American Chemical Society

Madeleine Jacobs is executive director and chief executive officer of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world's largest scientific society, with more than 160,000 members worldwide. Prior to assuming her current position in January 2004, Jacobs served for eight and a half years as editor-in-chief of Chemical & Engineering News magazine, the weekly newsmagazine published by ACS, and two years as managing editor. She has held other senior management positions in a wide variety of scientific and educational organizations, including the National Institutes of Health, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the Smithsonian Institution, where she served as the director of public affairs at the world's largest museum complex. Among her numerous awards and named lectureships are the Smithsonian Institution Secretary's Gold Medal (1993), the New York Academy of Sciences Women History Month Award (2001), the 75th Canadian Society for Chemistry Conference Lecturer (2002), the ACS Award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences (2003), and the American Crystallographic Association Public Service Award (2004). A much-honored science journalist, she has also received more than three-dozen awards for outstanding science writing from national organizations. She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the Board of Directors of the American Chemical Society. Ms. Jacobs received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at George Washington University (with honors and distinction) in 1968. She completed course work for a master's degree in Organic Chemistry at the University of Maryland in 1969. She received an honorary Doctor of Science from George Washington University in 2003.

Chuck Gahun received his B.A. in Government and International Politics with a concentration in Comparative and International Politics from George Mason University in 2001. He currently works for the American Chemical Society in their Software Engineering Department as a project manager, where he manages the development of custom software solutions for various business units. In addition to working at the Society, Chuck continues to consult with the National Center Staff on web and project management activities and is enrolled in a graduate program at the School of Management at George Mason University.

Andy Bond is presently a Senior Chemist with the PG Research Foundation. He earned the B.S. degree in Chemistry in December, 1990 and the Ph.D. degree in Chemistry (inorganic emphasis) in May, 1995, both from Northern Illinois University. Andy has been a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with Professor Gregory R. Choppin at The Florida State University (March, 1995-October, 1996), with Eichrom Industries, Inc. (October, 1996-July, 1997), and with the Chemical Separations and Actinide Coordination Chemistry Groups in the Chemistry Division at Argonne National Laboratory (July, 1997-July, 2000). Andy is currently a member of American Chemical Society (1989-Present), American Nuclear Society (1998-Present) and the Society of Nuclear Medicine (2000-Present). His professional activities include Program Committee membership for the Separation Science and Technology Subdivision of the ACS Division of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry (1995-Present) and he served for five years as the Division of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Poster Session Organizer (1996-2001). Andy has also served as the Secretary of the Separation Science and Technology Subdivision (1998-2000) and is now the Vice Chair Elect. Andy coorganized two symposia resulting in an ACS Symposium Series book coedited with Dr. Mark L. Dietz and Dr. Robin D. Rogers entitled "Metal Ion Separation and Preconcentration: Progress and Opportunities" (1999) and a special Applied Chemistry section in Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research (2000) arising from a symposium entitled "Nuclear Separations for Radiopharmacy". Andy has authored or coauthored 50 publications in 23 different journals (12 of which appear in five different ACS journals), three review articles, four chapters in books, four contributions to symposium proceedings, and three patents. In addition, Andy has authored or coauthored 79 presentations at national or international meetings, 15 at regional meetings, and he has presented three invited seminars. Andy's research experiences include separation science, solvent extraction, ion exchange, extraction chromatography, synergistic extraction, coordination chemistry, solution chemistry, radiochemistry, hydrometallurgy, radiopharmacy, actinide chemistry, structural chemistry, synthetic inorganic and organic chemistry, and environmental chemistry.

Dr. Goodrich is currently Chief Science Officer and his responsibilities include oversight of research, protocol development, toxicology, and validation programs. Dr. Goodrich has worked in the blood industry for 17 years during which he has managed technical staff and development programs in the fields of blood preservation and pathogen reduction technologies. He has been awarded 34 patents in the U.S. covering technology in these areas and has published over 70 articles and abstracts in the field of blood chemistry and biology. He currently serves as the Principal Investigator for Navigant's grants from the Department of Defense. Dr. Goodrich has also been actively involved in the development of entrepreneurial organizations from a consulting and advisory role. He is frequently called upon as an invited speaker on the topic of pathogen reduction of blood products throughout the U.S., Europe, and Japan and is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Chemical Society, the Southern California Entrepreneurship Association, the American Association of Blood Banks, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Photobiology, and the Parental Drug Association. Most recently, Dr. Goodrich was appointed an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at Ohio State University.

Irv Kraut completed his college education at the University of Illinois. Irv has attended specialized educational courses provided by the Department of the Army at Redstone Arsenal, the ATF, FBI and the National Association of Mold Professionals. Irv has also trained government employees for the United States Environmental Agency (EPA), Department of Defense and the Department of Energy and he has conducted training in the corporate sector for companies such as Monsanto, Abbott Laboratories, Johnson & Johnson and Service Master. Additionally, educational facilities including The University of California at San Diego and Santa Barbara have requested his consultation services. Irv is a contributing author for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the American Chemical Society. He was also recently appointed to the Board of Collier County Commissioners to serve on the Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) in Naples, Florida. The EAC acts in an advisory capacity to the Board of Collier County Commissioners on matters dealing with the regulation, control, management, use or exploitation of any or all natural resources within the County. The EAC is also required to review and evaluate specific zoning and development petitions with regards to their impact on natural resources. In addition to his role as VP of Sales and Marketing at Infrared Consultants, due to his 30 years of expertise in the environmental field, Irv acts as our Senior Environmental Inspector. He works in conjunction with our research lab to develop new and innovative products for the indoor air quality industry. Irv also provides training and educational support to our team of inspectors.

Jim Bell joined Food Safety Net Services in 2005 as the Director of Laboratory Operations. Before joining FSNS, Jim worked for over 25 years in different food and agricultural testing laboratories and has experience in the fields of microbiology, analytical chemistry, laboratory management, regulatory compliance, and research. Jim earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry from The University of Memphis and has completed some post graduate course work in Chemistry at Middle Tennessee State University. He is a member of numerous organizations such as IAFP, AOAC International, American Chemical Society, IFT, American Society for Quality, and the American Oil Chemists Society. Jim also has attended many workshops and short courses through AOAC and ISO in order to enhance his knowledge and abilities in the laboratory.

