Chet has played an active role in the air quality portion of the environmental industry for over 30 years. As the Chief Executive Officer for a wind-tunnel testing company, he formulated many of the procedures still being used today. Applying his experience and expertise in meteorology, engineering physics, and mathematics to physical modeling using scale models in a boundary-layer wind tunnel, he has personally managed or directed many wind tunnel studies including those profiled in our Portfolio page. In addition to wind tunnel studies, Chet has personally managed a number of large scientific projects including a $1.2 million field project for the Baton Rouge Ozone Task Force to study the formation of ozone in the Baton Rouge vicinity. This project was touted by users of its data as "producing the most useful data per dollar of any project of its kind." Chet coauthored an EPA-recommended protocol for the use of environmental wind tunnel studies to determine plume downwash characteristics for input to EPA's own regulatory dispersion models. He also directed the development of a modular system of computer programs which allowed predictable, cost-effective analysis of complex meteorological data and was the basis for winning a number of federal government projects. He has been a speaker for the Labs for the 21st Century and other professional organizations on such topics as Commissioning of Laboratory Exhaust Systems, and the use of the Wind Tunnel for Campus Design. His educational background includes an MBA in Management Strategy and Policy/Marketing from UCLA, an MS in Meteorology from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and a BS in Engineering Physics from UC Berkeley. He is an active member of several professional organizations including ASHRAE, Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA), AMS (American Meteorological Society) and others.

Josh joined the Newswatch 4 team in June of 2004 as the morning and noon meteorologist and was promoted to Chief Meteorologist in May of 2006. At the time, Josh was the youngest Chief Meteorologist in the country. Before coming to WOAY-TV, Josh worked behind the scenes in weather at WOWK-TV in Huntington, WV. While attending Mississippi State University, he studied broadcast meteorology and geography. Josh loves forecasting in Appalachia. It's a challenge everyday, he says. His favorite season is winter and favorite type of storm is winter storms. Josh's expertise in meteorology is forecasting winter and severe weather. Like most meteorologists, Josh can trace his interest in weather back to childhood. It was the great blizzard of 1993 that sparked his interest. Josh was born in Kentucky but grew up in the Gallipolis, Ohio area. A small town on the Ohio River. He enjoys fishing, gardening and winter sports. Josh also enjoys meeting the great people of West Virginia and Virginia, visiting schools and teaching children the fascinating science of weather. Teachers, give him a call if you would like to schedule a visit from Josh to your classroom. Josh is an active member of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association.
Lawrence Karnow is the weekend weather anchor for CBS 5 Eyewitness News. Prior to joining CBS 5 in July 1997, Karnow served as the morning weather forecaster at KSBW-TV in Salinas, the city where he grew up. Meteorologist Cari Peugeot was born in Paducah, Kentucky. She became a Hoosier at 11, when her family moved to Fort Wayne. She is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Cari graduated with a degree in Geography/Meteorology and a minor in Telecommunications. She is a member of the American Meteorological Society. Originally Cari was interested in climatology, but she found her niche in forecasting and television instead. After graduating, she worked at WPBN/WTOM-TV in Traverse City, Michigan, where she was the weekend meteorologist. "I learned right off the bat about the crazy phenomenon of lake effect snow. Being surrounded by the Great Lakes, anytime the wind blows we got snow up there. It's known as one of the hardest areas to forecast." Cari moved to South Bend to be closer to family and friends. She comes from a Big Ten family and spends much of the fall and winter watching Big Ten football and basketball. Her brother is a Purdue graduate and her sister is currently at Ohio State, which makes for some interesting rivalries.
In the Fall of 1986, Carl kicked off a community service project called Carl's Coats for Kids, which is designed to provide warm coats for needy children throughout the Miami Valley and has provided over 300,000 coats to those in need. Carl came to WDTN-TV in November, 1977 from WYTV in Youngstown, Ohio where he was chief meteorologist. Prior to that, he worked for the Central Weather Service in Chicago. He has also worked as chief meteorologist at WLKY TV in Louisville, Kentucky. He began his career at WTVT TV in Tampa, Florida. Nichols, who was born in Tampa, Florida, graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Navy School of Meteorology at Lake Hurst, New Jersey. Carl is a member of the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society. In 1999, Carl Nichols received the Board of Governor's Award from the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences, which is its highest honor for lifetime achievement. The Ohio Associated Press Board also awarded Nichols the special honor of "Best Regularly Scheduled Weathercaster," an award he won again in 2002 and 2004.

