Dr. Barbarossa has an impressive record of accomplishment in management roles working in some of the foremost companies in the optical communications industry, including Agilent Technologies, Lucent Technologies, AT&T, and BT. Dr. Barbarossa joined Avanex in 2000 as Director of Research and Development. He was then promoted to Chief Technology Officer and Sr. Vice President of Product Development, and served in this capacity until 2004. From 2004 through 2005 Dr. Barbarossa was responsible for the Avanex Active Component Business Unit. From 2005 until his appointment as President and Chief Executive Officer in 2008, Dr. Barbarossa continued to serve as Avanex Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Barbarossa has played a pivotal role in all acquisitions that Avanex has made, including the acquisitions of the Photonic Business Division of Corning, Alcatel Optronics, and the Optical Networking Division of Vitesse Semiconductor that radically transformed the company in 2003. Before joining Avanex, Dr. Barbarossa had management responsibilities for the development of advanced optical switching platforms in the Optical Networking Division of Agilent Technologies. In addition, he led the design team of the Optical Application Specific Integrated Circuits department at Lucent Technologies. Earlier, he was a Member of the Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Labs and a research associate in the Oxide Glasses for Future Networks Group at BT Labs. Dr. Barbarossa received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and a bachelor of science in electrical engineering, cum laude, from the University of Bari, Italy.

Ken Johnson joined PSB in May of 2004 as Human Resources Director with 20 years experience in corporate culture, recruiting and retention, employee relations, training, compensation and merger and acquisition integration. He was most recently with Mountain View based Spectra-Physics Lasers, Inc. for 14 years, where he was hugely successful in helping to improve sales and reducing employee turnover. Prior to that, Mr. Johnson was with PG&E in the Bay Area, providing employees with a range of HR services for 7 years. Mr. Johnson holds an MBA from Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, CA, and a BS in Business Administration from San Jose State University.

Susan Wang is a retired senior executive and corporate officer who spent more than 25 years in high-tech financial, consulting and senior management positions. As executive vice president, business development and corporate secretary of Solectron, she had responsibility for Solectron's long-range planning process and business development efforts and was the electronic manufacturing services industry's highest-ranking female executive. Ms. Wang began her career at Solectron in 1984 as director of finance. She was promoted to vice president of finance and chief financial officer in 1986, became a senior vice president in 1990 and corporate secretary in 1992. She oversaw the company's initial public offering in 1989 and guided its growth into the world's largest electronics manufacturing services company. Before joining Solectron, she held financial and accounting management positions with Xerox Corporation and Westvaco Corporation. A certified public accountant, she began her career with Price Waterhouse & Co. in New York. Ms. Wang also is active in a number of professional and community leadership roles. She chaired the Financial Executive Research Foundation, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and of the Financial Executive Institute. In 1995 she won the YWCA's Top Women in Industry Award, and she was named one of the San Francisco Bay Area's most powerful corporate women. She earned a master's in business administration from the University of Connecticut and a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Texas.

Joel A. Smith, III is Dean of the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina - Columbia . He joined USC in October 2000, two months after retiring from Bank of America. Smith joined Bank of America in 1971. During his tenure, he advanced from credit analyst to President of Bank of America East, with responsibilities for the Commercial, Small Business, Premier, and Consumer Banking divisions in seven states and the District of Columbia , representing more than $90 billion in assets under management. A native of Columbia , South Carolina, Smith graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, with a bachelor of arts degree in political science and economics. He also attended the National Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma and the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University . Smith served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971 and in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1971 to 1987, when he retired at the rank of Commander. Smith serves on the boards of the S.C. Business Center for Excellence in Education, the S.C. ETV Endowment, and the Board of Regents of the University of the South. He is a member and former chairman of the Board of Spoleto Festival USA and was a co-chairman of its 25th Anniversary Campaign. In addition, he serves on the Board of Avanex Corporation, chairing the Audit Committee, and on the Board of Directors for NetBank, chairing the Compensation Committee. He is an organizer, director, and chairman of the Audit Committee for Carolina National Bank & Trust and is also an organizer and director of The Palmetto Institute. In January 2003, Smith was awarded the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian honor given by the governor of South Carolina . In May 2001, Smith was inducted into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame; in 2000, he was named Humanitarian of the Year by the United Way . In 1997, he was named S.C. Economic Development Volunteer of the Year by the South Carolina Economic Development Association. He received the "Tree of Life" award from the National Jewish Fund, and was awarded honorary degrees by South Carolina State University , Fayetteville State University, and the University of South Carolina- Aiken. In 1994, he received the Businessman of the Year award from the S.C. Chamber of Commerce.

"Dr. Joseph A. Miller, Jr. joined Corning Incorporated in July 2001 as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. He was named to his current position in March 2002.
Prior to joining Corning, Dr. Miller was with E.I. DuPont de Nemours, Inc., where he served as Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President for Research & Development since 1994. He began his career with DuPont in 1966 as a Research Chemist in Polymer Science. He also held a variety of positions in research and development, manufacturing, business and marketing.
Dr. Miller received a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Military Institute and a doctorate in Chemistry from Penn State University. Vinton G. Cerf is vice president and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google. He is responsible for identifying new enabling technologies and applications on the Internet and other platforms for the company.
Widely known as a "Father of the Internet," Vint is the co-designer with Robert Kahn of TCP/IP protocols and basic architecture of the Internet. In 1997, President Clinton recognized their work with the U.S. National Medal of Technology. In 2005, Vint and Bob received the highest civilian honor bestowed in the U.S., the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It recognizes the fact that their work on the software code used to transmit data across the Internet has put them "at the forefront of a digital revolution that has transformed global commerce, communication, and entertainment."
From 1994-2005, Vint served as Senior Vice President at MCI. Prior to that, he was Vice President of the Corporation for National Research Initiatives (CNRI), and from 1982-86 he served as Vice President of MCI. During his tenure with the U.S. Department of Defense's Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) from 1976-1982, Vint played a key role leading the development of Internet and Internet-related data packet and security technologies.
Since 2000, Vint has served as chairman of the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and he has been a Visiting Scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory since 1998. He served as founding president of the Internet Society (ISOC) from 1992-1995 and was on the ISOC board until 2000. Vint is a Fellow of the IEEE, ACM, AAAS, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the International Engineering Consortium, the Computer History Museum and the National Academy of Engineering.
Vint has received numerous awards and commendations in connection with his work on the Internet, including the Marconi Fellowship, Charles Stark Draper award of the National Academy of Engineering, the Prince of Asturias award for science and technology, the Alexander Graham Bell Award presented by the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf, the A.M. Turing Award from the Association for Computer Machinery, the Silver Medal of the International Telecommunications Union, and the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal, among many others.
He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA and more than a dozen honorary degrees.
