Mike Splinter has been president and chief executive officer of Applied Materials since 2003 and chairman of the board of directors since 2009.
Splinter is a 30-year veteran of the semiconductor industry and has led Applied Materials to record revenue and profits during his tenure. Under his leadership, the company is helping drive global adoption of solar power by enabling a true inflection point in the cost-per-watt of solar energy.
Splinter serves on a number of influential business and industry boards, and is currently chairman of the Technology CEO Council (http://www.techceocouncil.org),
a group of high-tech CEOs who are helping drive public policies to bolster U.S. competitiveness. He serves on the board of Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), the board of NASDAQ OMX Group Inc., the board of trustees for Santa Clara University and the board of directors for the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, an organization of California CEOs focused on housing, transportation, and the environment. He is also a member of the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy, an international forum of business CEOs and chairpersons focused on corporate philanthropy. Internationally, Splinter is a member of the Governor's Council of the World Economic Forum, and is active in the Forum's post-Gleneagles environment efforts.
Prior to joining Applied Materials, Splinter was an executive at Intel Corporation where he held a number of positions in his 20 years at the company, including executive vice president and director of Sales and Marketing and executive vice president and general manager of the Technology and Manufacturing Group.
Splinter began his career at Rockwell International in the firm's Electronics Research Center. During his tenure, he became manager of the company's Semiconductor Fabrication Operations and was awarded two patents. Author of numerous papers and articles, Splinter earned both bachelor of science and master of science degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

IRVINE, Calif. and SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov 23, 2005 -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM) today announced the appointment of Nancy H. Handel to its Board of Directors.
Ms. Handel, 54, serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Applied Materials, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMAT), a major supplier of equipment and services to the global semiconductor industry. Named CFO in October 2004, she has been an executive with Applied Materials since 1985, serving in a variety of key financial leadership positions at the company, including four years as Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Controller and Principal Accounting Officer, and 13 years as Treasurer.
At Applied Materials, Ms. Handel has been responsible for various global functions, such as treasury, tax, new business development, corporate accounting, external financial reporting, financial aspects of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, investor relations and operations finance, including product groups and regions worldwide. Prior to joining Applied Materials, she held financial management positions at Raychem Corporation, Crown Zellerbach Corporation and The Aviation Group.
In the Silicon Valley community, Ms. Handel has served in leadership positions in a number of organizations, including the Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County, where she was on the Board of Directors from 1991 to 2004, serving as Board President for the last six years of her service. She currently serves on the Board of the American Leadership Forum of Silicon Valley, a nonprofit organization that brings senior level leaders together to build philanthropy, public service and community in Silicon Valley.
Ms. Handel received a B.S. in Economics from Purdue University and an M.B.A. from The Ohio State University, and is a graduate of the Stanford Executive Program.

Dr. Gino Addiego joined Novellus in February 2005. As the company's executive vice president of corporate operations, he oversees all of Novellus' manufacturing, supply chain, systems engineering, facilities, and corporate quality organizations.
Prior to joining Novellus, Dr. Addiego spent more than eight years at Applied Materials, where he was responsible for global operations (including manufacturing and supply chain), central engineering, information technology, facilities and all of the product groups. Before that, he worked at KLA-Tencor and Photon Dynamics.
Dr. Addiego received both his bachelor's and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He holds seven patents and was nominated for the National Inventor of the Year Award in 1993.

Tom St. Dennis was named general manager of the newly created Silicon Systems Group in June 2007. The Silicon Systems Group encompasses Applied Materials entire portfolio of semiconductor manufacturing systems. Since 2005, St. Dennis served as senior vice president and general manager of Applied's Etch, Cleans, Front End and Implant Products groups.
From 2003-2005, St. Dennis helped lead Novellus Systems, Inc., serving as executive vice president and a member of the Office of the CEO. From 1999 to 2003, St. Dennis was president and CEO of Wind River Systems, a leader in embedded software.

Toru Watanabe was named vice president and general manager of Applied Materials Japan, Inc. in July 2007, and is responsible for overseeing the Company’s semiconductor and solar businesses and customer collaborations in Japan. Prior to this, he served as regional general manager and representative director of Applied Materials Japan from August 2006 to July 2007.
Watanabe joined Applied Materials in 2002 as group manager of process engineering. Following this, he served as general manager of the Maydan Technology Center Group, responsible for the Company’s advanced research and development center equipped with the industry’s most advanced semiconductor manufacturing systems.
Prior to joining Applied Materials, Watanabe spent more than 20 years at Toshiba Corporation in a variety of roles, including semiconductor process development in R&D, productivity improvement in large scale memory fab, and managing large DRAM fabs in the Company’s U.S. subsidiary.
Watanabe received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in experimental physics with a concentration in polymer and crystalline physics. He received a Ph.D in the growth mechanism of crystalline organic materials from Kyoto University in Kyoto, Japan. He holds many semiconductor-related patents in Japan, the U.S. and other countries.