Mark Henry has a broad technical background with degrees in both chemical engineering and electrical engineering. He has a bachelors degree in chemical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and a master's degree in electrical engineering from the George Washington University. In addition to extensive coursework in circuit theory, signal processing, organic chemistry and physical chemistry, he has studied telecommunications, biochemistry and material science. He has used this diverse background to focus on cross-over technologies such as microelectronics and semiconductor physics. Mr. Henry attended law school at Widener University and Catholic University. Mr. Henry is admitted to the bars of the District of Columbia, Virginia and New Jersey and to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has also passed the qualifying exam for professional engineering certification. Before joining Staas and Halsey, Mr. Henry worked for the Westinghouse law department, writing mechanical and chemical patent disclosures for nuclear processing and other energy technologies. He also worked for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, examining patent applications in the fields of adhesive materials and various chemical manufacture. Mr. Henry is experienced in virtually all aspects of patent procurement from developing a strategy regarding where to file and which claims to present, to appealing before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Henry is also experienced in complex post-allowance correction proceedings. He has lectured on post-allowance correction and presented seminars on claim drafting. His work in patent procurement has been in a wide range of technical arts including semiconductor device electronics, organic and inorganic chemistry, wireless communication, polymer processing, optical communication and telecommunication. Mr. Henry has worked with clients in conducting infringement and validity studies. He has used these studies to conduct licensing and settlement negotiations and to counsel clients during litigation. Mr. Henry has also drafted complex patent licensing, product development and confidentiality agreements. Mr. Henry is the author of "State Courts Hearing Patent Cases: A Cry for Help to the Federal Circuit," Dickinson Law Review, reprinted in Intel. Prop. Today, "USPTO Reverses Policy on 'Bypass Continuation' Applications," Intel. Prop. Mr. Henry is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Patent and Trademark Office Society and the American Chemical Society.

Maurice is President, Chief Executive Officer, and principal investor in the corporation. He is responsible for business development and customer relations, oversight of operations, and human resources. Maurice has more than 18 years experience in the chemical industry, including large-scale manufacturing, technology development, environmental compliance, managerial, and business intelligence roles at Dow Chemical. His educational foundation includes a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Magna Cum Laude, from Texas A&M University and a M.B.A., University of Houston, Clear Lake, TX. Professional Affiliations include American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Chemical Society, and American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.

A highly disciplined businessman with a single-minded dream to build a great company, President and Chief Executive Officer, Rick Hudson founded RL Hudson & Company in 1980 as a seal distributorship. Today, Rick is considered an authority on rubber and plastics, as well as the design and manufacturing of products and components that use these materials. He is frequently asked to speak to business and professional organizations, industry and technical groups, and engineering students on diverse topics including Asian supply chain management and polymer technology. In 2003, as President and Chief Executive Officer of RL Hudson & Company, Rick was honored by the Tulsa Metro Chamber of Commerce as Tulsaa s Small Business Person of the Year. The following year, he also was honored by the U.S. Small Business Administration as Oklahomaa s Small Business Person of the Year. The company also has won numerous awards for quality and reliability from its customers. Rick is very active in professional and community organizations. He is Vice-Chairman of the Tulsa Metropolitan Utility Authority, a member of the Tulsa Metro Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee and a member of the Broken Arrow Economic Development Corporation. Bob Beffa is responsible for managing the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs at Cambridge Major. He has a broad range of experience in developing, maintaining, and implementing GMP documentation and control from initial clinical materials through commercialization of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. Over his career, he has authored and successfully filed a dozen Drug Master Files, and has contributed to dozens of IND and NDA submission documents. He has also participated in numerous successful FDA and client audits of the Company's facilities. He is an active member in the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the American Society for Quality (ASQ). Prior to joining CML, Bob worked for the startup company, Major Laboratories where he was a production chemist. As such Bob brings tremendous perspective to the Quality Unit as he understands the chemistry behind the documentation.

Mr. DiPasquale is responsible for developing NMR, ESR, and Mass Spectrometer sales throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He has 18 years of experience in analytical instruments sales and a strong chemistry background. He received a B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. Memberships include the American Chemical Society, American Society of Mass Spectrometry, Greater Boston and Connecticut Mass Spectrometry Discussion Groups, and Regional NMR Discussion Groups.

Ron is a partner in Cameron and Associates, a consulting firm focused on corporate venturing through technology and innovation. He is also a member of the Radical Innovation Group, a consulting firm that works with global companies to develop their innovation capability. Ron is a professor at Wharton and Lehigh University Business Schools. He is also a member of the faculty for the program on Corporate Entrepreneurial Leadership at the Danish Technical University. He is also on the board of directors of Primet Precision Materials, Inc. in Ithaca NY.

Dr. Bostick is the technical director for MCLinc. He received a B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University (chemistry) and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Georgia (analytical chemistry). He has over 30 years of experience in technical areas that include instrumentation development, separation science, spectroscopy, bioanalytical chemistry, hazardous and radiological waste treatment and waste stabilization, thermal treatment technologies, and regulatory and compliance issues. In 1990, he received a Martin Marietta technical achievement award for "outstanding insight and initiative in individual and leadership contributions in the waste management program," and in 1991, staff members received an R&D100 award for development of a process to recycle electrode-less nickel plating baths. Dr. Bostick has authored or co-authored over 130 publications and formal technical reports, and has three U.S. patents and five government-owned patent applications. He is a recognized expert in uranium chemistry, in-situ stabilization, and nuclear waste treatment.

Dr. Witczak has extensive industrial experience, as well as academic experience in carbohydrates. His work on levoglucosenone and its utilization to the synthesis of various classes of rare sugars led him to study the entire field to explore the hidden potential of this universal carbohydrate building block by expanding its application to medicinal chemistry of carbohydrates. His developments have made it possible to synthesize new classes of compounds important in biology and medicine (thiosugars, aminosugars) as potential therapeutics directly from levoglucosenone and have pointed the way toward new methods for use in large-scale chemistry. Dr. Witczak is a regular speaker at national and regional American Chemical Society (ACS) meetings, as well as International Carbohydrate Society meetings. In 2002, he chaired the Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry of the ACS and is the current chair of its award committee. He has lectured in numerous research institutions and has published more than 60 research papers and patents in the field of carbohydrate, medicinal and biological chemistry. In 1997, Dr. Witczak co-edited with Karl A. Nieforth a book entitled Carbohydrates in Drug Design, which has since become the leading reference in the field. In addition he has edited three books and is a guest editor for carbohydrate topics of the world-renowned journal, Current Organic Chemistry, and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Carbohydrate Chemistry, Current Medicinal Chemistry and The Investigational Drugs Journal. In 2000, Dr. Witczak was awarded the Melville L. Wolform Award of the ACS, Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry for his outstanding research contribution to carbohydrate chemistry and service to the Division. In 1997, he received the John S. Burlew award from the Connecticut Valley Section of the ACS for his outstanding contribution to carbohydrate chemistry. Dr. Witczak was educated in Lodz, Poland, receiving his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Medical University of Lodz. He worked at Purdue University as a postdoctoral fellow with Professor Roy L. Whistler, a world-renowned authority in carbohydrate chemistry.