Katie Horner joined KCTV5 in 1994, and her dedication to forecasting and serving the public continues to grow. In 1995, she was certified as a meteorologist, and in 1996, she received the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society. She became KCTV5's chief meteorologist in 1998, and today she serves on the American Meteorological Society's board of directors. Katie is well-known in Kansas City for her tireless, non-stop severe weather coverage. She persevered through a relentless, live 15-hour severe weather broadcast in March 2006, reporting on at least 12 tornadoes that hit within KCTV5's coverage area. But it hasn't been all serious weather coverage for Katie. While on the air, she has enjoyed flying with the Blue Angels, the Red Baron and on the Goodyear Blimp. She's also enjoyed skydiving, hot air ballooning, being the first person to ride Worlds of Fun's Detonator and swimming in a shark tank. The most amazing thing she feels she has ever done as an on-air personality was organizing thousands of people to make a human flag after 9/11. Katie was born in Nelsonville, Ohio. Actress Sarah Jessica Parker was born the same year and in the same hospital as Katie. In fact, Mrs. Parker, Sarah's mom, taught Katie's sister in elementary school.
Kelly Cass is an on-camera meteorologist at The Weather Channel . She first appeared on air at The Weather Channel in January 2000. Before joining The Weather Channel, she had been the morning weekday meteorologist at WRGB-TV, the CBS affiliate in Schenectady, NY, a position she held for seven years. While working at WRGB, she was awarded the New York State Broadcasting Award for "best storm coverage" during the blizzard of '93. Among the special reports presented by Cass for The Weather Channel was a feature about being selected for a flight in an F-A 18 jet of the "Blue Angels" unit of the U. S. Navy. A native of Poughkeepsie, she has a special interest in lake effect snow. She also is fascinated by all extreme weather including tropical storms. "I have always been fascinated by weather (beginning) as a child. While in college, I decided to focus on TV journalism and study meteorology as well. Weather is something we all experience and talk about, so I decided TV weather was for me," Cass said. She began her career as associate producer, and later, weeknight weather weathercaster at WTZA-TV (now WRNN), an independent station in Kingston, NY. Cass earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Adelphi University. She also holds a certificate of international study from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. She holds the Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association, a broadcast meteorologist certificate from Mississippi State University, and is a full member of the American Meteorological Society. When not watching the snow fall, Cass is active in many sports, including soccer, softball and tennis. While in Korea, she studied tae kwon do, achieving her red belt. She and her husband have three young children.