She has held various other finance roles since joining Applied in 1990.
Dr. Gilad Almogy is senior vice president and general manager for the Display and Thin Film Solar Products Business Group since July 2008, which provides products to the flat panel display market as well as tools for Applied’s SunFab™ Thin Film Solar production lines.
Prior to the Display and Thin Film Solar Products Business Group, Dr. Almogy was general manager of the Process Diagnostics and Control (PDC) business group, where he was responsible for the growth of the Company’s metrology and inspection business from 2002 to 2007. Before that, he served as vice president and co-general manager of the PDC business group from 2000 to 2002. During his tenure with PDC, Dr. Almogy focused his team on the expansion of the Company’s metrology and inspection offerings to address the challenges of advanced customer requirements.
Prior to Applied Materials, Dr. Almogy served as the Physics Group Manager for the Wafer Inspection Group at Orbot Instruments, which was subsequently acquired by Applied Materials in 1995.
Dr. Almogy holds a doctorate in applied physics from the California Institute of Technology and received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and physics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and holds over 28 US patents.

Bill is currently the Director of Core Infrastructure Applications at Applied Materials. Prior to moving to the Applied Corporate EBIS team, Bill was the Director of Information Technology at Etec Systems, an Applied Materials Company. He served Etec as Director of Applications systems prior to that. Before joining Etec Systems, Bill was the Director of Revenue Systems for Management Information Technologies at Cadence Design Systems and Director of Operations for Gateway Design Systems, a Cadence acquisition. Before entering the high tech arena in 1979, Bill was a Registered Respiratory Therapist and held corporate Director positions at two proprietary Hospital Management companies after serving as Technical Director of Respiratory Therapy for a large community hospital in the Boston area. He received his clinical training at Tuft's New England Medical Center, and Harvard's Peter Bent Brigham hospitals. He was chief therapist at Peter Bent Brigham before assuming the Technical Directorship at St. John's Hospital in Lowell Massachusetts. Bill is a retired soccer referee and currently serves as a National Referee Assessor for the United States Soccer Federation and Director of Referee Development for the California North chapter of the West Cost Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association.

Mr. Jerry Cutini is a 25-year veteran of the semiconductor equipment industry with significant experience in multiple areas of management and a diverse portfolio of expertise in the sectors of mergers and acquisitions, public offerings and capital financing. He is the co-founder of Aviza and has been its president and CEO and director since the Company's inception in 2003. Mr. Cutini was appointed Chairman of the Board in November 2007. He was an original co-founder and board member of OnTrak Systems, where he eventually served as president from 1997 to 1998. In this role, Mr. Cutini helped organize the successful $400 million+ merger and integration between Lam Research Corp. and OnTrak in August of 1997. Subsequently, Mr. Cutini led Gasonics International's marketing and business development activities until Novellus Systems acquired Gasonics in 2001. Mr. Cutini has also held key positions at well-known industry companies including Applied Materials and Silicon Valley Group. Mr. Cutini currently serves as a member of the board of directors of SEMI North America. Prior to beginning his career in technology, he served in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve from 1978 to 1984.
Joseph J. Sweeney was named senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Applied Materials in July 2005. Responsible for all legal affairs, worldwide intellectual property and global security, Mr. Sweeney has been instrumental in ensuring strong corporate governance, which demonstrates Applied Materials' leadership and commitment to its stakeholder communities, and in growing the company's intellectual property portfolio that helps to protect its technology leadership. Mr. Sweeney served as group vice president of legal affairs and intellectual property, and corporate secretary since 2002. Prior to joining Applied Materials in 1993, Mr. Sweeney had twenty years of legal experience including, vice president of administration at MIPS Technologies, Inc., a division of Silicon Graphics, vice president and general counsel of MIPS Computer Systems, Inc., senior attorney at Data General Corporation, and private law firms in Boston. Mr. Sweeney received his A.B. from Harvard College in 1970, and his J.D. from Boston University in 1973.

TSURIEL ASSIS brings to his position a wide range of experience in engineering and R&D management from key positions he held with a number of Israeli companies, including El-Op Electro-Optical Industries Ltd., and Applied Materials Ltd.
Wil Huijben has over 20 years of experience in Enterprise Resource Planning and Supply Chain Management. Wil has specialized in making the connection between business requirements and providing high value add IT solutions. Projects he managed spanned all business functions. Many of them involved cross functional business process reengineering and supply chain optimization, leading to stepwise process performance improvements combined with dramatic cost savings. Wil built up an impressive experience in leading international, complex projects. Wil Huijben currently works for Applied Materials. He joined the European organization in January 1995 with responsibility for all IT activities. He was program manager for the implementation of SAP in Europe. Later Wil was involved in deployments of Oracle and PeopleSoft and multiple specialized in-house developed applications. Since 2000, Mr. Huijben is chairman of Applied Materials' global Architecture Review Board. This board is responsible for developing and maintaining Applied Materials' multi-year IT strategy and setting technical standards. The Board oversees and integrates all IT environments and projects. Mr. Huijben was part of Applied Materials' task force to investigate and define its IT outsourcing strategy. This led to the establishment of an Applied Materials office in India and engagement of a large group of India based IT specialists. Before Applied Materials, Wil Huijben worked in process industry and government organizations. In process industry, Wil defined and implemented the company's IT strategy, leading to an ERP implementation integrated with process control. From 1991 until 1995, Wil was chairman of the Dutch SAP user group. In that capacity he worked with many companies to give advise on their ERP implementation projects. Wil also initiated meetings between SAP user group organizations worldwide and SAP's headquarters in Walldorf, Germany. He chaired various seminars on ERP implementation best practices. Wil Huijben received his Bachelor degree in Computer and Information Sciences in 1977 in Eindhoven, Netherlands. In 1992 he followed a post-graduate course in general management at Nijenrode University in the Netherlands.