A. Wallace Hayes, PhD, DABT, FATS, FIBiol, FACFE, ERT, Hayes is a toxicologist with over 30 years of experience. He has written over 200 peer reviewed publications and is the editor of the textbook, Principles and Methods of Toxicology, the international journal of Human and Experimental Toxicology and a co-editor of the Target Organ Toxicity Series. Dr. Hayes also is the editor of Cutaneous and Ocular Toxicology. Before joining Harvard School of Public Health as a visiting scientist, Dr. Hayes was Vice-President of Corporate Product Integrity at the Gillette Company, where he had management responsibility for the safety evaluation of a variety of consumer products, plant safety, environmental stewardship, and quality control. Dr. Hayes is an adjunct Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the University of Louisville School of Medicine and the School of Public Health, the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Hayes holds degrees from Auburn University (PhD and M.S.) and Emory University (A.B.). Dr. Hayes was an NSF predoctoral fellow at Auburn University, a NIH postdoctoral fellow at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and a NATO Senior Scientist at the Central Veterinary Laboratory, Weybridge, England. Dr. Hayes currently lectures at the Harvard School of Public Health and at Virginia Polytechnic and State University and in the Risk Assessment Summer School of the International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX). Dr. Hayes has served the International Union of Toxicology as the editor of the Proceedings of ICT III (Developments in the Science and Practice of Toxicology) and as the editor of the Proceedings of the 5th Congress of Toxicology in Developing Countries (Toxicology in the New Century Opportunity and Challenge). He has served as a delegate to IUTOX and on several IUTOX commissions. Dr. Hayes currently is the Secretary-General of IUTOX and a member of the council of the American College of Toxicology. Dr. Hayes has served on committees and expert panels for the National Academy of Sciences, the National Institutions of Health, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Defense. Dr. Hayes is a diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology, The Academy of Toxicological Sciences, the American Board of Forensic Medicine and the American Board of Forensic Examiners. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences, the Institute of Biology (UK) and the American College of Forensic Examiners. Dr. Hayes is a registered toxicologist in the European Union (ERT) and a certified nutrition specialist.

Dr. Schauss is the CEO and Senior Director of Natural and Medicinal Products Research at AIBMR Life Sciences, in Puyallup, Washington. A former Clinical Professor of Natural Products Research and Adjunct Research Professor of Botanical Medicine at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon, he has held academic appointments at other institutions, including: Senior Director of the Southwest College Research Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona; Associate Professor of Research at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, in Tempe, Arizona; Director of the Institute for Biosocial Research, City University, Seattle; and, Lecturer in Biostatistics and Epidemiology at Bastyr University in Seattle. He has been a member of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Alternative Medicine (OAM) Advisory Council (AMPAC); a member of the Ad Hoc Developmental Planning Committee of the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS); a reviewer of botanical standards and information monographs for the U.S. Pharmacopoeia Convention (USP); and, a reviewer for the International Bibliographic Information on Dietary Supplements (IBIDS) database, maintained through an interagency partnership with the Food and Nutrition Information Center, National Agricultural Library, and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), which provides access to bibliographic citations and abstracts from published, international, scientific literature on dietary supplements and their ingredients. In 1985, Dr. Schauss was appointed by the US government to represent the United States as a voting member to the WHO Study Group on Health Promotion after being personally selected by Director General of the WHO, Dr. Hafdan Mahler, whose appointment to represent the USA was confirmed by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In 2005, Dr. Schauss received the Linus Pauling Lecture Award for contributions in the medical sciences from the American College for the Advancement of Medicine for "contributions to the medical sciences." He earned his undergraduate, graduate (summa cum laude), and doctoral degrees at the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque and, California Coast University in Santa Ana, respectively. He completed post-graduate studies at the University of New Mexico, the University of Washington at Seattle, University of Washington at Tacoma, the University of Puget Sound, in addition to continuing education studies at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and California State University Fullerton. Having studied nutrition and botanical medicine for over 30 years, Dr. Schauss is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition (FACN), an Emeritus Member of the New York Academy of Sciences, former Chairman of the Food Policy Council of the National Council for Public Health Policy, an Honorary Founding Member of the British Society of Nutritional Medicine, and Emeritus Executive Director of the American Preventive Medical Association. He is a member of the: American College of Toxicology, American Chemical Society, American Society for Nutrition, Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine, Society for Food Science and Technology, International Society for Horticultural Science, and Associate Member of the Society of Toxicology. Since 1992, Dr. Schauss has chaired the Safety Subcommittee of the Compliance and Labeling Integrity Committee (ComPLI) of the Natural Products Association, the nation's largest natural products trade association, founded in 1935. ComPLI oversees the NPA's GMP certification program and TruLabel Program and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding quality and purity standards for products sold by its members. He is also been a member of the joint American Herbal Product Association and NPA International Committee and chaired the Asian Affairs subcommittee and served as a member of the Latin American Affairs and CODEX subcommittees. Andreja Bakac is an adjunct professor in the Department of Chemistry at Iowa State University and a senior scientist with Ames Laboratory, a Department of Energy facility. Her research interests include kinetics and mechanisms of inorganic and organometallic reactions; catalytic oxidation with molecular oxygen; activation of dioxygen by transition metal complexes; and chemistry of reactive intermediates in transition metal-dioxygen interactions. Bakac currently serves on the editorial board of the following science publications, Inorganic Chemistry, Inorganic Reaction Mechanisms, and Dalton Transactions. She is a member of the American Chemical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Sigma Xi, and the Iowa Academy of Science. In 1988 and 1990 she was a visiting professor at Tohoku University in Sendai. Bakac received her B.S. and her Ph.D. from the University of Zagreb. She completed her postdoctoral work at Iowa State University with Jim Espenson, professor of Chemistry, before joining Ames Laboratory.

Andrew holds a B.S. in Chemistry and an M.S. in Chemistry from Wichita State University. Andrew is a member of the American Chemical Society and holds Master's Certification in the following areas: Physical, Analytical, Organic, Inorganic, Electrical, and Biochemical chemistry. Andrew has spent the last five years teaching at Our Lady of Tepeyac High School in Chicago. He teaches a variety of mathematics and science classes, including AP Calculus, Physics, and Chemistry. Andrew has been the Department Chairperson in Math and Science since 2002 and is also the National Honor Society Induction Committee Chairperson and the Advanced Placement College Board Coordinator. Instructor in mathematics, verbal, and writing for a variety of standardized tests and mathematics and science for academic subjects.

Anne is an analytical chemist with a broad-range of expertise in chromatography, mass spectrometry, and GC-MS. At TEI, she focuses on the development and applications of analytical techniques and systems in the areas of environmental chemistry (air and water), petroleum chemistry, industrial cleaning chemistries and equipment, and process and product development. She also has extensive experience in the characterization/speciation of complex mixtures for petroleum products, flavor/fragrance products, and ambient, stationary source or indoor air. Anne holds a master of science in analytical chemistry from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Prior to joining TEI, she served as manager of product and process chemistry, analytical development, for Safety-Kleen, Inc. She is a member and past president of the Chicago Chromatography Discussion Group, and a member of the MCM Mass Spectrometry Discussion Group, American Chemical Society, Sigma Xi, and the American Society for Mass Spectrometry.

