Aspen Valley Hospital

Mr. Sarpa is the President of the Aspen Valley Hospital Board of Directors. He is the managing director of the Snowmass Land Company and a real estate developer. Mr. Sarpa has a Law degree and has served on many local boards, including Neighbor to Neighbor, Aspen Valley Medical Foundation, Aspen Chamber Resort Association, Aspen Institute Community Forum, Leadership Aspen, and Aspen Rotary Club. He has been involved in community projects, such as preserving ranchland in the Carbondale area and serving on affordable housing task forces.

Dr. Balko is a board-certified emergency physician at Aspen Valley Hospital. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas and completed his residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. As a hospital-based physician, Dr. Balko works closely with staff and other physicians and brings a unique perspective to the Board.

Linda graduated with a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She has worked as a nurse in a variety of settings for 25 years. She holds a specialty certification from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America and the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses. She is also certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Linda has worked at Aspen Valley Hospital for ten years.

Mr. Frias has lived in Aspen since 1974. He is an owner of Frias Properties of Aspen, a local property management and real estate company that specializes in real estate sales, rentals, property management, and development. Mr. Frias has served on many local organizational boards including: Aspen Chamber Resort Association, Aspen Lodging Association, Aspen Junior Hockey, Aspen School District Financial Advisory Board, Aspen Trout Unlimited, Aspen Child Care Advisory Board, Meadowood Homeowners, and Villa of Aspen Homeowners. Mr. Frias raised his family of two children, born at AVH, in Aspen and currently lives in the Meadowood Subdivision with his wife Marilyn.

Melody graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in nursing from Andrews University. She has 35 years of critical care nursing experience including cardiac care. She holds specialty certification as a critical care RN. She is a member of AACVPR and an Advanced Cardiac Life Support instructor. Melody was instrumental in the start-up of AVH's Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program and has served as director since 1995.