Since co-founding Synopsys in 1986, Dr. Aart de Geus has expanded Synopsys from a start-up synthesis enterprise to a world leader in electronic design automation (EDA). As a technology visionary, he is frequently asked to speak on topics related to the electronics industry. As one of the leading experts on logic simulation and logic synthesis, Dr. de Geus was made a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in January 1999. He was also honored for pioneering the commercial logic synthesis market by being named the third recipient ever to receive the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Industrial Pioneer Award. In 2002, shortly after transacting the largest merger in EDA history, Dr. de Geus was named CEO of the Year by Electronic Business magazine; and in 2004, Entrepreneur of the Year in IT for Northern California by Ernst & Young. In November 2005, Electronic Business magazine chose Dr. de Geus as one of "The 10 Most Influential Executives." Dr. de Geus is active in the business community as a member of the board of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group (SVLG), TechNet, the Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA), and as Chairman of the Electronic Design Automation Consortium (EDAC). He is also heavily involved in education for the next generation, having created in 1999 the Synopsys Outreach Foundation, which promotes project-based science and math learning throughout Silicon Valley.
Dr. Paul R. Low has served as a director of the Company since 1993. He is currently President of PRL Associates, a position he has held since 1992. Dr. Low worked for IBM from 1957 to 1992. During his tenure at IBM, Dr. Low held senior management and executive positions with successively increasing responsibility, including President, General Technology Division and Corporate Vice President; President of General Products Division; and General Manager, Technology Products business line. James C. Morgan is chairman emeritus of Applied Materials. He previously served as chairman of the board from 1987 to 2009 and as chief executive officer from 1977 to 2003. Prior to joining Applied Materials as president in 1976, he was a senior partner with WestVen Management, a private venture capital partnership affiliated with the Bank of America Corporation. Prior to WestVen, he was with Textron, a leading diversified manufacturing company.
With one of the longest tenures of any FORTUNE 500 CEO, Mr. Morgan has an extensive history in business and philanthropy. Mr. Morgan is a recipient of the 1996 National Medal of Technology for his industry leadership and for his vision in building Applied Materials into the world's leading semiconductor equipment company, a major exporter and a global technology pioneer which helps enable the Information Age. Awarded by the President of the United States, the Medal of Technology recognizes technological innovators who have made lasting contributions to America's competitiveness and standard of living. Among his many honors, Mr. Morgan is a recent recipient of the prestigious Semiconductor Industry Association Robert N. Noyce Award, the highest honor bestowed by the SIA, for outstanding achievement and leadership in support of the U.S. semiconductor industry, and the Spirit of Silicon Valley Lifetime Achievement Award from the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, for his ethics, community engagement and business success.
In 2003, Mr. Morgan was sworn in by President George W. Bush as vice chairman of the President's Export Council, the premier national advisory body on international trade. He was appointed to the 2002 U.S.-Japan Private Sector Government Commission and co-chaired the sessions on corporate governance. From 1996 to 1997, Mr. Morgan served on the Commission on U.S.-Pacific Trade and Investment Policy which advised President Bill Clinton and Congress on steps the United States should take to achieve significant additional market access and improve trade relationships in the Asia-Pacific region. From 1988 to 1992, he served on the National Advisory Committee on Semiconductors, which advised President George H. W. Bush and Congress on a national strategy to strengthen competitiveness of the U.S. semiconductor industry.
Mr. Morgan is an advisory board member for the Center for Science, Technology, and Society at Santa Clara University. He is active with the Nature Conservancy, a global nonprofit organization which establishes nature sanctuaries, serving as a member of the board of governors, a member of its Asia-Pacific Council, and as a trustee of the Nature Conservancy of California. Instrumental in the creation of the Tech Museum Awards which launched in 2000, Mr. Morgan inspired the program’s James C. Morgan Global Humanitarian Award, which honors individuals whose broad vision and leadership help address humanity’s greatest challenges. He formerly was a member of the board of directors of Cisco Systems, Inc. from 1998 to 2006 and is director emeritus and past president of Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), the first global trade association. Mr. Morgan is a past board member of the American Electronics Association (AEA), the National Center for APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) and of SEMI/SEMATECH, the association of U.S. equipment companies which supplies advanced systems to the SEMATECH chipmaking consortium. Mr. Morgan is a member of the World Presidents' Organization. From 1994 to 1996, he was a board member of Joint Venture: Silicon Valley, a leading community public/private collaborative. From 1986 to 1991 he was co-chairman of the Japan-Western U.S. Association. Mr. Morgan's contributions have been honored by many business, education and community organizations throughout his career.
