Ronny B. Lancaster is Senior Vice President, Federal Government Relations for Assurant, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to joining Assurant, Mr. Lancaster was the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Morehouse School of Medicine. Mr. Lancaster was previously the Executive Assistant to the Secretary and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ("HHS"), where his responsibilities included a wide range of policy, program and management matters. Mr. Lancaster has also served as General Counsel of Hamilton Enterprises, Inc., Senior Washington Representative for Blue Cross/Blue Shield Association, Chief of the Division of Fee-For-Service Plans at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and Executive Assistant to the Chairman at the National Institute for Advanced Studies. Mr. Lancaster earned a B.A. in Economics from the Catholic University of America, an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center. He is also admitted to the Bars of Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia, serves as a Board member for the Morehouse College Research Institute and is a past president for the Minority Health Professions Schools as well as the Minority Health Professions Foundation.

Beth L. Bronner has been a director since November 1993, and is the chairperson of our Compensation Committee. Ms. Bronner is currently a Managing Director of Mistral Equity Partners. Ms. Bronner served as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Jim Beam Brands Worldwide, Inc., from September 2003 to July 2006. From May 2001 to September 2003, Ms. Bronner served as a private consultant and president of a private realty company. Ms. Bronner also serves as a director of Assurant, Inc. (formerly Fortis, Inc.).

"Mr. Mackin, age 68, is the former Executive Vice President and Treasurer of the Company, where he served from 1980 until his retirement in 1997. Mr. Mackin has been a member of our Board of Directors since October 1996 and is also a director of Union Security Life Insurance Company of New York, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company. Mr. Mackin served as a consultant to the Company in 1979. He was the Company's fourth employee and initiated many of the Company's early activities, including consolidating its investment departments and its first treasury function. Before joining the Company, he was Director of Investments at Forstmann, Leff. He is currently principal owner of Great Northern Manufacturing, LLC, a Louisville, Kentucky based manufacturer of specialty nails and a member of the Board of Priam Water Co., LLC. "

"Michele Coleman Mayes has been named vice president and general counsel of The Allstate Corporation and senior vice president and general counsel for Allstate Insurance Company, effective November 12, 2007. She will also be a member of the Allstate senior management team. As Allstate's chief legal officer, Mayes will be responsible for guiding Allstate's strategy to ensure sound compliance of governance practices, fostering a healthy legal, legislative and regulatory environment. Mayes brings extensive legal, corporate and government experience to Allstate. From 1976 through 1982, Mayes served in the United States Department of Justice as Assistant United States Attorney in Detroit and Brooklyn, eventually assuming the role of Chief of the Civil Division in Detroit. In 1982, she entered the corporate sector as managing attorney of Burroughs Corporation. Her career continued to evolve as Burroughs and Sperry Corporation merged, creating Unisys Corporation, for which she was appointed staff vice president and associate general counsel for Worldwide Litigation. In February 1992, she joined Colgate-Palmolive Company as vice president and associate general counsel U.S. In 1993, she was promoted to vice president of Human Resources and Legal for North America. Robert J. Blendon is currently professor of health policy and political analysis at both the Harvard School of Public Health and the John F. Kennedy School of Government and has received outstanding teaching awards from both institutions. He has also received both the national Eisenberg award and the Mendelsohn award for excellence in mentoring. Dr. Blendon directs the Harvard Opinion Research Program, which focuses on the better understanding of public knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs about major domestic public policy issues. He also co-directs the Washington Post/Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) survey project, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, and previously directed a project for National Public Radio and KFF on American attitudes toward health and social policy, which was cited by the National Journal as setting a new standard of public opinion surveys in broadcast journalism. From 1987 to 1996, Dr. Blendon served as chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health and as the deputy director of the Harvard University Division of Health Policy Research and Education. Prior to his Harvard appointment, he was senior vice-president at The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Dr. Blendon was senior editor of a three volume series The Future of American Health Care and is a member of the Institute of Medicine, a former member of the advisory committee to the director of the Center for Disease Control, and a former member of the editorial board of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Dr. Blendon is a graduate of Marietta College and received his master's of business administration and doctoral degrees from the University of Chicago and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, respectively.
