Algoma Steel Inc.

Armando Plastino is a graduate of Ryerson University with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. He began his career with Algoma Steel in 1972. Since then, he has served in a series of varied and progressive positions including superintendent of electrical maintenance, superintendent of maintenance, director of plate business, director of sheet business, general manager of flat roll operations, vice president operations and most recently, as chief operating officer. Mr. Plastino was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Essar Steel Algoma on March 27, 2009.

Mark Nogalo has been with Algoma since 1987 in a host of varied and progressive roles, most recently as Vice President, Major Projects, Engineering, Construction and Services. His expertise lies in energy management, asset reliability and the execution of capital projects. A professional engineer, Mark holds a Masters in Business Administration from Lake Superior State University and an undergrad in mechanical engineering from Queens University. As Vice President of Operations, Mark assumes accountability for primary and flat roll operations and quality and technical services in addition to a multitude of capital projects associated with Essar Steel Algoma's expansion to 4 million tons.

Paul Royal joined Algoma Steel Inc. in April 2004 as vice president commercial. Mr. Royal came to Algoma from Orion Bus Industries where he held a variety of positions over his seven years with that company including executive vice president, vice president corporate affairs and corporate counsel. Mr. Royal practiced commercial law with Stikeman Elliott prior to joining Orion. He has experience in commercial operations, business development and legal affairs and holds a bachelor of law from Dalhousie University and a masters of business administration from the Ivey School of Business. Mr. Royal is based at Algoma Steel's Burlington office and is accountable for establishing and managing the commercial strategy for all existing and new products and services.

Pramod Shukla has been with the Essar Group since 2003 as Vice President of Cold Rolling Mill and Downstream Complex. At Essar he has led the projects and operations functions. Previously he was with Tata Steel where he worked in a variety of roles and acquired deep knowledge and experience in flat roll operations, project management, equipment manufacturing for major projects, system automation, business process reengineering, TQM and quality systems. Pramod is a mechanical engineer from the Institute of Technology, Varanasi, India with a Masters in Business Administration from Xavier Labour Research Institute, Jamshedpur, India. As Chief Operating Officer at Algoma he assumes accountability for the performance of all operational areas including central services, supply chain management and environment, safety and emergency services.

Denis Turcotte began his term as president and CEO of Algoma Steel Inc. in September 2002. He came to Algoma Steel from Tembec Inc. where he served over 11 years in a variety of positions, most recently as president of the Paper Group and executive vice president of corporate development and strategy from 1999 - 2002. Prior to his time at Tembec, Mr. Turcotte led a group of employees that partnered with Tembec to purchase the Spruce Falls Paper Company from Kimberly Clark and the New York Times in 1991. Previously, he was with Kimberly Clark. A professional engineer, Mr. Turcotte also holds a masters of business administration from the University of Western Ontario. He was a winner of the "Top 40 Under 40 Award" in 1999, recognizing him as one of 40 people under 40 years of age chosen from across Canada based on accomplishments indicating vision, leadership, innovation and achievement. He also received the Lakehead University Alumni Honour Award in 2003 in recognition of outstanding achievements in business. Mr. Turcotte currently serves as a director with the Canadian Steel Producers Association.

Thomas (Tim) Armstrong (2001), Toronto, counsel to the McCarthy Tetrault law firm since 1993. Born in Toronto Dec. 3, 1931, he was chair of the Ontario Labour Relations Board 1974-76, deputy labour minister 1976-86, agent general for Ontario in Tokyo 1986-90, deputy minister of industry 1991-92 and consultant and adviser to the premier on economic development 1992-95. He is chief representative for Canada of the Japan Bank for International Co-operation and serves on the boards of Algoma Steel, Interlink Freight Systems and the Design Exchange.
