Arch Coal Inc.

STEVEN F. LEER, 56, has been Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Arch Coal, Inc., a coal producing company, since April 2006. Prior thereto, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of that company. Mr. Leer is a director of Norfolk Southern Corporation, the Western Business Roundtable and the Mineral Information Institute. He also is a director and past Chairman of the Center for Energy and Economic Development, the National Coal Council and the National Mining Association. He is a delegate to the Coal Industry Advisory Board of the International Energy Agency in Paris, a director of the Greater St. Louis Area Boy Scouts of America and a member of the boards of the National Association of Manufacturers and the Business Roundtable. Mr. Leer has been a director since June 2005. He is Chair of the Board s Compensation and Organization Committee and is a member of its Finance and Governance Committees.

Mr. Eaves has been President and Chief Operating Officer since April 2006. From 2002 to April 2006, Mr. Eaves served as our Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Eaves also serves on the board of directors of ADA-ES, Inc.

Paul A. Lang is senior vice president of operations for Arch Coal, Inc. Arch Coal is one of the nation's largest coal producers, with 2007 revenues of $2.5 billion. Lang is responsible for the company's national network of mines. Since joining Arch in 1984, Lang has held a series of engineering, operating and management positions in eight divisions during his 24-year career with the company. Most recently, he held the position of President of Thunder Basin Coal Co. and Arch of Wyoming, followed by President of Western Operations. A native of Utah and Colorado, Lang is a registered professional engineer licensed in six states and serves on the Society of Mining Engineers professional registration committee, the University of Wyoming's School of Energy Resources Council and the Development Board of the Missouri University of Science and Technology. In addition, he served as a commissioner for two terms on the Wyoming Healthcare Commission. Lang received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Missouri-Rolla in Mining Engineering, as well as an honorary professional degree in Mining Engineering. He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Mr. Hatfield has been our President and Chief Executive Officer since March 2005. Prior to joining us, Mr. Hatfield served as President, Eastern Operations of Arch Coal,Inc., a producer of coal in the eastern and western United States, from March 2003 until March 2005. Prior to joining Arch Coal, Inc., Mr. Hatfield was Executive Vice President of El Paso Energy’s Coastal Coal Company, a Central Appalachian coal producer, from December 2001 through February 2003. That assignment was preceded by a lengthy career with Massey Energy Company, a Central Appalachian coal producer, where he last served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from June 1998 through December 2001. Mr. Hatfield has a B.S. in mining engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and University.

Jeffrey Rudnicki specializes in general antitrust and merger investigations. His services include constructing merger simulations, managing and manipulating complex databases, and performing econometric analysis of markets, entry conditions, and product substitutability. Mr. Rudnicki is experienced in many industries, including the coal, telecommunication, pharmaceutical paper, alcohol, and appliance industries. His recent case highlights include Arch Coal vs. FTC, Nestle's acquisition of Dreyer's/Edy's and Heinz's acquisition of Lea & Perrins.

Mr. Burke has served as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Managing General Partner of Burke, Mayborn Company, Ltd., a private investment and consulting company, since 1984. Mr. Burke also serves on the board of directors of Corrigan Investments, Inc. and is a member of the National Petroleum Council.

A. Michael Perry has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Company since April 2004. Mr. Perry served as Chief Executive Officer of Bank One West Virginia Corporation (formerly Key Centurian Bancshares, Inc.) from 1983 until his retirement in June 2001. He also served that institution as Chairman of the Board of Directors from November 1993 until June 2001, and as President from 1983 until 1993. Mr. Perry is a member of the Board of Directors of Champion Industries, Inc. and Arch Coal, Inc.

Since February 2009, Mr. Jennings has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Rise Energy Partners, L.P. From April 2007 to June 2008, Mr. Jennings served as Chief Financial Officer of Energy Transfer Partners GP, L.P., the general partner of Energy Transfer Partners, L.P., a publicly-traded partnership owning and operating a portfolio of midstream energy assets. From March 2004 to December 2006, Mr. Jennings served as Senior Vice President-Corporate Finance and Development and Chief Financial Officer of Devon Energy Corporation. Mr. Jennings served as Senior Vice President-Corporate Finance and Development of Devon Energy Corporation from 2001 to March 2004.

Since 1995, Mr. Hunt has served as Director of Acquisitions of Petro-Hunt, LLC, a private oil and gas exploration and production company.

Since 1998, Ms. Godley has been a partner with the law firm of Van Ness Feldman, practicing in the areas of economic and environmental regulation of electric utilities and natural gas companies. Ms. Godley is also a director of the United States Energy Association.

Since 1999, Mr. Sands has served as President of HAAS Capital, LLC, a private consulting and investment company. Mr. Sands also serves on the board of directors of Terra Nitrogen Corporation.

Mr. Lockhart has been a member of the Wyoming State House of Representatives since 2000. Mr. Lockhart also serves on the board of directors of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming.
