Accelrys Inc.

Mark Emkjer has over 30 years of software and information technology experience specifically related to the Healthcare and Life Science industries. From 2003 to January 2009, Mark served as president and CEO of Accelrys, Inc., a publicly-traded company providing computational science software to the pharmaceutical, biotech and material science markets. During his tenure, Accelrys improved profitability and cash flow significantly. Mark has also served as president, CEO and board member for other software-based companies, including: Sunquest Information Systems, Inc., Pace Health Management Systems, Inc., and Hospital Cost Consultants, Inc. Mark holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Miami and a Bachelor of Science from Florida Atlantic University.

Frank K. Brown, Ph.D., has served as our Senior Vice President and Chief Science Officer since October 2006. Prior to joining Accelrys, from 1997 to 2006, Dr. Brown held positions of increasing responsibility at Johnson & Johnson, one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies. Most recently, he held the position of Senior Research Fellow within the Office of the CIO.

Mr. Mersten is responsible for leading the legal and corporate governance functions within Accelrys. He also acts as Secretary to our Board of Directors. His role includes oversight of a team providing legal across all business areas: commercial licensing, contract negotiations and administration, mergers and acquisitions/finance, intellectual property/patents, labor and litigation, and stock administration. Mr. Mersten has considerable experience managing the legal office for publicly-held technology firms and, most recently, held the position of Vice President, General Counsel, Assistant Secretary and Compliance Officer at Applied Micro Circuits Corporation prior to which he was Corporate Counsel for Integrated Device Technology, Inc. Admitted to the CA bar in 1990, he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles and received his JD Cum Laude from the Hastings College of Law at the University of California, San Francisco.

As Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Services, Ilene Vogt oversees all sales, pre-sales, services, customer support and field marketing activities for Accelrys. Prior to joining the company in 2008, she was Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations at Actuate Corporation, an enterprise software company specializing in business intelligence solutions. During her 14 year tenure there, she helped grow the company's revenues from $2 million to $150 million. Ms. Vogt's nearly 30 years experience in software sales also includes various sales positions at Interleaf (acquired by Broadvision) and Autographix. She holds a B.S. in Education from Ithaca College.

Dr. Hahn manages Accelrys' SciTegic subsidiary, developing and delivering data pipelining software and solutions to support R&D workflow. He has been designing and creating software solutions for the drug discovery community for twenty years. He co-founded SciTegic in 1999, growing the company to the market leader in workflow solutions, serving most of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, before its merger with Accelrys in 2004. Dr. Hahn received his Ph.D. in chemistry at the University of Santa Cruz under under Professor W.T. Wipke. Prior to founding SciTegic, he was Director of Development at Molecular Simulations Inc. for almost ten years, overseeing the development and market introduction of a wide range of innovative chemistry software products.

Dr Fretwell studied for his chemistry BSc (First Class Hons) at Lancaster University, (1988-91), spending the middle year at the University of Colorado at Boulder (USA). During the year in Colorado he did an undergraduate research product for Dr T. Koch, developing a method to measure the reduction potential of a stable organic radical species. He gained his PhD at the University of Leeds (1991-95) working for Prof R. Grigg on the Palladium catalysed synthesis of spirocycles, fused and bridged ring systems. Following this, Dr Fretwell set up and ran his own business gaining valuable experience of the commercial world before starting work as a software developer. He worked as a programmer for IBIS Business Information Systems, followed by Apex Software Systems in Manchester developing database applications for the financial sector. He combined his love of chemistry and computers when he joined Synopsys Scientific Systems in Leeds in 2000. The company became Accelrys in 2001. At Accelrys he is Solutions Group Manager, heading a team of developers working on cheminformatics software solutions.

Samuel Toba is a scientific researcher and a product marketing specialist with Accelrys Inc. in San Diego. Sam is originally from Indonesia and had been active with Immigration Equality chapters in Washington, DC, San Francisco, and San Diego.

Gary Costley, Ph.D., 64, is a co-founder and managing director of C&G Capital and Management, LLC, which provides capital and management to health, medical and nutritional products and services companies. He was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of International Multifoods Corporation, a manufacturer and marketer of branded consumer food and food service products from November 2001 until June 2004, and Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer from 1997 through 2001. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of The Principal Financial Group, Pharmacopeia Drug Discovery, Inc., Accelrys, Inc., Tiffany & Co., and Prestige Brand Holdings, Inc. Dr. Costley has been a member of the Covance Board since September 2007.

Larry Ferguson is the President of The Ferguson Group, a private equity investment and consulting firm specializing in information technology companies. He has over twenty years of successful experience in information technology, having served as President and CEO of both public and privately held information technology companies. He has held sales and management positions with XEROX, Baxter International, American Express and First Data Corporation. The majority of his career was spent as President of First Data Health Systems Corporation and its predecessor companies, where he lead its growth to one of the worlds largest healthcare information technology companies. Larry has served on numerous business and community boards of directors and has been a frequent speaker at several trade associations in the field of healthcare informatics. He is a current board member of MDEverywhere, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Foundation, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Athletic Foundation, ABOVO Marketing Group, and Daou Systems. Larry has a B.A in Business Administration from University of North Carolina - Charlotte.

Ricardo B. Levy, a founder of Catalytica, Inc., currently serves as chairman of the board of Catalytica Energy Systems, Inc. Dr. Levy served as director, chief operating officer, chairman and chief executive officer of Catalytica Inc. from 1974 to 2000. Prior to Catalytica, Dr. Levy was a member of the chemical physics research team at Exxon Research and Engineering Company. He obtained a Ph.D. in chemical engineering in 1972 from Stanford University, a M.S. in 1967 from Princeton University, and a B.S. in 1966 from Stanford University. From 1967 to 1970 he was general manager of a manufacturing operation, Sudamericana, Inc., in Quito, Ecuador. Dr. Levy has authored over 14 papers and patents in the field of catalysis and is co-author of a book entitled Catalysis in Coal Conversion. In 1989 he completed the owner/president management program at the Harvard School of Business Administration.
