Daniel L. Smith is a Raytheon Company vice president and president of Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) business. He was appointed to this position in September 2003. Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), with 2008 sales of $23.2 billion, is a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, homeland security and other government markets throughout the world.With headquarters inWaltham,Mass., Raytheon employs 73,000 people worldwide. As president of IDS, Smith is responsible for the operational excellence, citizenship and growth of the business. IDS provides global collection, exploitation, and effector capability for international and domestic customers, including: U.S.Missile Defense Agency, Army, Navy,Marine Corps, Air Force, Department of Homeland Security and numerous technology customers. Major locations are Massachusetts, Rhode Island, California, Colorado, Louisiana,Mississippi,Washington, New Mexico, Alabama, Hawaii, Germany, Australia, Saudi Arabia and Japan. Smith retired as a Lieutenant Commander from the U.S. Navy. He is a member of the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara, an honorary military society of the U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery. He is a recipient of the Rodney D. Chipp Memorial Award from the Society of Women Engineers. He is a trustee of the Association of the U.S. Army. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Naval Submarine League and is a lifetime member of the Surface Navy Association and the Air Defense Artillery Association. He is on the Board of Directors of Raytheon Australia, a member of Australian AirWarfare Destroyer Principals board of directors and is board chairman for Raytheon Solipsys. Smith is also a member of the Northeastern University Board of Overseers and the Massachusetts Business Roundtable. He co-chaired the Blue Ribbon commission for math and science education with the governor of Rhode Island. Smith earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in business administration from Chapman University in Orange, Calif.
