Elaine E. Whitbeck is senior vice president, chief legal officer, general counsel and corporate secretary for Alcon, the world’s largest eye care company. Ms. Whitbeck joined Alcon in 1986 and is responsible for all Alcon legal matters, including those pertaining to securities, intellectual property and patents, acquisition and divestiture transactions, employment issues, litigation, transactional matters, environmental law, real estate/construction, computer/internet issues, regulatory concerns (FDA, FTC, PDMA, OSHA), antitrust issues, benefits, banking/treasury, contract administration and records management. Ms. Whitbeck was also elected to the Supervisory Board of WaveLight AG in March 2008. Prior to joining Alcon, Ms. Whitbeck was the director of legal operations and shareholder services for Mary Kay Cosmetics, Inc., where she handled product liability claims/litigation, antitrust issues and securities-related matters. Previously, she was a trial attorney with the Dallas law firm of Vial, Hamilton, Koch & Knox. Ms. Whitbeck also served as protocol assistant to Secretaries of Defense James Schlesinger and Donald Rumsfeld in Washington, D.C. Ms. Whitbeck received a Bachelor of Arts, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and Echols Scholar, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia. She completed the Harvard Business School’s Program for Management and Development in 1993. Ms. Whitbeck served as the statewide president for the Texas General Counsel Forum in 2002 and 2003 and continues to serve on the statewide board. She also serves on the Advisory Board for the SMU Corporate Counsel Symposium, was a 2004 Honoree for the YWCA’s Tribute to Women in Business and was honored with a Women of Influence Award for the "2005 Great Women of Texas Event" by the Fort Worth Business Press. Ms. Whitbeck is a board member of Prevent Blindness America – Texas Chapter, the Lena Pope Home (child protection and adoption) and ORBIS International (the "Flying Eye Hospital").

Richard Rush is an experienced Quality Management executive with over 15 years in the medical device industry, working in companies ranging from small early stage start-ups to large established ones. His work in Quality, as well as Manufacturing and Regulatory Affairs, during periods of high growth, has led him to a practical, flexible and disciplined approach to systems. Efficiency and effectiveness are the measures of success in his results. In his consulting work, Richard is committed to working with small and growing companies to establish Quality Systems that prepare them for long periods of expansion. He is well qualified to work closely with employees of those companies to prepare them for growing leadership roles that they must assume during times of expansion, crises and on-going operations. Finally, he can provide important, insightful assessments as companies evaluate their own systems for market-readiness or those of third parties as they engage in business partnerships, mergers or acquisitions. A former Vice President at Guidant Corporation, Richard has held leadership positions at other internationally respected companies such as Alcon Laboratories, and Coherent, Incorporated. He has a Masters degree in Business Administration (UC Berkeley), a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering (UI Urbana) and advanced coursework from Universities of Iowa, Michigan, and Wisconsin. He is a long time member of the American Society for Quality.

Dr. Robert Arleo obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Hofstra University where he graduated Cum Laude and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York (SUNY) Health Science Center, Brooklyn New York where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine and Residency in Ophthalmology at the SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse. Dr. Arleo started practice in Ithaca, New York in 1994 and became Board Certified in Ophthalmology in 1995 by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Arleo is a Clinical Investigator for Alcon Laboratories. He lectures nationally on cataract instruments and techniques. Dr. Arleo has advanced training and certification in excimer laser surgery for astigmatism, myopia, and hyperopia and was the first refractive surgeon in the region to use the LADARVision 4000 system.

Steve Charles, MD is a board certified ophthalmologist and leading vitreoretinal surgeon. He has developed many of the techniques and devices used by vitreoretinal surgeons worldwide. He has performed approximately 20,000 vitreoretinal surgeries, lectured and operated in 20 countries, delivered 10 named lectures, 950 lectures, authored a leading textbook in the field which is now in the 4th edition, authored 140 articles in the medical literature, and written 41 book chapters. He is on the editorial boards of Retina, Vitreoretinal Surgery and Technology, and a reviewer for Ophthalmology, Archives of Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, and several other peer reviewed journals. He is also a mechanical and electrical engineer, has 48 patents, has helped start several medical device startup companies, and is a consultant for Alcon Laboratories and OptiMedica. He is the Chairman and founder of MicroDexterity Systems, a medical device company building medical robots for dexterity enhancement for minimally invasive knee and hip replacement, spine surgery, and skull base neurosurgery. Dr. Charles has been listed in Best Doctors in America and Best Ophthalmologists in America many times and has received the prestigious Wacker Medal from the Club Jules Gonin, the first Founders Medal from the Vitreous Society, was inducted into the University of Miami School of Medicine Medical Alumni Association Hall of Fame, and was named by Ocular Surgery News as one of the top ten innovators in the past 25 years. He is a Clinical Professor at the University of Tennessee and an Adjunct Professor at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is a member of the Retina Society, Macula Society, Club Jules Gonin, American Society of Retinal Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology, his local and state medical and ophthalmology societies, and several engineering organizations. He has three daughters, one practices gynecology, another is in family practice and the youngest runs adventure challege programs for a non-profit. Dr Charles is single, lifts weights, rides horses, plays tennis, water skis, and is an activist for human rights issues.

Zixia Feng has a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry. He was a lecturer at Shanghai Medical University before coming to America. Currently, he is a principal scientist at Alcon Laboratories. He has performed bamboo flute and other instruments in amateur bands as a soloist and accompanist for many years. He is the founder, current president, and Music Director of the Four Seasons Chinese Orchestra.

Mr. de Vink joined the Alcon, Inc. board in March 2002. Mr. de Vink has served as Founding Partner of Blackstone Health Care Partners since April 2003. Prior to that, he was Chairman, International Health Care Partners from November 2000. Mr. de Vink was formerly Chairman, President and CEO of Warner-Lambert Company. Mr. de Vink is a member of the board of directors of Roche Holding AG and Flamel Technologies S.A. Mr. de Vink is also a member of Sotheby's International Advisory Board and a member of the European Advisory Council of Rothschild & Cie.

Dr. Bauer joined the Alcon, Inc. board in March 2002 and has served as Executive Vice President, Technical, Production, Environment and R&D of Nestlé since May 2002. In February 2007, he was appointed Chief Technology Officer, Head of Innovation, Technology R&D. Dr. Bauer began his career with Nestlé in 1990 as Head of Nestlé Research Center in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 1996, he became Head of R&D worldwide. In 1998, he moved to South Africa as Technical Manager for Nestlé South and East Africa and in 2000 he took over the position of Managing Director, Nestlé South and East Africa. Dr. Bauer is Chairman and a director of Sofinol S.A. and Vice Chairman and a director of Life Ventures S.A. and Nutrition-Wellness Venture AG. Dr. Bauer also serves as a director of L'Oréal S.A. and Uprona (Canada) Ltd. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of Cereal Partners Worldwide (CPW) and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Nestlé Deutschland AG. Dr. Bauer is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Bertelsmann Foundation, Germany, and a board member of the Swiss Society of Chemical Industries, Switzerland.
