Han Westendorp, a twenty-year veteran of the semiconductor industry, serves as COO of ASM International's Front-end Operations. Mr. Westendorp holds this position since 2003 and as COO Mr. Westendorp directs the operations of ASM International's Front-end business. Prior to taking on the role of COO, Mr. Westendorp was General Manager of ASM Europe where he supervised the sales, service and marketing of all ASM International's Front-end product lines in Europe. As General Manager he was also responsible for the engineering and manufacturing of ASM International's vertical furnace product line and during his tenure ASM Europe opened a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for its A400 and A412 vertical furnace products. Mr. Westendorp first joined ASM in 1986 as a physicist and was a key contributor in the development of one of the most successful ion implanters ever designed. Mr. Westendorp spent an initial five years with ASM Internatonal and returned to the company in 1999 after eight years with Tokyo Electon Ltd. (TEL). A recognized expert in the semiconductor industry, Mr. Westendorp has published more than thirty-five technical papers, holds seven patents and has seven additional patents pending. He earned a doctorate degree in physics and mathematics in 1986, and a master's in physics and mathematics in 1981 from the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands.
