Dr. Fodor is one of the founders of Perlegen and has served as chairman of Perlegen's Board of Directors since the company's inception. He is also Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Affymetrix, Inc. Dr. Fodor previously held positions at the Affymax Research Institute from 1989 to 1992, where he spearheaded the effort to develop high-density arrays of biological compounds. Dr. Fodor and colleagues were the first to develop and describe microarray technologies and combinatorial chemistry synthesis, today known as GeneChip brand technology, for which they received the AAAS 1992 Newcomb Cleveland Award. In 2002, Dr. Fodor earned the prestigious Takeda Foundation Award for his accomplishments in science, as well as The Economist Innovation Award for Nanotechnology and the Oxford Bioscience Award. Dr. Fodor also serves on the Board of Directors of Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and on the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Institute of Washington. He received his B.S. in biology and M.S. in biochemistry from Washington State University and his Ph.D. in chemistry from Princeton University. Dr. Fodor was a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow at The University of California, Berkeley.

Barbara is Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Affymetrix, Inc. Ms. Caulfield served as United States District Judge for the Northern District of California from 1991 until 1994. While in private practice, Ms. Caulfield represented such companies as Microsoft, Hoffmann-La Roche, Apple Computer and Affymetrix. Prior to her tenure on the U.S. District Court, Ms. Caulfield was a trial lawyer in California and a Professor of Law at the University of California, Hastings Law School. Ms. Caulfield has tried cases since 1972. Barbara Caufield is on the Advisory Board for The Sedona Conference.

Dr. Melissa Cline is a senior scientist in the chip design research group at Affymetrix Inc., Santa Clara, California. Affymetrix is the market leader in the field of expression analysis platforms. Dr. Cline's work involves assessing potential content for future chip designs. Her primary responsibilities relate to alternative splicing. Dr. Cline joined Affymetrix shortly after receiving her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 2000.

As a management professional with over a decade of experience in finance and accounting, Michael Rabaca brings multiple expertises in team management, budgeting and planning, financial analysis, and system selection. Mike earned his B.S. in Biochemistry and an M.S. in Accountancy from San Jose State University, and began his career with Ernst & Young LLP in the Audit Services department. With Ernst & Young, Mr. Rabaca planned, performed, and supervised annual audits and MIS controls evaluations for public and private organizations in high technology, development stage, and software clients. In the mid-1990s, Mike became the Accounting Manager at companies such as Cord Blood Registry and ACCOM. At these companies, Mike acquired further expertise in a variety of accounting systems, staff management and leadership, and financial controls and policies. As Accountant and Business Analyst at Inhale Therapeutic Systems, Mr. Rabaca managed budgets and forecasts for various programs, and developed increased experience with SEC reporting, technology acquisition, debt offerings, budget tools, billing restructures, and legal interpretation for financial compliance and revenue recognition. Currently, Mike is the Senior Financial Analyst at Affymetrix, a Bay Area bio-technology firm. Over the years, Mr. Rabaca has realized a wide variety of significant financial and legal accomplishments, including streamlining budget processes through process improvements and implementation of efficient budgeting tools , key AP/AR interface reconciliations, and billing system improvements , which have led to major increases in revenue recognition and savings for various corporations.

Dr. Guthart joined Intuitive Surgical, Inc. in April 1996 and became Vice President, Engineering in November 1999. He was promoted to Sr. Vice President, Product Operations in January 2002. Previously, Dr. Guthart was part of the core team developing foundation technology for computer enhanced-surgery at SRI International (formally Stanford Research Institute). While at SRI, he also developed technologies for vibration and acoustic control of large-scale systems. Upon receiving his doctorate degree from the California Institute of Technology, he was honored with the Richard Bruce Chapman Memorial Award. In addition, Dr. Guthart received a BS in Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated magna cum laude and an MS and Ph.D. in Engineering Science from the California Institute of Technology.

Paul Berg, Ph.D., has served as a director since 1993. Dr. Berg is Cahill Professor of Cancer
Research and Biochemistry, Emeritus and Director, Emeritus of the Beckman Center for Molecular
and Genetic Medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1980, the National Medal of Science in 1983, and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society, London, and the French Academy of Sciences. Dr. Berg also serves as the Board liaison to our Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Berg also serves as a director of Gilead Sciences, Inc. and is on the Advisory Board of Schering-Plough BioPharma, a subsidiary of Schering-Plough Corp.
