AgStar is part of the national Farm Credit System enacted by Congress in 1916 to provide affordable financing to farmers, ranchers and rural residents. As a cooperative owned by its farmer members, AgStar is chartered to serve 69 counties in Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. View Map. About 10 years ago, AgStar began financing smaller "hobby" farms and homes for people who choose to live in the country but for whom farming is not their primary occupation. And in late 2003, we formally began offering this type of rural financing to mortgage brokers. AgStar Home Mortgage Services is able to finance rural properties ranging from a home in a small town (where comps are challenging) to a working farm.
