Dow Jones Description
Advanta was founded in 1951 by Jack Alter, a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania schoolteacher, to provide individual, needs-based loans to fellow teachers. Today, Advanta is one of the nation's largest credit card issuers (through Advanta Bank Corp.) in the small business market. Advanta's exclusive focus on this market, as well as its size, experience, and commitment to developing meaningful product offerings and a high level of service tailored to the needs of small businesses, differentiates the company from other issuers. Advanta has long been an innovator in developing and introducing many of the marketing techniques that are common in the financial services industry today. Advanta operates two banks, Advanta Bank and Advanta Bank Corp. Both banks are FDIC insured and provide funding for Advanta. In the last couple years, Advanta's Innovation Team has been creating new ways to help small business owners. In 2007, Advanta launched ideablob.com, where entrepreneurs and small business owners can share and grow their business ideas - and even win $10,000 in a monthly idea competition. In 2008, Advanta launched the KivaB4B Project and BizEquity. KivaB4B encourages business owners to help entrepreneurs in the developing world through grants matched by Advanta, and BizEquity empowers the business community to better understand the estimated value of small businesses. Advanta Corp.'s common stock is traded on the Nasdaq Stock Market, LLC. ...