Art Springsteen is the president and chief technical officer of Avian Technologies, LLC. Avian Technologies specializes in the design and manufacture of instruments and standards for optical spectometry and other optical radiation measurements. Prior to starting Avian Technologies in 1999, Dr. Springsteen was Principal Scientist and Director for Advanced Development at Labsphere,Inc. for 13 years. During his tenure at Labsphere, he developed over 30 commercial products, including the Spectralon diffuse reflectance material product line, numerous optical coatings, fluorescent materials and accessories for measurement of reflectance, diffuse transmittance and fluorescence. He holds five U.S. patents (and has three pending) on materials and instrument design, won a 1990 Photonics Spectra New Product of the Year award (Optical Grade Spectralon), and shared another in 1997 for the development of the Labsphere bispectral fluorescence colorimeter. He has published over thirty scientific papers and may often be seen in the pages of Spectroscopy Magazine's "Spectroscopy Workbench"' section. He is also co-author/editor (with Jerry Workman) of the Academic Press book "Applied Spectroscopy, A Complete Guide for Practitioners," has edited the Proceedings of the Third and Fourth Oxford Conferences on Spectrometry. He is also a member and former Secretary for the Council for Optical Radiation Measurement, a member of the Board of Directors of the Inter Society Color Council, and a former member of the National Research Council of the U.S. He is also an active member of ASTM Committees E-12 (Color and Appearance) and E-13 (Molecular Spectroscopy), the Society for Applied Spectroscopy, and Council for Near-Infrared Spectroscopy. He holds a Ph.D. from West Virginia University in Organic Chemistry.

Dr. Nozik has been a senior editor of The Journal of Physical Chemistry since 1993. He is a fellow of both the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science; and a member of the American Chemical Society, the Electrochemical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Materials Research Society, and the Society of Photo Optical Instrument Engineers. Dr. Nozik was awarded the international Eni Award in 2008, touted as the Nobel Prize of energy research, for his work on quantization effects in semiconductor quantum dots, including multiple exciton generation, that could increase the efficiency of solar photoconversion.

For the past 25 plus years, Barbara has lent her scientific expertise and industry acumen to various aspects of USP operations. Before joining the Sales and Marketing department, she served as a USP scientific liaison in the areas of pharmaceutical analysis, dissolution, bioavailability, and General Chapters; was the Assistant Director of the Department of Standards Development; and acted as Director of the Executive Secretariat. Prior to USP, Barbara spent seven years honing her analytical research and development skills at Philip Morris Research and A.H. Robins Company. Barbara's research experience and interests include analytical method development; development of dissolution and drug release compendial standards for conventional and modified-release dosage forms; and establishment of purity standards for USP monographs. She has published papers and lectured internationally on drug purity and quality, dissolution and bioavailability of drugs, and USP and the standards development process. A charter member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences (AAPS), Barbara has served as chair of its Analysis and Pharmaceutical Quality section, on the Executive Council, and on numerous other AAPS committees. She is also a member of the American Chemical Society.

Dr Zoumas is a native of Reading, Pa., and holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Kutztown State College. At Penn State he earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in nutrition. He is also a graduate of the Senior Management Program at Stanford University. Dr. Zoumas has a background both as a scientist and a businessman. In 1997 he retired as Vice President of Science and Technology from Hershey Foods Corporation where he had been employed for 27 years. At Hershey he was responsible for all corporate technical activities including Research and Development, Quality Assurance, Corporate Engineering, Environmental and Regulatory Affairs and Agribusiness. Prior to joining Penn State's faculty, Dr. Zoumas spent 6 months as a visiting scientist at the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations in Rome, Italy. After retirement, Barry L. Zoumas accepted the position of Alan R. Warehime Professor of Agribusiness in the College of Agricultural Sciences at the Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Zoumas is the first professor to hold this Chair in the College. He also is a Professor or Food Science and Nutrition and is active in teaching, research and executive education. Dr. Zoumas is active in many scientific and professional associations. He is a past chairman of the Chocolate Manufactures Association of America's Technical committee, and also past chairman for the Grocery Manufactures of America Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Committee. He is currently a member of the National Academy of Sciences Food and Nutrition Board, and has been an advisor to US AID, FDA, and USDA. Dr. Zoumas is a member of the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association, the American Chemical Society, The American Society of Nutritional Sciences, and the Institute of Food Technology. In 2005, Dr. Zoumas was named a non-executive board member of Tate & Lyle.

Bob joined Environmental Energy Technologies in May 2008 as Vice President Business Development, where his primary responsibility is to develop Angel Network and Venture Capital investor contacts, prepare investor-oriented materials, including business plans, presentations, capital and financing plans, negotiate deal structure, and investor follow up. Bob holds a BS degree in Chemistry from St. John Fisher College, a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from The University of Illinois, and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He has >50 years experience in the field of research, R&D management, innovation management, and technology commercialization, both in large and small company environments. Bob spent 35 years with Eastman Kodak Company in a number of progressive technical and management positions, including Director of the Research Lab s Color Photography Division and subsequently the newly formed Color Instant Photography Division; Assistant Director of Research; and Director, New Opportunity Development. In the latter position, he organized and managed Kodak s worldwide corporate innovation and new venture program, which led to the commercialization of over 150 new products, processes, and businesses, including 14 corporate start-ups created outside the business unit structure. Bob played a key role as Kodak Loaned Executive in the creation and organization of High Technology of Rochester, a community business incubation program. He subsequently co-founded Innovation Strategy Group, Inc., which helped >25 worldwide clients develop the strategies, processes, infrastructure, and climate required to implement and sustain organic growth. Bob holds 9 US patents on color photographic process and systems, and has 13 publications in the fields of color photography, image recording processes/ systems, technology management, and innovation practice. He has also made several presentations, and has participated in seminars, workshops, and discussion panels on the subject of technology-based innovation. Bob is an Emeritus member of the American Chemical Society and serves on the American Management Association s Technology, Innovation, and Manufacturing Management Council. He previously served on the Review Board of the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization s Office of Technology Applications and the New York State Science & Technology Foundation s R&D Grant Committee. Bob enjoys reading, grandchildren, golf, and, boating and serves as Treasurer on the Board of his local Homeowners Association.

