AIIM represents the Information Management community as the global association for both users and suppliers of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions the strategies, services and technologies which enable organisations to capture, manage, store, preserve and deliver information to support business processes. Organisations, both public and private, are operating in an era where they are called upon to be no longer simply ICT enabled, but "information management compliant". The emphasis in these times is about being able to handle the proliferation of information born as a result of the increasing number of channels and speed by which individuals and businesses are able to communicate with each other. This is key to successful performance. To stay in control, organisations must be able to manage information; and do so in a way which conforms with regulations and legal obligations, minimises cost, time and risk, and maximises efficiency, productivity and business continuity. Betsy Fanning is the Director of Standards for AIIM. In this position, she is responsible for all of AIIM's activities in standards including the standards and technical reports produced by AIIM as ANSI (American National Standards) and industry specifications. She is also the secretary for ISO TC 171, Document Imaging Applications Subcommittee 2, Application Issues. In addition to this, Betsy is the administrator for the U. S. Technical Advisory Group to TC 171 that represents the United States at the international meetings. She represents AIIM on numerous standards committees at ANSI as well as in other standards developing organizations. Betsy has experience in the development of standards as the chair of the Electronic Imaging standards committee for 10 years. She has also served as a member of the United States Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to TC 171, Document Imaging Applications for the last 5 years. Prior to coming to AIIM, Betsy held positions with DynSolutions - a correspondence, document and records management company - and with Westinghouse Electric. In both of these positions, Betsy implemented imaging and document management systems.
