Liberty, North Carolina, is the site of our breeder operations, where specially bred hens lay over three million eggs per week. Breed characteristics are paramount to the quality of our finished products. We have selected breeds that result in flavorful, tender chickens with an ideal ratio of meat to bone. Eggs are collected daily, inspected, sorted on trays and marked by lot number. They are kept at a constant temperature in special cooling rooms, which promotes proper chick development. Every business day our specially designed trucks transport eggs to Allen's hatcheries in Seaford and Dagsboro, Delaware, as well as in Hurlock, Maryland. HATCHING... Once in our hatcheries we transfer the eggs to a setter room where they are placed in incubators. Quality assurance graphs keep track of humidity and temperature, while automated trays turn the eggs every 45 minutes to imitate a hen's natural instinct. After 18 days the eggs are taken to a hatcher room. During this transfer we use state-of-the-art equipment to safeguard the embryos, inoculating them while they are still in ovo. The eggs are then placed in atmospherically controlled cabinets with sufficient air flow to facilitate the hatching process. At one-day-old the chicks are transported to growout farms. GROWOUT... Allen's has about 500 independent growout farms and 28 company-owned growout farms.
