In 1996 he was appointed managing director of Securicor Cash Services (UK) and he became chief executive of the security division of Securicor in 1999. Nick was appointed to the board of Securicor plc in 2000 and became its chief executive in January 2002. He was appointed deputy chief executive and chief operating officer of the company on completion of the merger between Securicor and Group 4 Falck's security businesses in July 2004, becoming chief executive in July 2005. Following Law School, Steve joined Slaughter & May's tax planning and commercial departments. In 1975 he joined the Legal Department of Imperial Chemical Industries plc. In 1984 he transferred to ICI's company secretary's department, becoming one of two assistant company secretaries in 1985. He was appointed Joint Secretary of Unilever on 1st January 1986 and General Counsel of Unilever in 1993. He is a member of the Company Law Committee of the Law Society and of the Companies Committee of the CBI. He is also a member of the RAC, 2 Brydges Place, the Euston Club, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a member of the Chevalier du Tastevin.
