Harvey J. Berger, M.D. is our principal founder and has served as our Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer since April 1991. From 1986 to 1991, Dr. Berger held a series of senior management positions at Centocor, Inc., a biotechnology company, including Executive Vice President and President, Research and Development Division. He also has held senior academic and administrative appointments at Emory University, Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania and was an Established Investigator of the American Heart Association. Dr. Berger is a director of PTC Therapeutics, Inc., a closely held biotechnology company. Dr. Berger received his A.B. degree in Biology from Colgate University and his M.D. degree from Yale University School of Medicine and did further medical and research training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Timothy P. Clackson, Ph.D. has served as our Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer since September 2003. Jay R. LaMarche, one of our Directors since January 1992, is a retired financial executive. Previously, he served as our Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer from January 1992 to November 2000 and as our Executive Vice President from March 1997 to November 2000. Mr. LaMarche was our Senior Vice President, Finance from January 1992 to February 1997. Prior to joining us, he was Chief Financial Officer and a Director of ChemDesign Corporation, a fine chemicals manufacturer. Mr. Kishbauch, who joined Achillion as President and Chief Executive Officer in July 2004, has had an impressive record of launching and commercializing products over his twenty years of pharmaceutical industry experience. Most recently, Mr. Kishbauch founded OraPharma, Inc., an emerging pharmaceutical company focused on oral health. In less than seven years, Mr. Kishbauch and his team completed clinical development and launched OraPharma's lead product, successfully took the Company public, and ultimately sold the Company to Johnson & Johnson in February 2003.
