Ms. Morris has served as Affymax’s president and chief executive officer and as a member of the board of directors since 2003. From 2001 to 2003, Ms. Morris served as president and chief executive officer at Clearview Projects, an advisory firm to biopharmaceutical and biotechnology companies on strategic transactions. From 1996 to 2001, Ms. Morris served as senior vice president of Business Development at Coulter Pharmaceutical, Inc., a pharmaceutical company. From 1993 to 1996, Ms. Morris served as vice president of Business Development at Scios Inc., a biopharmaceutical company. From 1977 to 1993, Ms. Morris held positions of increasing responsibility at Johnson & Johnson, including vice president of Business Development for McNeil Pharmaceutical. Ms. Morris serves as a member of the board of directors of MediciNova, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company, and Phenomix Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company, and as a member of the board of directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization. Ms. Morris holds a B.A. from Carlow College and has studied marketing at Western New England College.
Mr. Knapp has served as Affymax’s chief commercial officer since July 2006. From November 2005 to April 2006, Mr. Knapp served as senior vice president, Sales and Marketing at Abgenix, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company. Ms. Slocum has nearly 20 years of healthcare human resources (HR) experience. For the past three years, she has served as an HR and organization effectiveness consultant for Affymax. In that position, she designed and implemented performance management systems, managed recruiting, and developed and implemented a compensation and incentive stock plan. Prior to that, she was vice president of HR for the biotech company Deltagen, Inc., where she developed HR strategies and policies to support the company's growth, the integration of acquisitions, and expansion overseas. As a vice president of HR at the biotech company Corixa Corporation (formerly Coulter Pharmaceutical), she directed the HR function during the company's growth through Phase 3 trials and the building of a sales force, and collaborated with functional leaders to strengthen the company's productivity and manage corporate partner relationships, including with GlaxoSmithKline. Earlier in her career, she served as manager of corporate employee development for Varian Associates; external management consultant for Coulter Corporation; manager of training and documentation for Teradyne Telecommunications; and manager of training and development for AM International. She received a B.A. in sociology from Southern Illinois University and an M.S. in industrial relations from Loyola University of Chicago.
Mr. Mahdavi is responsible for leading the Affymax administrative and financial functions. He joined the Company after serving for three years as the Chief Financial Officer of PointBase, Inc., a leading data management organization. Prior to PointBase he spent seven years as the Chief Financial Officer of Ashtech, Inc., a leading manufacturer of GPS systems. Mr. Mahdavi attended University of Sunderland and is a British chartered accountant and a certified public accountant.

Mr. Dammann was an independent consultant advising biotechnology clients on their partnering strategies prior to joining Affymax. Earlier, he served as executive director of corporate partnering at Clearview Projects, a business development consulting firm. There, he was a member of the management team and was responsible for leading client engagement teams and for facilitating partnering discussions on behalf of international biotechnology clients. Dr. Cole has 30 years of experience bringing drugs through research and development to commercialization in the United States, Canada and Europe and has served in senior management and executive positions at Marion Merrill Dow and Isis Pharmaceuticals. At Isis Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Cole was Vice President, Technical Development from 1991 to 2004, where he established the product research and development functions that brought the world s first antisense oligonucleotide drug to market. Dr. Cole was also with Merck Sharp and Dohme Research Laboratories, joining Merck in 1974 and serving in positions of increasing responsibility in research and development through 1985. Prior to joining Affymax, Dr. Cole was active in the development of numerous marketed drugs, including natural product, small molecule and antisense therapeutic agents and, with his coworkers, has authored over 175 scientific publications and patents. He serves on advisory boards to departments of chemistry and chemical engineering for several universities, including University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, University of California San Diego, University of California Riverside and California State University, San Marcos. Dr. Cole received a Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois with Professor N. J. Leonard.

Lee Douglas was a co-founder of COR Therapeutics, Inc. During his 10 years at COR, he served in a number of senior management positions, including COR's original CEO. Since 1998, Mr. Douglas has been an independent consultant to biotechnology companies, including Cytokinetics, Inc and Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He was a member of the founding teams of FivePrime and Portola Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where he continues to serve as an advisor. Mr. Douglas also serves as a member of the board of Affymax, Inc. and Aerovance, Inc. Prior to co-founding COR, he was a general partner in the venture group at Robertson, Stephens & Co, and was involved in the start-up of several companies including Protein Design Labs, Inc. Mr. Douglas is also a Visiting Scholar in the Molecular and Cell Biology Department at University of California at Berkeley, where he conducts independent research on cytoskeletal motor proteins as drug targets in the protozoal parasites Trypanosoma brucei and Leishmania. He received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, MCRP from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and B.A. from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. If his research project makes sufficient progress, he hopes to enter a formal Ph.D. program before he gets too old to complete it.

Mr Douglas has served as a member of our board of directors since 2004 and as a member of our Compensation Committee since July 2006. Since 1998, Mr. Douglas has been an independent consultant to biotechnology companies. Since 2002, he also has been a visiting scholar in the Molecular & Cell Biology Department at the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Douglas was a co-founder of COR Therapeutics, Inc., a biotechnology company, and served in a variety of capacities there from 1988 to 1998, including as its chief executive officer from 1988 to 1990, chief financial officer from 1990 to 1992 and vice president of Corporate Development from 1990 to 1998.