Dr. Carter Naylor is a consultant with RegNet Environmental Services in Washington, DC, advising clients on a range of chemical and environmental issues. Prior to taking early retirement from Huntsman Corporation in 1991, Dr. Naylor was a research chemist for 32 years. He conducted research on many aspects of surfactant chemistry, manufacturing technology and application markets. Dr. Naylor has been involved with the Alkylphenols & Ethoxylates Research Council (APERC) and its predecessor organization, the APE Panel of the Chemical Manufacturers Association (CMA), now known as the American Chemistry Council (ACC), since 1987. His work with APERC includes conducting environmental research projects, presentations of research results at technical meetings and discussions with regulatory agencies in the US, Canada, and Europe. In addition to APERC, he was active with the Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate trade group of the Council for LAB/LAS Environmental Research (CLER) and the Soap and Detergent Association. Dr. Naylor is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Oil Chemists Society and the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. He has a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Caltech and a Ph.D. in organic Chemistry from the University of Colorado.

Dr. Narula is a Group Leader of ORNL's Functional Materials Group, in the Metals and Ceramics Division. He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Rajasthan University and his M.B.A. from the University of Michigan. Dr. Narula's past experience includes: Senior Research Scientist, Group Leader, Product Strategy, Materials Chemistry Group, Ford Research Lab / Visiting Scientist (chemistry) MIT, CalTech / Distinguished R&D staff ORNL. Dr. Narula is the recipient of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Fellowship, Council of Scientific, Industrial Research Fellowship, and University Grants Commission Fellowship. He is also a member of the American Chemical Society, American Ceramic Society, Materials Research Society, and Sigma XI. Dr. Narula was a key member of the team that introduced clear coat on aluminum wheels for Ford vehicles and has received the Ford Innovation Award every year since 1991. He was honored as "Lead Inventor" by Ford in 2003. He was also selected Industrial Fellow, ORNL in 1996. Dr. Narula has authored or co-authored 64 journal articles and one book. He also is listed on 29 US Patents.

Charles Schroeder has thirty-five years experience in formulating epoxies and urethanes for electrical and adhesive applications, thermoset polyesters for FRP laminating and electrical, and waterbourne coatings and adhesives. He has a BS in Chemistry, University of Missouri at Rolla. He is a member and past president of the Rocky Mountain Society of Coatings Technology and member of the American Chemical Society.

Charles started his career with Georgia Power in 1986, as a lab technician at one of the company's power plants. In 1991, he transferred into the environmental affairs department where his responsibilities included regulatory policy implementation and coordinating environmental risk assessments associated with new power plant siting efforts. In January 2002, Charles joined the team of Georgia Power project managers in economic development. Charles graduated from the University of West Florida with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and has earned a masters in business administration from Georgia State University. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Society of Plastics Engineers and serves on the boards of the Georgia Economic Developers Association, the "Keep South Fulton Beautiful" Campaign, and Savannah State University's School of Business Advisory Committee. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and golf.

Chris is a Portfolio Manager for the Fundamental Small Cap Core/Growth team and is responsible for managing the Micro Cap Core and Small Cap Core strategies. Chris also serves as an Equity Analyst for the Micro Cap Core, Small Cap Core, and Small Cap Growth strategies. Prior to joining OFI Institutional in 2006, Christopher held the position of Managing Director/Portfolio Manager at our affiliate, Babson Capital, since 2003. Previously, Chris was a Managing Director/Analyst at Commerce Capital Markets responsible for covering the specialty chemicals and materials sectors. He also was a Senior Research Analyst at Janney Montgomery Scott, LLC. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University and an M.B.A. from Villanova University . Chris is a member of the CFA Institute and the American Chemical Society.

Christy M. Upchurch, organic chemist at HML, Inc., holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry with a minor in computer science from Ball State University. Christy has been employed with HML, Inc. since October of 1997. Her experience includes organic extractions, high-pressure liquid chromatography, GC/ECD, GC/FID, and GC/MS. Her responsibilities at HML, Inc. include testing for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons using GC/FID, Polychlorinated Biphenyls using GC/ECD, Volatile Organic Compounds using GC/MS, and Synthetic Organic Compounds using HPLC methods.

As Director of Noblis? Energy and Environmental Sustainability Mission Area and with over 40 years of experience, Dr. Casagrande leads Noblis? client support in energy and environmental sustainment that includes environmental restoration and compliance, coal conversion, green consulting, carbon management, water resource management, and climate change adaptation. As part of these efforts, he leads a team of chemists, geologists, engineers, geochemists, hydrogeologists, toxicologists, and systems analysts who provide life-cycle acquisition, systems engineering, and quality assurance/quality control support. Dr. Casagrande is responsible for technical support to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Air Force General Counsel, various Directorates at the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment, Department of Defense National Energy Technology Laboratory, Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, Air Force Real Property Agency, Defense Logistics Agency, Army Environmental Command, various elements of the Army Base Realignment and Closure and Environmental Restoration Program, and the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program/ Environmental Security Technology Certification Program. Dr. Casagrande is located at a Noblis site in San Antonio, Texas and has program staff at Noblis in Fairview Park, Va; Sacramento; Denver; Seattle; Atlanta; Pinehurst, NC; and Savage, Minn. In 1971, Dr. Casagrande joined the staff at Governors State University where he taught environmental science and energy-related courses and directed graduate level research in energy and environmental science. In 1979, he joined the synthetic fuels program at EXXON-Mobil (Houston) and directed a research staff of 30 in coal and oil share exploration to maximize production of the highest quality coals by knowing the processes associated with the formation of coal. In addition, he directed research in solving a variety of environmental problems, including acid mine drainage prediction and resource quality evaluation (trace metal and sulfur distribution). In 1987, Dr. Casagrande joined MITRE Corporation as a technical staff member and then became part of the management team, transitioning to Mitretek Systems in 1996, and subsequently Noblis. Dr. Casagrande has over 75 technical papers and presentations and is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America, as well as a member of the American Chemical Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry in London, and the science societies of Sigma Xi and Phi Lambda Upsilon. He has received many professional honors including the American Chemical Society and Roscoe Colin Awards for Excellence in Chemistry, and is listed in Who?s Who in a number of national and international editionsDr. Casagrande received a Ph.D. in Geochemistry/Fuel Science from Pennsylvania State University (1970), a B.Sc. (Cum Laude) in Chemistry from the University of Scranton, and served a postdoctoral year at the University of Calgary.