The CBM Seal is the highest designation awarded by the American Meteorological Society "The Society's Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation clearly recognizes that the holders have the educational background and have been tested in their knowledge and communication of the sciences needed to be an effective broadcast meteorologist," said AMS Executive Director Keith Seitter. "The general public can have added confidence in the quality and reliability of weather presentations made by broadcast meteorologists approved by the Society." Being a meteorologist was a childhood dream for Leo. In 1978, he experienced the "Storm of the Century" at the early age of five. Its blistering winds and blanketing snow invoked his everlasting passion for the weather, which he enthusiastically shares with children today through his frequent visits to various local schools. During his free time he loves watching and playing Ice Hockey, and you can always check the roads to see if he's cruising around the area on his rollerblades. Leo, his wife, Karen and their Rat Terrier, Chinook reside in Roanoke County. All content Copyright 2004 - 2007 WorldNow and WDBJ7. All Rights Reserved.
Luke joined the Weatherwatch 12 Storm Team as Chief Meteorologist in May of 2006. Luke is also a full member of the American Meteorological Society. Raised in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, Luke has learned to become very familiar with the variable Wisconsin weather we often experience. "Forecasting the weather in a place like Wisconsin makes my job very challenging and usually there is something new to consider in every forecast." After high school, it was off to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where Luke received a B.S. in Atmospheric Science in 2004. It was during his junior year in college when Luke called up WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee and inquired about working behind the scenes as a weather intern that's when Luke discovered that perhaps this is the career he wanted to pursue. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree, Luke went on to earn his Master's degree in Atmospheric Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He completed a thesis with a research focus of improving winter weather precipitation forecasts. "Writing a thesis was the most demanding and strenuous accomplishment I have ever undertaken and I am so relieved I made it through." After 7 years of school and 4 years of helping out behind the scenes at WTMJ, Luke decided to try the "other" side of the camera.

As a native of East Bridgewater, Mark Margarit is excited to return back to the Boston area. Mark rejoins WHDH from WRGB, the CBS affiliate in Albany, NY, where he was the weekend meteorologist. Prior to that, Mark worked behind the scenes at WHDH for three years as a Weather Producer, helping design and create graphics for the Channel 7 weather team. Mark received his Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science with a minor in Broadcast Meteorology from SUNY Albany, graduating magna cum laude in 2004. Also while in college, Mark interned at WXXA-FOX in Albany. Mark is also a current member of the American Meteorological Society. Mark has been interested in the weather since he was a young child, and often would spend hours watching the Weather Channel. Mark realized his love for TV during high school, where he was an anchor for the school's news program during his senior year. Combining the two fields, along with his love for geography, made becoming a Broadcast Meteorologist seem like the perfect career path. Born and raised south of Boston in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Mark grew up with Nor'easters, blizzards, Hurricanes Bob and Gloria, and severe thunderstorms, not to mention his older brother and sister. Mark is happy to continue forecasting the wide-ranging, and often challenging, weather patterns of New England.

