. O Connell, Jr. became a director of the company in January 2007. He has been an independent management consultant and private investor since 1990. He was a Director of Serologicals Corporation from 1998 to 2006, serving also as Acting Chief Executive Officer for a year and subsequently as Chairman of the Board until Serologicals was sold in July 2006. Mr. O Connell has served as a Director of Abiomed, Inc. since 1995 and is currently a member of its Audit Committee and Governance and Nominating Committee. During 1991, he served briefly as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Osteotech, Inc. Mr. O Connell is a Trustee and Director of New Community Corporation in Newark, New Jersey. He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard University Graduate School of Business and is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.

Dr. Rose is executive vice president for life sciences at MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings and CEO of Siga Technologies, Inc. He is also an active member of the National Biodefense Science Board (NBSB). Dr. Rose is currently on leave as professor and chairman of the Department of Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He pioneered heart transplantation in children, performing the first successful pediatric heart transplant and has investigated alternatives to heart transplantation, including cross-species transplantation and man-made heart pumps. Dr. Rose is a past President of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. Dr. Rose is also Morris & Rose Millstein Professor of Surgery at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons' Department of Surgery. Dr. Rose also serves as a Director of Abiomed, Inc., Nephros, Inc. and Keryx Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr. Rose is a graduate of both Columbia College and the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons.

Ronald W. Dollens is the retired president and CEO of Guidant Corporation, a Fortune 500 company acquired in 2006 for $27 billion by Boston Scientific. Mr. Dollens assumed the post as president and CEO of Guidant in 1994 when the company was formed as a result of a spin-out of Eli Lilly and Company, where he was the president of the Medical Devices and Diagnostic division. Mr. Dollens is currently the non-executive chairman of the board of Kinetic Concepts Inc. and a director of ABIOMED Corporation. Mr. Dollens received a BS in Pharmacy and Pharmacal Sciences from Purdue University and an MBA from Indiana University.
