As President, CEO and co-founder of Acucorp, Inc., Dr. Pamela Coker oversees the company's operations, focusing on the management of sales and marketing as well as international business development. She has more than 25 years experience in computer and software technology and has worked extensively with natural language processing - first at the University of California, San Diego where she earned a degree in Cognitive Science, then at the University of California, Irvine where she was awarded a doctorate and recognized for her accomplishments with a research specialty in Computational Linguistics. In 1983, Dr. Coker co-founded her first software company, which specialized in COBOL-based project cost accounting systems. Five years later, in 1988, she co-founded Acucorp - as a solution to the demand for a truly portable COBOL-85 compiler. From 1989 to 1993, the company experienced a 1,144 percent growth rate. Dr. Coker has been the focus of several industry distinctions and awards. Most recently, she received "Entrepreneur of the Year" by the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), San Diego Chapter. She has also been a finalist for "Entrepreneur of the Year" by Ernst & Young as well as the "Total Excellence in Management" award. Dr. Coker was featured in the article "Strategies for the New Export Boom" by Fortune Magazine and in the early 90s, she was listed in "The 50 Most Influential Women in San Diego Business" by San Diego Women's Times.
