Lynda Barrett fills a unique role for Baptist Health Care as part of the consulting arm that specifically helps clients achieve employer of choice status and integrate the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality criteria into their organizations. As director of planning for Baptist Health Care and co-lead on the Baptist Hospital Inc. Baldrige Steering Committee, she understands the intricacies of introducing the Baldrige standards into an organization, as well as its necessity in achieving extraordinary levels of excellence. She joins other Baptist Health Care team members and Leadership Institute consultants who applied for the award four times and won it on the fifth, offering invaluable insights into the Baldrige framework. Specifically, Lynda provides expertise in leadership, strategic planning, customer and staff focus, process management and measurement. Lynda s Baldrige experience is in-depth and hands on. She is the Category 7 team leader for Baptist Hospital and was the co-author and editor for the hospital s Baldrige application process from 1999 to 2003. She organized all the site visit preparations from 2000 to 2003 and was instrumental in Baptist Hospital Inc. being the second healthcare entity ever to receive the Baldrige award. In additional Baldrige-related activities, Lynda has been involved in Baptist Health Care s journey to service and operational excellence as leader of the Measurement Team, and as a member of the Strategic Measurement team, Master Site Planning Team, and the Board Retreat Team. Prior to joining Baptist and her current role in strategic planning, Lynda worked for a large Florida-based HMO in provider relations. Lynda has a Master of Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis. She is also a graduate of Florida State University, and holds a bachelor s degree in Finance. She is a frequent speaker and seminar leader on Baldrige criteria, including being a presenter at multiple state conferences as well as at the 2004 and 2005 Baldrige regional conferences. In her words: The Baldrige framework is a powerful tool for organizations to reach unprecedented levels of excellence. It s hard work, especially since most people still have to fill other roles while they are working to implement the Baldrige criteria, but it is well worth it. And I love helping clients achieve that level of excellence.
