Rachel Perkins (Arrernte/Kalkadoon) is the director of two feature films, Radiance (1998) and One Night the Moon (2001), winner of three Australian Film Institute (AFI) Awards. Trained at the Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association, Perkins was an executive producer with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Indigenous Unit for six years, where she commissioned the first National Indigenous Documentary Fund and the Songlines music series. She produced and directed the documentary series Blood Brothers and a thirteen part international co-production, From Spirit to Spirit. In 2001, she was the co-artistic director of the Yeperenye Festival in Alice Springs, Australia's largest festival for indigenous people. The following year she was awarded the Byron Kennedy Award from the AFI for her contribution to the Australian film industry. Perkins was a founding member and current chair of Indigenous Screen Australia and a commissioner of the Australian Film Commission. Her production company, Blackfella Films, is working on a documentary series on the history of Australia's Aboriginal people and the Torres Strait Islanders.