David gained an academic interest in mechanisms of aging and began exploring the possibility of pharmacological intervention into the aging process in 1998. Animal models indicated R-lipoic acid (RLA) may normalize several age-related markers to those of youthful animals. RLA was commercially unavailable at that time, so he began to work out industrially feasible routes to produce RLA and stable-bioavailable dosage forms on a large scale, which evolved into GeroNova Research, Inc. David has played a key role in the introduction and development of R-Lipoic Acid, K-RALA, Na-RALA, Rala-Gel and R-DHLA for the nutraceutical industry. David's latest research is the development of entirely "green" and asymmetric processes for the industrial scale synthesis of RLA and R-DHLA, and the contribution of stereochemistry and the metabolites to the overall mechanisms of action of RLA/R-DHLA. He is continuously testing and developing novel dosage forms, evaluating the plasma pharmacokinetics of RLA and various nutritional supplements and identifying new biomarkers for quantitation and intervention into the aging process. GeroNova has compiled an extensive data base of English and foreign language lipoic acid articles and is actively translating foreign articles into English in order to facilitate future researchers. David is actively involved in numerous international collaborations involving the elucidation of the mechanisms of action of RLA, new product development and clinical trials. David was an invited speaker at the Oxygen Club of California (OCC) & the Lipoic Acid workshop in Santa Barbara, CA (March 12-15, 2008) where he discussed the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of RLA in humans, the role of stereochemistry in the mechanisms of action of lipoic acid and unsolved problems in lipoic acid research. David has spoken at the American College for the Advancement of Medicine, American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) and Smart Life Forum on the use of R-Lipoic Acid & R-Dihydrolipoic acid in nutrition and clinical practice. David is a member of The American Chemical Society, The California Academy of Sciences, The New York Academy of Sciences, and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.

David Elam founded Summa Consultants, Inc. after nearly 20 years in the technical consulting business. He has been active in all aspects of technical consulting for small and large firms. His experience includes project execution, project management, business development, quality systems, mergers and acquisitions, training, and consulting firm management. Before starting Summa, David was employed as a Vice President, Project Director, and Practice Leader for an Engineering News-Record (ENR) 25 Environmental Consulting and Engineering Firm. David is a Certified Industrial Hygienist, a Certified Quality Manager (CQM), member of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the American Society for Quality (ASQ), the Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA), and the Source Evaluation Society (SES).

Dr. Diana Fort holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Missouri - Columbia. Dr. Fort is a postdoctoral fellow and scientist at Shaman Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Fort has 20 years of experience in Natural Products research and in the development of pharmaceutical products from plants as antifungals, antivirals, and for the treatment of Diabetes. Dr. Fort has published 15 scientific papers and is the inventor of 10 patents. She is a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Society of Pharmacognosy.

Don Leach was born and raised in Englewood. After high school, he worked as a mill wright, assembler, plater, surveyor, technician and inspector. In 1965 Don began night school at Tramway Tech (CU Denver) graduating with a BSME in 1970. Don spent his entire career in engineering, construction, and process industries, employed by Bechtel, Gulf Oil, M.W. Kellogg, Gates Rubber Co., and others. He worked in engineering contracting for power plants (both fossil and nuclear), petrochemical plants, environmental remediation, research facilities, and operations. Don retired in 1996, but is trying not to retire his brain. He is a registered Professional Mechanical Engineer in California, a member of the American Chemical Society, and the International Society for Automation (formerly the Instrument Society of America). Don remains a wealth of knowledge, and in punishment for above egregious sins, he is now sentenced to collaborate with a number of cultural and human welfare non-profits, including the Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, the Colorado Symphony, the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado, the Lamont Society of Music, Vital Ground, St. Joseph's Indian School, the Colorado Chamber Players, the National Taxpayers Union, Englewood Arts, and last but certainly not least, Revision International.

Donald S. Mueller is Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer, USG Corporation. Dr. Mueller received a Bachelor's degree in chemistry from Hiram College and a PhD in chemistry from the University of Illinois. His previous assignment includes Vice President, Research and Technical Innovation, USG Corporation. He joined USG Corporation in 2005 as Vice President, Research and Development, USG Corporation. Prior to joining USG, Dr. Mueller was Director, Industry and State Relations for the Environmental Science Institute at The Ohio State University and Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Ashland Specialty Chemical Co. Dr. Mueller has also held senior level and technical positions at Rohm & Haas and Johnson & Johnson. Dr. Mueller has been active in several professional associations including the Council for Chemical Research, the American Chemical Society and the Industrial Research Institute, where he has served as Chairman and as a member of the Board of Directors.

Dr. Pearce has served as a member of our board of directors since June 2006. Dr. Pearce served in various capacities at Eli Lilly & Company since joining the company in 1979, including Vice President, Cancer Research and Clinical Investigation from 1994 to 2002 and Fellow, Cancer Research, Lilly Research Laboratories from 2002 to March 2006. Since August 2006, Dr. Pearce has served as a consultant to our company. He is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Chemical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He received a B.S. from Texas A&M University and his Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Dr. F. M. Ross Armbrecht, Jr. is Executive Director of the Delaware Foundation for Science and Mathematics Education. Dr. Armbrecht earned his B.S. in Chemistry from Duke University and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Joining DuPont as a Research Chemist, he later served in various technical and management positions, including Technical Manager for the Ethylene Copolymers Business, Laboratory Manager for Polymer Products Research, and Strategic Planning Consultant for the DuPont Experimental Station. After serving as Director of Technology for AlliedSignal's Polymer Additives business, he joined Witco Corporation in 1995, retiring from the role of Vice President, Technology and Chair of the Technology Leadership Team. From 2001 to 2005 he served as President of the Industrial Research Institute, Inc. (IRI) in Washington, DC. He is now an Emeritus Member of IRI and a member of the American Chemical Society. He serves on the Committee on Science, Engineering and Public Policy for the American Association for the Advancement of Science and chairs the Advisory Committee for the Advanced Technology Program at NIST.

Dr. Trumble has received advanced certification for Dietary Supplement Good Manufacturing Proactices in cooperation with the American Herbal Products Association, The Council for Responsible Nutrition, The National Nutrition Foods Association, and The Association of Food and Drug Officials. Dr. Trumble is a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Association of Biochemists and Molecular Biologists, which is a well-respected division of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.

Dr. Loomis has extensive experience in the development, commercialization and intellectual property aspects of advanced materials, products and processes for a variety of hi-tech industries, including chemical / pharmaceutical, biotechnology and electronics. He has particular expertise in applications of polymers for functional medical devices, drug delivery systems and matrices for tissue engineering. His experience in research, product development, manufacturing, technology assessment, and intellectual property spans more than 25 years. During a recent tenure at Provasis Therapeutics Inc., San Diego, CA he held dual positions as Chief Technology Officer and Director of Intellectual Property. He is a former Warner-Lambert R&D Director and he has held various positions in the Central Research & Development Department and the Plastic Products Department of E.I. DuPont de Nemours, Inc. He is a prolific inventor with twenty-six U.S. patents and numerous foreign patents issued to date. Dr. Loomis was also a nominee for the 2003 bioFUSION award. These awards are presented annually by T-Sector and BIOCOM / San Diego to outstanding members of the San Diego biotech/medical community.