Michael Schlacter is a principal meteorologist at EWI. He is also founder and Chief Meteorologist of Weather 2000, a New York City consulting firm. He is responsible for the oversight of all forecasting and consulting services provided to their Energy, Agriculture, Finance, Insurance and Retail clientele. As the primary media liaison, he has been interviewed as a weather expert in the Wall Street Journal, New York Daily News, CNN, CNNfn, Futures Magazine, and many other publications. Formerly, Mr. Schlacter has also worked as a radio and television broadcast meteorologist. He earned a BS in Atmospheric Sciences from Cornell University, and is a member of the American Meteorological Society.
A native of Texas, NBC 6 WeatherPlus Meteorologist Mike Griffin embraces the swelter of Central Texas summers and can tackle the wrath of "Blue Northerners" of the Southern Plains in the winter. Mike is glad to be back in Texas and closer to home after a few years tracking Hurricanes along the Louisiana coast. In the year 2005, Mike had to face the huge challenge of tracking Hurricanes Katrina and Rita back to back hitting the state. Hurricane Rita, a powerful category 3 storm, hit Mike's area of Southwest Louisiana where he was working at KPLC-TV in Lake Charles. It slammed ashore with the force of winds up to 120 miles per hour. It was Mike's first encounter with such a massive and devastating storm but an experience which he will never forget. Mike was inspired to pursue a career in weather early in life, when a tornado charged through his Dallas, TX neighborhood in 1985. This led him to study Meteorology for fifteen years starting at an early age. He not only enjoys the science of forecasting, but also capturing weather on camera. He earned his bachelor's degree in Meteorology from Texas A&M University. He has learned his weather techniques from such weather icons such as Rebecca Miller, the Morning Meteorologist at KXAS NBC 5 in Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX. He worked with her for a semester on developing on-camera skills. He also worked along side Chief Meteorologist Bob French at KBTX in Bryan/College Station, TX for a year. He was also on the storm chasing team at Texas A&M, which he chased several tornadoes across our area of Tornado Alley. He witnessed first hand the flooding from Tropical Storm Allison in Houston, TX during June 2001. He was in Tropical Storm Faye when it hit the upper Texas coast around Galveston, TX. Mike likes to swim, camp, play tennis, and anything outdoors. He adopted a cat named "Stormy" from the Humane Society. When he is not chasing storms or hurricanes, he usually likes to go traveling. Mike is a member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. He holds the NWA Television Weathercaster Seal of Approval, given to broadcast meteorologists who have shown competency and on-air performance skills that are above standards. He is currently working on acquiring his AMS Seal of Approval. You can catch his forecast on the weekends. If you have a weather question or if you have any other comments for Mike, you can email him at mgriffin@kcentv.com mgriffin@kcentv.com .
Mike has been recognized with nine regional Emmy Awards in New England and one in Washington, D.C. He has contributed to weather reports for the Boston Herald and the Community Newspaper Company and authors a weekly weather column for BostonNow. Mike has also been heard on local airwaves (WBUR, WXKS-FM, WZLX-FM, WBCN-FM) providing forecasts and discussing weather and science. Prior to moving to Boston, Mike was chief meteorologist at WTVR-TV, Richmond, Va. He also served as chief meteorologist at KTIV-TV, Sioux City, Iowa. Mike has served as Chairman of the Chernobyl Children Project USA and is still an active board member. He assists orphanages and children's hospitals in the contaminated regions with basic necessities. He has worked with Boston area hospitals coordinating nearly $5 million worth of treatment for children from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. Mike has traveled extensively in the Chernobyl region. He is also actively involved in various local charitable organizations and a frequent speaker in area schools. A graduate of Briar Cliff University, Mike is a member of the American Meteorological Society and has his AMS Seal of Approval. In February 2007, Mike earned the CBM designation, only the second meteorologist in the Boston market to do so. Mike's family originally arrived in Boston from Ireland on July 11, 1847. As Irish imigrants they headed west in search of farmland. The family homesteaded in Minnesota, then South Dakota and eventually Iowa, where Mike was raised on a farm. He now resides on the South Shore where he enjoys sailing. A lifelong motorcycle rider, he can still be seen occasionally racing motorcyles at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, in Loudon, N.H. He is married with three children.

Meteorologist Travis Herzog joined KTRK-TV in July of 2006. Previously, he worked as the morning meteorologist just up the road in Bryan, Texas at KBTX-TV, where the Texas Associated Press twice recognized him as one of the top broadcast meteorologists in the state. From hurricanes and tornadoes to ice storms and floods, Travis has covered just about every kind of weather element experienced in southeast Texas. He aims to present the public with weather forecasts that are informative, educational, and fun. When severe weather strikes, you can trust Travis to provide you with timely weather updates and potentially life-saving information. You can watch his live weather broadcasts Monday through Friday on Eyewitness News at 11am and Eyewitness News at 4pm. Travis is no stranger to Texas weather because he's lived here all his life. In fact, he received his calling to be a meteorologist when Hurricane Gilbert spawned a tornado that passed by his childhood home in San Antonio, Texas. In the aftermath, he developed a deep passion and profound respect for the atmosphere by reading every weather book he could find, prompting his classmates to label him "the weatherman," which he preferred over "school boy." Raised to be a Longhorn, Travis eventually received the blessing of his parents to pursue his love for weather at Texas A&M University. In Aggieland he met his wonderful wife, Erin, a Sugar Land native, and he determined that he wanted to be a broadcast meteorologist. Choosing a career that paid him to forecast and talk about the weather seemed to be a no-brainer, even if it meant enduring corny weatherman jokes for the rest of his life. Travis graduated with a B.S. in Meteorology and a perfect 4.0 GPR. He earned numerous awards and honors along the way, most notably the prestigious Brown-Rudder Outstanding Student Award, given to an individual that embodies the character, morals, and integrity of former Texas A&M University President Earl Rudder. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society, the National Weather Association, Phi Beta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi. Travis enjoys marriage, Bible study, racquetball, Sudoku, and cold fronts. With a huge heart for children, he also enjoys entertaining students with weather talks at local schools. If you would like to invite Travis to speak at your school or host an event, send him an email at travis.herzog@abc.com.

