He works with clients to ensure that business strategy, the client organization, and technology drivers are aligned so that tangible business benefits result. Dr. Thieme has a long history of activity in business and IT consulting. His clients include organizations such as Purdue University, John Deere Credit, Delta Air Lines, and Davis Vision. Dr. Thieme's project experience is varied, which represents how he spans people, strategy, and technology issues. He led an IT strategy effort for a $1.2 billion finance company. He worked on the eCommerce engine strategy for the world's third-largest Internet service provider. He facilitated a working team to improve the effectiveness of an IT organization by re-designing its structure to meet specific objectives. He led a project for the acquisition of a storage area network (SAN), a core part of a client's computing infrastructure. He diagnosed a customer knowledge base project, helping the client identify where high-value interventions could be made not only to move the project along, but to help the IT organization be more effective across the board. He worked on an IT transformation project for a global company that fundamentally altered the company's IT capabilities. He has led many projects that used advanced IT to open up new revenue opportunities and provide unique competitive advantages for his clients. Dr. Thieme also co-founded, managed, and ultimately sold a successful business and IT consulting company, Cambient, Inc. At Cambient he was responsible for leading and overseeing all areas of business creation and operation, including financial mechanisms, business development methods, hiring profiles and methods, technology skill sets, and adoption of new technologies. He motivated and led an on-going strategy planning process that resulted in a customer-centric value proposition for the company, defined organization roles and responsibilities, developed company mission and vision, and created a unique corporate culture. Dr. Thieme received B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University, and is also a graduate of the Society for Information Management's Leadership Development Institute. He is a member of the Society for Information Management; the MIT Enterprise Forum; and the American Society of Agricultural Engineering, where he served as chairman of the Information and Electrical Technologies Division. Surely Cisco CEO, John Chambers, is tired of wandering in the wilderness far below the peak of Mt. Dot Com? Since reaching the summit in March of 2000, Cisco's stock has lost 80% of its pre dot com bubble bursting value. Few blame any of this precipitous fall on Chambers. In fact, many believe (me among them) John Chambers to be the most capable CEO in the world today. What could possibly lure him to take the wheel of a born again American Motors? How about a challenge of epic proportions? A payout that could make him a billionaire many times over? Perhaps most importantly, a prominent place in history for having performed miraculous surgery on the backbone of our economy. Moving the executive suites from Detroit to San Jose wouldn't hurt either. And if that's not enough, tell John I'm available to carry his bags anywhere his mission of saving the American auto industry takes him.

S. Frank Mattox was a prominant attorney in New Albany, Indiana. He died in his sleep of an apparent heart attack on October 6, 2007. His obituary appeared in the New Albany Tribune on October 9.
Laurence Gonzales is contributing editor for National Geographic Adventure magazine and a lifelong student of the art and science of survival. His exhaustive research has revealed twelve attributes that are commonly found in survivors and lacking in those who don't survive their life or death adventures. His real life survival stories are riveting and inspirational, while his illumination of the science behind the survival skills is truly fascinating. In fact, those same skills can be applied to any difficult situation one might find themselves in --from strained relationships to struggling businesses. I found the book to be highly relevant on both a personal and professional level. Gonzales has distilled his research down to "twelve points that seemed to stand out concerning how survivors think and behave in the clutch of mortal danger" (p.