Gary W. Beall, Ph.D. is currently a Professor of Chemistry at Texas State University at San Marcos and Director of The Center for Nanophase Research. Dr. Beall has more than 20 years experience in research, development, processing, and commercialization of products utilizing advanced nanomaterials. After receiving his BS in Chemistry from Tarleton State University in 1972 and his PhD in Physical Chemistry from Baylor University in 1975, he worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Radian Corp., Weston, Inc., United Catalysts, Inc., founded Technical Minerals, Inc., and Amcol Intl. inc. before co-founding and becoming Vice President of Nanocor, Inc. in 1995. He moved to academia in 1999 at Missouri Baptist College before accepting his current post at Texas State University in 2001. In 2000, Dr. Beall contributed to and co-edited the first book on polymer/nanoclay composites, which is now in its third printing. Dr. Beall is on the editorial board of the Journal of Applied Clay Science, Nanoexpress, and Nanotech Briefs. He has published more than 90 papers and holds 42 U.S. patents with three pending, of which 27 deal with nanotechnology. He is a member of the American Chemical Society.

Mr. White is the Technical Director for Progressive Laboratories and he has been instrumental in the development and production of over 200 nutritional supplements. Progressive Labs has been a champion of supplying supplements to the Professional Medical Market for thirty-two years.

Dr. George Vande Woude received his M.S. (1962) and Ph.D (1964) from Rutgers University. From 1964-1972, he served first as a postdoctoral research associate, then as a research virologist for the US Department of Agriculture at Plum Island Animal Disease Center. In 1972, he joined the National Cancer Institute as Head of the Human Tumor Studies and Virus Tumor Biochemistry Sections. In 1980, he was appointed Chief of the Laboratory of Molecular Oncology and, in 1983, he was selected to be Director of the Advanced Bioscience Laboratories-Basic Research Program at the National Cancer Institute s Frederick Center, a position he held until 1998. From 1995-1998, Dr. Vande Woude was Special Advisor to the Director of the National Cancer Institute and served to reorganize the intramural basic research at NCI. In 1999, he was selected to be the first Director of the newly created Van Andel Research Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dr. Vande Woude is the recipient of the National Institutes of Health Merit Award, the Robert J. and Claire Pasarow Foundation Award for Cancer Research, and a Lifetime Achievement Award in Technology Transfer from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. In 1993, he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences. He served on the Award Assembly of the General Motors Cancer Research Foundation (1990-1994) and serves on the scientific advisory boards of Columbia University Comprehensive Cancer Center (1986- ); Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (1990- ); Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University (1995- ); Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute, University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center (1999- ); University of Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Center (1999- ); W.M. He is the founder and President of the Foundation for Advanced Cancer Studies (1985- ), which sponsors annual meetings on Oncogenes and Cancer Genetics and Tumor Suppressor Genes that are designed to accommodate and encourage participation by young cancer research investigators. Dr. Vande Woude is the author of over 220 scientific research articles and over 60 articles in books or monographs. He has served as Editor of Journal of Virology and as an Editorial Board Member of Cell, Cancer Research, and Journal of Virology and is currently as an Editorial Board Member of Oncogene. Dr. Vande Woude was Founding Editor of Cell Growth and Differentiation and, since 1989, has been Co-editor (with George Klein) of Advances in Cancer Research 33 volumes.

Gregory M. Banik, Ph.D., joined the Informatics Division of Bio-Rad Laboratories as the Division General Manager in May, 1999. Dr. Banik conceived and launched the Bio-Rad's KnowItAll Informatics System, which has won numerous awards, including Frost & Sullivan's Drug Discovery Technology Market Leadership of the Year Award in 2005, Scientific Computing & Instrumentation magazine's Reader's Choice Award in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006 and back-to-back R&D 100 Awards from R&D magazine in 2004 and 2005. Dr. Banik joined Bio-Rad from Molecular Simulations Inc. (MSI, now Accelrys) in San Diego, where he was Director of Business Development. He joined MSI in January 1998 from UMI (now ProQuest) based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. At UMI, Dr. Banik was Director of Marketing and Product Management for UMI's Corporate and International Division. Prior to UMI, Dr. Banik was New Product Manager, Chemical Information Products, at Thomson Corporation's Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He began his professional career with Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, Illinois, where he was Scientific Information Manager, heading the cheminformatics group in the Pharmaceutical Products Division from 1990 to 1993. Dr. Banik earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1990 and was a Lecturer in the University's chemistry department that same year. He also received a Masters of Science in Chemistry from Northwestern and a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and Computer Studies from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. Since receiving his Ph.D., Dr. Banik was also enrolled in MBA programs at the University of Chicago and Temple University in Philadelphia.

Guido Kickelbick received his PhD degree in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Wurzburg in the field sol-gel derived surface-modified metal oxo clusters. In 1997 he was awarded an Erwin-Schrodinger post-doctoral fellowship with Krzysztof Matyjaszewski at the Center for Macromolecular Engineering at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (USA) where he worked on the application of controlled radical polymerization in the formation of hybrid materials. In 1998 he joint the Institute of Materials Chemistry at the Vienna University of Technology where he worked since then in the field of hybrid materials and nanocomposites as well as surface-functionalized nanoparticles with a particular focus on the combination of organic polymers with inorganic components. After finishing his Habilitation he was promoted to an associate professor in 2003. Guido Kickelbick has published one book and more than 150 scientific papers on different aspects of inorganic, polymer and materials chemistry. He is member of the Austrian, German and American Chemical Society, as well as the Materials Research Society and of course the International Sol-Gel Society. He is associate editor of the Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology as well as in the editorial boards of the Open Materials Science Journal and the Open Nanoscience Journal.

H. Everett Wilcox is the Vice President, Manufacturing and Business Development at Taxolog, Inc. Mr. Wilcox received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Missouri Kansas City in 1988, although he began his career six years earlier at Marion Laboratories in Kansas City. He moved throughout the technical areas of Marion and subsequently Marion Merrell Dow, Hoechst Marion Roussel and Aventis through mergers. Eventually Quintiles Transnational, a contract research organization, acquired the pharmaceutical development facility. During the early years at Marion, he gained experience with API manufacturing, chemical development, synthetic research and chemical scale-up of new chemical entities. Upon relocation of the synthesis group, he transferred to the drug development side of Marion Merrell Dow and spent the next few years in bioanalytical and analytical chemistry. He worked on projects involving methods development/validation, isolation and identification of impurities including new oncological agents. In 1996, Mr. Wilcox moved from the laboratory to the CMC regulatory group, where he gained invaluable experience in project management of the CMC sections for flavopyridol IND and CTX and global CMC coordination for the NDA. His experience in project management coupled with 18 years of diversified experience in synthesis and drug development earned him more responsibilities with large clients and project support. Mr. Wilcox ultimately held the position of Manager of Business Development and Project Planning with Quintiles. In October 2000, Mr. Wilcox joined the Taxolog, Inc., management team in Fairfield, New Jersey. With his guidance and direction, Mr. Wilcox's team conducts CMC activities such as analytical chemistry, contract manufacturing and CMC regulatory. During his tenure with Taxolog, Mr. Wilcox contributed to the CMC activities for Taxolog's first clinical oncology candidate and subsequent IND. Mr. Wilcox has won several awards and scholarships throughout his career. While at Marion Laboratories, he was recognized with the honorable Marion Laboratories Presidential Award for Achievement. He was awarded the Kauble Scholarship and the University of Missouri's Curors Scholarship in 1980. He is a member of the American Chemical Society.

