Mr. Harriott has seventeen years of experience in the environmental field. His principal responsibilities at Versar's ESM Operations are centered on investigation and analysis of wetlands and terrestrial ecosystems, particularly relating to description, quantification, and impact analysis of ecological habitats, wildlife, and threatened and endangered flora and fauna. In late 2005 Mr. Harriott lead a Versar ESM team in delineating and mapping wetlands on about 1,200 acres in the Baileys Creek watershed at Fort Lee, Virginia. In addition, Mr. Harriott recently led a Versar ESM team in delineating and mapping wetlands on the approximately 1,500-acre Firebrake site at Fort Lee. Wetlands were delineated at the Baileys Creek and Firebrake sites by using the methodology contained in the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual, as revised (subsequently referred to as 1987 Manual), and other appropriate related guidance. Data were collected at a total of 12 stations (upland and wetland) throughout the Firebrake site (other data are currently being collected at Baileys Creek). All wetland areas were subsequently surveyed via a differential global positioning system (DGPS). The DGPS unit used for the surveying was a Trimble GeoXT system that collected real-time, differentially-corrected satellite data. At the Marine Corps Base in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Mr. Harriott recently lead a Versar team that completed wetlands delineations on sites totaling over 10,000 acres. Wetlands at Camp Lejeune were accurately mapped by Mr. Harriott and his team using a Trimble differential global positioning system (DGPS; sub-meter accuracy). The technically difficult Camp Lejeune delineations were entirely within the eastern North Carolina coastal plain. Habitats encompassed by the Versar delineations include estuarine and freshwater tidal marshes, bottomland hardwood forests, pocosins, pine plantations, and developed areas. For the USACE, Philadelphia District, Mr. Harriott is currently leading the Versar team in the ongoing installation of approximately 80,000 native wetlands plants at the Lower Cape May Meadows Environmental Restoration site. The Lower Cape May Meadows site is located at the southern tip of New Jersey on the Atlantic Ocean side of the Cape May Peninsula. It is an internationally recognized site for the observation and study of migrating birds. Prior to the Versar restoration planting, common reed was successfully removed from approximately 60 acres of the site through herbicide application and mowing. The 80,000 plants for the project consisted of12 native species grown from seed collected on-site. Approximately 60,000 of the total restoration plants have been installed to date; another 20,000 will be installed in the Spring of 2006. Mr. Harriott lead the Versar team that recently conducted a two-year survey of all vertebrate fauna on Fort Eustis and Fort Story, Virginia. Under this project, Versar is conducting four seasonal field surveys annually to identify and document the vertebrate fauna and invasive flora occupying Fort Eustis and Fort Story (approximately 8,228 acres and 1,451 acres, respectively). Both installations were surveyed for fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. A comprehensive list of all taxa observed or collected were produced, along with location, relative abundance, and distribution data. All specimens were photographed where possible. The location and severity of invasive species problems were also be documented, and management recommendations were made.
