Lawrence R. Cohan, a Shareholder of Anapol Schwartz, chairs the firm's Toxic Tort Litigation Department and serves as Managing Partner and Senior Trial Counsel for our Cherry Hill, New Jersey office. He is a New Jersey Certified Civil Trial Attorney and Certified Trial Advocate with the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Cohan concentrates his practice in toxic torts including asbestos, chemicals and other dangerous productsd; pharmaceutical liability; vaccine related injuries; medical malpractice; products liability; FELA; and complex personal injury matters. Serving in leading roles in many complex cases, Mr. Cohan has forged new law in both the trial and appellate court levels in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Washington, D.C. He has served as Plaintiff's Liaison Counsel in lead paint, asbestos and lymerix vaccine litigation. He served as lead counsel in the first and only lead poisoning case filed in Pennsylvania against the lead pigment industry, pursuing the novel "market share" theory of liability all the way to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He also obtained the first plaintiff's verdict in an asbestos case in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with the first verdict of its kind against asbestos "friction" product defendants, GE, GTE and Eaton Cutler-Hammer Corporation. Mr. Cohan has obtained million dollar jury verdicts in toxic tort and medical malpractice cases in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He also represents victims suffering from adverse reactions to vaccines before the United States Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., as part of the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. On a regular basis, Mr. Cohan writes and lectures about toxic torts, pharmaceutical, asbestos, vaccine, lead and medical malpractice litigation, doing so on both local and national levels. He has lectured for many bar associations and trial lawyer associations, frequently serving as Chair of these conferences. A member of the Environmental Law Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Mr. Cohan has served in various bar association positions. He is a member of the American, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations, as well as the American, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Associations. He is presently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association. He has also lobbied on behalf of children injured by lead poisoning with the Pennsylvania legislature. In 1976, Mr. Cohan earned his Bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, from Boston University. He received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1979, where he served for two years as President of the Law School Environmental Law Group. He also completed an internship with the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, he served in a two-year judicial clerkship with the Philadelphia County Trial Court's Honorable Harry A. Takiff, who founded the asbestos litigation mass tort program. Mr. Cohan is the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Jewish Community Centers (JCC) of Greater Philadelphia and past President of the Kaiserman Jewish Community Center. He is a member of the Board and Executive Board of the Jewish Foundation of Greater Philadelphia. The JCCs serve more than 40,000 individuals throughout the Philadelphia area. He is actively involved in many areas of community and public service, as well as a member of the Board of the Riverbend Environmental Association.

Bernard W. Smalley, Sr., a Shareholder at Anapol Schwartz, is known for his personable style, which allows him to represent his clients effectively, and in a spirit of cooperation. Trial judges and jurors also acknowledge the high quality of Mr. Smalley's cross-examination and his ability to persuade jurors during closing arguments. He received his Bachelor's degree from Temple University in 1971, and his law degree from Widener University School of Law in 1980. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Smalley was the Deputy Court Administrator for Civil Administration for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania. Mr. Smalley has served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and currently sits on its Board of Governors. He has also served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Smalley is the first African-American ever elected to serve as President of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association. He frequently lectures on trial techniques before national, state and local trial lawyer and bar associations. In 2002, Mr. Smalley was awarded the Trailblazer Award by the Minority Caucus of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Also in 2002, the American Bar Association Tort and Insurance Practice Section awarded Mr. Smalley their annual Pursuit of Justice Award, and he was later cited in 2002 by the Legal Intelligencer as one of the 50 most influential minority attorneys in Philadelphia. Mr. Smalley was recently elected by the Judges of the Philadelphia Court of Common Please to a lifetime appointment to the Philadelphia Board of City Trust, which oversees approximately three-quarters of a billion dollars in assets. In 2003, Mr. Smalley was inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers as a Fellow. United States membership to the International Academy is limited to 500 members. In 2004, Mr. Smalley became a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers after a strenuous examination process. Membership in this organization is limited to the top 5% of active trial lawyers in the United States.

Nathaniel E.P. Ehrlich, a member of Anapol Schwartz, is proof that an attorney can be nice and still be a strong and skillful advocate for his clients. In Mr. Ehrlich's cases, he deals many injured individuals and with injured athletes and workers, and is able to do so during very difficult financial and emotional periods. He concentrates his practice in labor law, in particular, the representation of professional athletes, sports litigation and sports workers' compensation. His personal injury practice includes workers' compensation, disability, cases arising from dangerous products and construction site accidents, nursing home neglect, dangerous conditions on properties, automobile and truck accidents, medical and dental malpractice, and alcohol-related accidents. He also served as Law Clerk for the Honorable Alex Bonavitacola, President Judge in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas from 1998-2000. In the community, he volunteers as a Youth Aid Panel Member and for town watch in North Hills (6-2). In August, 2006 he was appointed by the Abington Township Board of Commissioners to the Abington Industrial Development Authority and also holds the position of Vice Chair of the Abington-Rockledge Democratic Committee. Sol H. Weiss, a Shareholder of Anapol Schwartz, is an experienced trial attorney known for his exacting preparation and attention to detail.