After graduating from North Tonawanda High School, he attended the University of Buffalo and went on to SUNY Oswego, where he earned a BS in Meteorology. While at Oswego, he studied Lake Effect Snow patterns in detail. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society and holds the AMS Broadcasting Seal of Approval. After gaining broadcast experience in Macon, GA and Fort Myers, FL, he was glad to trade the intense Florida heat and too many Dolphins fans for a return to Buffalo. A huge Bills and Sabres fan, he flew back to Buffalo just for Game 3 of the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals. Aaron and his wife, 7 News reporter Sharon Osorio, are glad to be back in Buffalo.

Prior to KCTV5, Amanda worked as an anchor/meteorologist for WOLV-TV at the University of Michigan for its 10 p.m. newscasts, and she held an internship at WDIV in Detroit. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2006 with a degree in atmospheric and space sciences, concentrating in meteorology. As the weather producer, Amanda helps prepare the forecast and graphics for the newscasts, as well as keeping the behind-the-scenes aspects of the weather center running smoothly. It is also important during severe weather, as having a fifth meteorologist means the Storm Track 5 Weather Team has the most meteorologists of any Kansas City television station working to keep you safe when the weather gets dangerous. Amanda has been storm chasing in the Plains with the University of Michigan and Texas Tech, and she is always keeping up on the latest research to help give you the earliest warning possible when tracking severe weather. Amanda was born and raised in the Detroit area and is a big fan of anything Detroit sports -- Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons and even sometimes the Lions. She is also a huge University of Michigan sports fan and loves attending Michigan football games at the Big House with 107,500 of her closest friends. Amanda is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. She also serves as a national officer for Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity. Outside the weather center, Amanda enjoys dancing, watching and playing sports -- especially football and baseball -- and photography. She lives in Merriam, Kan.

Brett has been involved in several storm chases through Mississippi and the Great Plains and has seen several tornadoes over the years. But his mind has been made up since childhood that he wanted to make weather his career. "I had always watched local weather with my parents," he says. "At the age of eight, it just hit me that this was what I wanted to do with my life. Severe weather was the hook and line, but the F4 tornado in Glade, Mississippi, 20 miles from my house was the sinker." Brett is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. He has recently received the highly touted American Meteorological Society's Seal of Approval for his weathercasts. Brett has also been awarded an Arkansas Associated Press award for best weathercast two years in a row, first place in 2001 and second place in 2002. When he's not busy in the KARK Weather Center, he enjoys taking in the local sights and sounds of Little Rock and spending time in the gorgeous Arkansas outdoors.

