AVANT Immunotherapeutics, Inc. is engaged in the discovery, development and commercialization of products that harness the human immune system to prevent and treat disease. We are developing a broad portfolio of vaccines and immunotherapeutics addressing a wide range of applications including bacterial and viral diseases, and food safety. These include single dose, oral vaccines that protect against important disease causing agents, addressing the traveler's market, pandemic diseases, and global health needs. Our strategy is to demonstrate proof of concept for our products before leveraging their value through partnerships. Our current collaborations encompass the development of an oral human rotavirus vaccine which has received marketing approval in Mexico in over 90 countries worldwide, and vaccines addressed to human food safety and animal health. Our products address large market opportunities for which current therapies are inadequate or nonexistent.

Mr. Marucci was a founder of Celldex and Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Secretary since May 2003 prior to his appointments to Executive Vice President in March 2008, President and Chief Executive Officer in October 2008, and the Board of Directors in December 2008. Dr. Davis joined Celldex in 2006 as Vice President of Clinical Development and Chief Medical Officer and was appointed to Senior Vice President in March 2008. Mr. Elston became a Director of Celldex in March 2004 and is the Chief Financial Officer of Optherion, Inc., a privately held biopharmaceutical company located in New Haven, Connecticut. Mr. Elston has more than 20 years of financial and business expertise in the biotechnology and medical device industries. Before joining Optherion, Mr. Elston was with Elusys Therapeutics where he raised significant funding from government and private sources, completed multiple strategic collaborations with large pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms, and oversaw collaborations with the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Institutes of Health. Before joining Elusys, Mr. Elston was Chief Financial Officer of Trillium USA, Inc., where he established the financial and administrative functions for the Company’s multi-national operations. Previously, Mr. Elston was with C.R. Bard, Inc., an international manufacturer and distributor of medical devices, where he directed financial operations for multiple manufacturing facilities and successfully integrated strategic acquisitions; and with Price Waterhouse. Mr. Conrad became a Director of Celldex in March 2004. Mr. Conrad was the former president of Roche Pharmaceuticals in the United States from 1982 until his retirement in 1993. Since then he has served on the boards of Dura, UroCor, Sicor, GenVec (chairman), Bone Care International (chairman) and was a co-founder of Reliant Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Conrad is currently chairman of Sapphire Therapeutics and is on the boards of Savient Pharmaceuticals, Pharmasset Inc., and Symphony Evolution.
