Curt Hurst is a knowledgeable business executive with over 25 years of experience in the operation of waste-to-energy and chemical facilities. He has been part of the tremendous success of branching American Ref-Fuel to six facilities and generating $450 million in revenue per year. Currently, he is President of Peloton Business Associates, LLC, providing support to business executives and owners to help them achieve significant improvement. Curt was raised in the Midwest and pursued his love of machinery at Purdue University. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Air Products and Chemicals provided him with the opportunity to put his knowledge to use. During his early years in the field, he worked on machinery in chemical plants throughout the United States, as well as in South America and Europe. Air Products' joint venture, American Ref-Fuel, offered Curt an opportunity to combine his technical skills with his managerial talent, and subsequently he became start-up manager of American Ref-Fuel's premier waste-to-energy facility on Long Island, NY. This also marked the first use of the German DBA technology in the USA. In terms of profit, safety and environmental performance, the facility is one of the most successful of its kind. As Ref-Fuel grew, Curt transferred to Newark, NJ to become Plant Manager of New Jersey's largest waste-to-energy facility. His focus then shifted to the customer and employee aspects of the business. In 1995, Curt became an officer of American Ref-Fuel and took on various new responsibilities. He focused on developing leadership teams for the plants, planning for acquisitions, evaluating marketing deals and asset improvements. Growth in the waste-to-energy market gradually subsided and Curt's focus moved toward optimization of existing facilities. Curt took on the assignment of restructuring the organization by redirecting the engineers to get more out of the existing facilities instead of building and acquiring new ones. In 2004, Curt formed Peloton Business Associates, LLC to help other executives and individuals modify their businesses to realize their potential. Curt is an affiliate of Resource Associates Corporation (RAC) and The Total Quality Institute (TQI). Though Curt maintains his interest in mechanics, he has found the greatest fulfillment in developing strong, effective leaders.