Don Noe is the Chief Meteorologist at Local 10, a position that he has held for 27 years. His weather reports can be seen Monday though Friday at 6 and 11 p.m. At the age of 10, Don was first intrigued by nature's fury while watching a fierce thunderstorm tear up a large tree in his backyard. The next day, he gathered up all the books on weather he could find at the local public library, bought a thermometer with his allowance and set off in a career direction that would take him far from his hometown of Fond du Lac, WI, all the way to Local 10 News. His first job out of college was forecasting weather for Great Lakes Weather Inc. located in Green Bay, Wis. For three years Don provided radio stations, ski resorts, power companies and snow removal crews the forecast for local weather while working weekends for television station, WFRV-TV. In 1978, Don moved to Portland, OR, where he did the nightly weather on KGW-TV. In June 1979, Don got a shot at working in a climate that he often reported about but could only envy from afar -- the subtropics of South Florida. Don is a member of the American Meteorological Society and has earned the Seal of Approval for Professionalism. He has also been presented with numerous awards from Miami-Dade and Broward schools that recognize the hundreds of personal appearances he has made. Don says his proudest career achievement was being named "Media Person Of The Year" by the Professional Organization of Teachers in Miami-Dade County. Don enjoys sharing his passion for science and weather with children. He hopes that perhaps there is another 10-year-old out there that might be inspired to buy his or her own thermometer and plunge into the world of science. Don says the greatest satisfaction he gets from his job is communicating to the viewers a complete and accurate forecast. Predicting weather takes both skill and knowledge, and an accurate forecast is a crucial element of success for a meteorologist -- but nobody's perfect. Don says his most embarrassing moment as a television meteorologist came when he was doing the weather in Green Bay, Wis. He missed a forecast and for punishment, he did the following forecast standing on his head. Don has also made special guest appearances on Good Morning America and The Hollywood Squares. He has been featured in "People" and "Miami" magazines. When Don is not doing his weather reports, he is at home with his wife of nearly 34 years in their South Miami-Dade home. Don also has two grown children, enjoys boating, fishing and diving in the Keys. He has spent nearly 40 years collecting 1950's memorabilia such as old jukeboxes and Coke collectables. Don also likes stepping out for a meal at Tugboat's in Key Largo. Don is fond of books by Tom Clancy and his favorite movies are "Forbidden Planet," "The Terminator" and "The African Queen." Don graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1973, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. You can e-mail Don here %20weather@local10.com .

Meteorologist Ron Smiley first joined the WDSU Weather Team in May of 2006. You can watch him forecast the weather on weekend mornings and Wednesday through Friday at midday. Ron said he feels he was destined to become a television weatherman. "I had one neighbor to my right who worked at the Little Rock National Weather Service. Right across the street I had another neighbor who had retired from anchoring the news in Little Rock. I was always over their homes picking their brains and I was just hooked, fascinated with both of their worlds." A native Texan, Ron grew up in and considers Little Rock, Ark., home. After graduating from high school he headed down Interstate 40 to Arkansas Tech University. That's also where he met Michelle, his wife of seven years. After graduating he moved to Greenville, Miss. to take his first on air job. 'Greenville was a lot different from anything I had experienced before. As soon as I saw the world famous brown faucet water I knew I was in a different world. The great thing though is Greenville was the perfect training ground for me.' He also worked on the nation's highest-rated 10 p.m. newscast at KAIT in Jonesboro, Ark. Ron is a member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. When he's not predicting the weather, Ron enjoys spending time with his wife and 'T-Rex' his black lab.
Samantha Davies joined WSIL-TV in July 2005 as the Morning Meteorologist. Originally from Rochester NY, Samantha earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Meteorology from the State University of New York College at Oneonta. Prior to joining the WSIL-TV morning team she was the evening meteorologist for WKAG-TV in Hopkinsville, KY. Samantha has had a passion for weather since her childhood in Western New York where lake effect snow would make winter exciting. While vacationing with her family in 1992, Samantha was part of the evacuation in southern Florida during hurricane Andrew (one of the most damaging hurricanes in history). The hurricane experience only heightened her interest in the science of meteorology. While attending the State University of New York, Samantha interned at WHEC-TV and WHAM-TV in Rochester, NY. She is a member of the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society. In her free time, Samanta enjoys spending time outdoors, reading, playing tennis, listening to music and attending concerts. Samantha's love of music also includes playing the flute.

Tom says one of the highlights of his basketball days was getting a chance to compete against "Magic" Johnson. Tom went on to receive his Master's Degree in Meteorology from the University of Nebraska and has been a weather broadcaster for nearly 15 years. He is also a member of the American Meteorological Society, a recognition by his peers of his achievement in the forecasting and communication of complicated scientific information. Tom is originally from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, which could help explain his true love of winter and cold weather. If there's snow, you'll find Tom out snowmobiling. If there isn't snow, Tom will probably be out on the nearest golf course.
