AMAG Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a Delaware corporation, was founded in 1981. We are a biopharmaceutical company that utilizes our proprietary technology for the development and commercialization of a therapeutic iron compound to treat anemia and novel imaging agents to aid in the diagnosis of cancer and cardiovascular disease. We currently manufacture and sell two approved products, Feraheme (ferumoxytol) Injection and GastroMARK ® . On June 30, 2009, Feraheme was approved for marketing in the U.S. by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or the FDA, for use as an intravenous, or IV, iron replacement therapy for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia, or IDA, in adult patients with chronic kidney disease, or CKD. We will market and sell Feraheme through our own commercial organization, consisting of approximately 150 seasoned professionals, including an 80-person specialized sales force, an experienced account management and reimbursement team, and a contract nurse team. We began shipping Feraheme to our authorized wholesalers and specialty distributors on July 13, 2009. The wholesale acquisition cost of Feraheme is $396.78 per 510 milligram vial. David Arkowitz joined AMAG Pharmaceuticals in April 2007. Dr. Lee F. Allen joined AMAG Pharmaceuticals in August 2007. Lisa Gordon joined BG Medicine in November 2006 as Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy. Davey S. Scoon has served as a member of our board of directors since November 2003. Mr. Skaletsky has been a director of Alkermes since June 2004. He is currently Chairman, CEO and President of Trine Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Joseph V. Bonventre, M.D., Ph.D. has been a director since February 2008. Dr. Bonventre has been the Director of the Renal Division of the Brigham and Women's Hospital since 2002, and has been the Robert H. Ebert Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Health Sciences and Technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the past ten years. Dr. Bonventre has also been a charter member of the Board of Directors of the National Space Biology Research Institute and the Board of Advisors of the Dean of the School of Engineering at Cornell University for the past ten and five years, respectively. He also co-founded Patientkeeper Inc., a provider of integrated physician information systems, during the 1990s and Pacific Biosciences, Inc., a private biotechnology company, in 2002, and has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of a number of biotechnology companies. Dr. Bonventre holds a B.S. in Engineering Physics from Cornell University and an M.D. and Ph.D. in Biophysics from Harvard University.