Hal is currently Senior Officer for Knowledge and Creative Applications, Center for Innovation, Irving, Texas. He was Vice President Technology Quaker State Corporation, Irving, Texas from June 1997 through March 1999. Hal held the same position with Petrolon Technologies Division of Slick 50 Corporation, Houston, Texas from November 1993 through May 1997. During the previous 28+ years, he was a research and development scientist with Exxon Research and Engineering and with Exxon Chemical Paramins in New Jersey. He has been directly involved with the design and development of passenger car motor oils, synthetic ester jet engine lubricants and with lubricant and fuel engine treatments. He is author and co-author of several technical papers and several U.S. (30) and foreign patents, and in 1990 received the "Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award" from the Research and Development Council of New Jersey in recognition of a 1978 patent dealing with the first oil soluble fuel economy chemistry for motor oils. In 1995, he received the ASTM Award of Merit for his contributions to Standards Development in the area of low temperature oil flow in engines. He has served as Chairman of ASTM D-2 Section 7C on low temperature oil flow since the early 1980s and is currently Vice Chairman of Subcommittee 7 on Rheology in ASTM Committee D2 and is a member of the Passenger Car Engine Oil Classification Panel and the ASTM D-02 executive subcommittee. He is also an active member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, serving on the Engine Oil Viscosity Classification Task Force and is a member of STLE and the American Chemical Society. Hal holds a B.S. degree from the University of Rochester and M.S. and Ph.D. Degrees from Carnegie Mellon University, all in the field of chemistry.

Iwao Ojima, BS, MS, PhD is Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Director, Institute of Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery, SUNY-Stony Brook. He is an internationally recognized expert in medicinal chemistry, including anticancer agents and enzyme inhibitors, development of efficient synthetic methods for organic synthesis by means of organometallic reagents, homogeneous catalysis and organometallic chemistry, peptide and peptide mimetics, beta-lactam chemistry, and organoflourine chemistry at the biomedical interface. Dr. Ojima is a recipient of the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award (1994) and the E. B. Hershberg Award (for important discovery of medicinally active substances) (2001) from the American Chemical Society; The Chemical Society of Japan Award (for distinguished achievements) (1999); Outstanding Inventor Award from the Research Foundation of the State University of New York (2002. He was inducted into the American Chemical Society Medicinal Chemistry Hall of Fame (2006). He is a Fellow of the J.S. Guggenheim Memorial Foundation (1995- ), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (1997- ), and The New York Academy of Sciences (2000- ). Dr. Ojima is a member of the American Chemical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Association for Cancer Research, American Peptide Society, the Chemical Society of Japan, the Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan, New York Academy of Sciences, and Signa Xi. He has served as a consultant for E. I. du Pont, Eli Lilly, Air Products & Chemicals, Mitsubishi Chem. Inc., Nippon Steel Corp., Life Science Division, Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, ImmunoGen, Inc., Taiho Pharmaceutical Co., Milliken & Co., Aventis Pharma, OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Mitsubishi Chem. Corp. J. Zach Hilt is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Kentucky. Prof. Hilt received his bachelor degrees in Chemistry and Physics from Miami University (Ohio). He completed his Masters degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University and his Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Prof. Hilt's research laboratory focuses on the design of novel hydrogel biomaterials, the development of novel methods to synthesize and characterize the hydrogels at the micro- or nanoscale, and the application of these materials as biomedical devices or functional components of biomedical devices. Prof. Hilt has authored numerous referred publications, including a recent review "Hydrogels in Biology and Medicine: From Molecular Principles to Bionanotechnology" published in Advanced Materials. He is co-editor of "Nanotechnology in Therapeutics: Current Technology and Applications" which is published by Horizon Scientific Press and is one of the first books dedicated to the topic of nanotechnology in drug delivery. Prof. Hilt was an invited participant in the 2008 German-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposium (GAFOE), which was co-organized by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He is a member of the Materials Research Society, American Institute for Chemical Engineers, Society for Biomaterials, American Chemical Society, and the Controlled Release Society. He has taken an active role in these professional societies, including co-organizing the Bionanotechnology Topical Conference at the Annual AIChE Meeting for the past few years.

Mr. Jasperse is a registered civil engineer and has been with the Agency since 1998. Prior to joining the Agency, he worked as an environmental engineering consultant specializing in groundwater characterization and design of remediation systems. Mr. Jasperse received a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from the University of California at Davis and master's degree in civil engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. Mr. Jasperse is an active member of the National Groundwater Association and the American Chemical Society.

Dr. James M. Turner leads NOAA's international scientific and environmental efforts associated with the global oceans, atmosphere, and space. He serves as the principal advisor to the Under Secretary and Administrator on international policy issues, represents NOAA and the United States with foreign governments and international fora, establishes policies, guidelines, and procedures for NOAA's international programs, and provides support and coordination to NOAA's lines offices. These efforts help us to better understand, predict, and take steps to respond to changes in the Earth's environment, conserve and manage coastal and marine resources, protect life and property, and to provide decision makers with reliable scientific information. Dr. Turner comes to NOAA from the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology where he served as the Acting Director (September 2007 to September 2008) and Deputy Director (from April to September 2007). NIST promotes U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology. Prior to joining NIST, Dr. Turner served as the Assistant Deputy Administrator for Nuclear Risk Reduction in the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration. In that position he was responsible for major projects in Russia to permanently shut down their last three weapons-grade plutonium-production reactors. He also worked with foreign governments and international agencies to reduce the consequences of nuclear accidents by strengthening their capability to respond to nuclear emergencies. Turner also has held several senior management posts at DOE concerned with laboratory oversight and with nuclear safety and the safeguarding of nuclear weapons both here and abroad. He holds degrees in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Ph.D.) and Johns Hopkins University (B.A.), and taught for five years as an Associate Professor of Physics and Engineering at Morehouse College. Among other honors, he has received the U.S. Government Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Service, three times received the U.S. Department of Energy Exceptional Service Award, and earned the Secretary of Energy Gold Award and the National Nuclear Security Administration's Gold Medal. Dr. Turner is an active member of the American Physical Society, the American Chemical Society, the American Nuclear Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, ASTM, the Council on Foreign Relations, IEEE, Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, and the World Affairs Council. Dr. Turner is a native of Washington, D.C., is married, and has five children and one grandchild. He enjoys doing yoga and Tai Chi. He and his wife, Paulette, reside in Olney, Md.
