Jim Henning has been associated with the forging industry for over forty years as an engineer, researcher, manager, educator, and consultant. Prior to forming Henning Educational Services in 1996 he served as the Technical Director of the Forging Industry Association for nine years. Providing a wide range of technical, problem-solving, and educational/training services, he has served as consultant to many firms involved with open-die forging, ring rolling, impression die forging, cold forging, warm forging, and hot forging of a broad variety of automotive, aerospace, and commodity products. His broad industrial experience includes key positions in the Metallurgical Departments of Wyman-Gordon Company, Worchester, MA and Ladish Company, Milwaukee, WI, where he led projects related to non-destructive testing techniques and ways of improving metallurgical quality of nonferrous and ferrous forgings. As a Research Leader in Metalworking at Battelle Memorial Institute, Columbus, OH, Jim led many technical projects for industry and government on warm forging, cold forging of steels and non-ferrous alloys, and forging of cast and PM preforms. He prepared some of the earliest technical reports about the technology of forging titanium alloys, iron-based superalloys, nickel base superalloys, PH stainless steels, as well as magnesium and aluminum alloys. At Metal Forge, Jim was Director of Engineering and participated extensively in the development of a new greenfield plant dedicated to efficient cold and warm forging of many new automotive suspension and steering components. These efforts included employee training and education as well as facility and tooling related activities. He was instrumental in the development of value-added efforts to meet the growing demands of the automotive industry for ready-to-install products. Jim has extensively lectured and published on topics related to forging. He writes the monthly column "Ask Jim" for FORGING magazine. He is the co-author of the Battelle book FORGING MATERIALS AND PRACTICES (Reinhold). At FIA, Jim prepared the technical report that eventually became the FIA Product Design Guide for Forgings. Jim also works closely with ASM International as a metallurgical consultant and has been lead instructor on such training efforts as Heat Treatment of Steels and Metallurgy for Non-Metallurgists. He has organized short courses and workshops on a wide variety of topics related to various forging processes. Jim graduated from the Michigan College of Mining and Technology in metallurgical and mechanical engineering.
Catherine joined the company in 1990 and has over twenty years of experience with stainless steel, nickel-based alloys, and copper-based alloys. She is an internationally recognized architectural metals expert and provides both marketing and technical assistance to the ABC industry. She also speaks regularly at industry conferences and meetings (SMACNA, NAAMM, AIA, CSI, ACSA, and others). She has helped clients develop and implement successful marketing strategies for the ABC industry that have achieved sustained market growth. Services include market research, analysis, development and strategy work as well as preparation of articles and literature. Catherine provides general and project-specific technical assistance including on-site inspections, problem resolution, restoration or renovation of existing structures, grade and finish selection, and project specification review. Catherine regularly provides technical assistance on architectural projects throughout the world. As architectural consultant to the Nickel Development Institute (NiDI), International Molybdenum Association (IMOA), and Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA), she coordinates their North American market development activities, develops literature, provides technical assistance, and has given workshops to thousands of industry decision makers in North America, Asia, Europe, and South America including AIA-approved continuing education workshops. She has authored or co-authored 35 technical publications and is a member of ASM International and the Construction Specifications Institute.

One day in June 1993, Dr. Pratt came across a classified ad in the employment section of the Rochester Sunday paper. It simply said "Solder Guru Wanted" and provided a number to call. Dr. Pratt was not actively seeking employment, but was compelled to call the number. He interviewed with IEC Electronics Corp. that Thursday and started work the following week. For the next year, Dr. Pratt worked full time at IEC as a Process Engineer, Soldering Specialist while performing experiments at the University of Rochester on nights and weekends. In 1994, Dr. Pratt successfully defended his thesis and was granted a Ph.D. in materials science. For the next 11 years, Dr. Pratt moved quickly through the ranks at IEC, holding the positions of Process Engineer, Engineering Group Leader, Advanced Technology Engineer, Quality Engineering Manager, Corporate Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Director of Technology, Director of Quality and Technology, Technology Center Director, VP of Technology and Development and ultimately Chief Technology Officer in 2004. During his tenure at IEC, Dr. Pratt has received a Six Sigma Black Belt Certification from General Electric. Other notable accomplishments include creation and management of the IEC Technology Center and development of the Materials Analysis Lab currently operated by Pratt Technologies, LLC. Dr. Pratt also led a highly publicized project that produced the world's first lead-free telephone assembly in 1996. Dr. Pratt is an active member of the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA), the American Society for Quality (ASQ), ASM International and the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS). Dr. Pratt married in 1995 and has two sons, ages 8 and 9. He founded Pratt Technologies, LLC in 2005.
