"Stephen Riggio is the chief executive officer and vice chairman of Barnes & Noble, Inc. He also serves as a member of the company’s board of directors.
Mr. Riggio, a 30-year veteran of the bookselling business, joined Barnes & Noble in 1975 after graduating from Brooklyn College. From 1981 to 1987, he was vice president and general manager of Barnes & Noble’s direct mail division. After the company acquired B. Dalton Booksellers in 1987, Mr. Riggio was appointed executive vice president of merchandising, responsible for the buying and marketing functions for the company’s 800 retail stores. In 1991, Mr. Riggio played an instrumental role in the conception, design and marketing campaign of Barnes & Noble’s strategy for book superstores. In 1995, he was appointed the company’s chief operating officer. While executing an aggressive retail expansion, Mr. Riggio also led the company’s efforts into e-commerce. Barnes & Noble.com opened for business in March 1997 and has grown to become one of the largest e-commerce businesses in America.
Mr. Riggio was appointed chief executive officer of Barnes & Noble, Inc. in February 2002. In January of 2003, Mr. Riggio expanded the company’s publishing operations with the acquisition of Sterling Publishers, one of the largest book publishers of how-to and reference books in the world.
A long time advocate for individuals with Down Syndrome and developmental disabilities, he serves on the board of The Association for the Help of Retarded Children Foundation.

"J. Alan Kahn was named president of the Barnes & Noble Publishing Group in February 2002. From 1997, he was chief operating officer of Barnes & Noble, Inc. A veteran of the bookselling and publishing industries for over 30 years, Mr. Kahn began his career on the west coast in a senior merchandising position at the highly regarded Pickwick Bookshops, one of the first “large store” chains of bookstores in the United States.
In 1971, Mr. Kahn joined B. Dalton Booksellers, Inc., the then Dayton Hudson-owned bookstore chain, as vice president of merchandising and was a member of the management team that built B. Dalton into the most widely respected, dominant force in bookselling in the 1970s.
He also served as president of Marboro Books and editor-in-chief of the trade division of Harcourt Brace Publishers.
Mr. Kahn joined Barnes & Noble, Inc. in 1978 as executive vice president, and in 1988 was named president and chief operating officer of Barnes & Noble College Booksellers, Inc. He was promoted to chief executive officer in 1995. Barnes & Noble College Booksellers, Inc. is the premier operator of college bookstores in the U.S., with stores at more than 600 college and university campuses throughout the country, including Yale, Harvard, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Kahn lives with his wife and son in Manhattan.

William J. Lynch, Jr. became president of Barnes & Noble.com on February 2, 2009, responsible for the company’s e-commerce operations. Mr. Lynch joined Barnes & Noble from HSNi, where he was executive vice president of marketing and general manager of HSN.com. From 2004 to 2008, he was chief executive officer and co-founder of gifts.com, a wholly owned subsidiary of IAC.
From 2000-2004, Mr. Lynch was vice president and general manager, e-commerce, for Palm Inc., where he oversaw Palm’s Web properties, including: Palm.com, the Palm Online Store, the Palm Software Connection and the Palm.Net wireless ISP. His earlier career included brand management positions at Seagram Universal and Guinness.
Mr. Lynch graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in economics and received his MBA from the Columbia School of Business.

Joseph Lombardi was named chief financial officer of Barnes & Noble, Inc. in May 2003. He is responsible for financial management for the company, including accounting and financial reporting, tax, risk management, vendor relations, merchandise planning and control, and investor relations.
Mr. Lombardi joined Barnes & Noble in May 2002 as vice president and controller. Since 1995, Mr. Klipper and the Barnes & Noble Development group have been responsible for the site locations, designs, and construction of more than 500 Barnes & Noble "super" stores. From March 1993 to December 1995, Mr. Klipper was president of Barnes & Noble Booksellers. Previously, he was chief financial officer of Barnes & Noble, Inc., a position to which he was elected in September 1988. From 1986 to 1988, he was vice president and chief financial officer of Barnes & Noble College Bookstores, Inc. Mr. Klipper began his career in public accounting with the firm of KMG Main Hurdman, where he served for seven years in various capacities, including audit manager. Thomas P. Burke was named executive vice president, e-commerce, for Barnes & Noble in 2005. He is responsible for managing our online business, including merchandising, online marketing, B to B sales, customer experience, design and editorial content.
Since joining Barnes & Noble in 2005, Mr. Burke’s focus has been on increasing online revenues. He recently led efforts to redesign the Barnes & Noble.com website and introduce new product lines.
Mr. Burke has a wealth of consumer marketing and online experience, having spent 12 years at the Discovery Channel and seven years at Prodigy Services Company.
At the Discovery Channel, he was most recently senior vice president, marketing and e-commerce, and was responsible for managing the direct marketing business, including the online, catalog and direct response television units. Previously, he launched the merchandise licensing business and marketed the home video, multimedia and Discovery.com offerings.
Prior to the Discovery Channel, Mr. Burke was a pioneer in the online industry, joining Prodigy Services Company in 1985. During his tenure, he served in various positions including product manager, where he developed and marketed several content areas and premium service “Custom Choices.” Early in his career, he learned the book business at Dell Publishing.
Mr. Burke attended New York University for both undergraduate and graduate studies, earning a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's in business administration (MBA).
William F. Duffy was named executive vice president of distribution and logistics for Barnes & Noble, Inc. in February 2002. He is responsible for the operations of our Jamesburg, New Jersey, distribution center and our Reno, Nevada, facility. His mandate is to evolve our distribution network to new levels of efficiency and excellence with regard to the fulfillment of retail-store orders and the connections to our fulfillment systems at Barnes & Noble.com. Mr. Duffy returned to Barnes & Noble, Inc. after serving for four years as vice president of operations at Barnes & Noble.com. His leadership skills and resourcefulness greatly contributed to Barnes & Noble.com's growth and success. He not only managed a rapidly growing operation in a highly competitive environment, but also delivered an increasing level of quality service. Today, Barnes & Noble.com delivers more titles faster than any other online bookseller in good part due to the staff and systems that Mr. Duffy put in place. Prior to his position at Barnes & Noble.com, he was vice president and general manager of our mail-order catalog and before that was vice president, finance, at Barnes & Noble, Inc. His prior experience included three years at Jamesway as vice president of finance. William Duffy holds a B. S. degree in accounting from Villanova University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Lindstrom's responsibilities include accounting, financial reporting, merchandise control, financial planning and analysis, and vendor relations.
Prior to joining the company, Mr. Lindstrom was chief financial officer at Liberty Travel, Inc. Previously, he was financial controller of The Museum Company, Inc. and held various director-level positions at Toys 'R' Us, Inc.

"Jennifer M. Daniels was appointed as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Barnes & Noble, Inc., in 2007.
As general counsel and corporate secretary, Ms. Daniels is responsible for all legal matters for Barnes & Noble, Inc. and its subsidiaries, including coordination with outside counsel. She provides guidance to the company and its Board of Directors on all corporate governance and Securities and Exchange Commission matters, including public disclosures.
Prior to joining Barnes & Noble, Inc., Ms. Daniels held senior positions in IBM’s legal department, where she served as an attorney for over 16 years, including: vice president, assistant general counsel, and chief trust and compliance officer with worldwide responsibility for IBM’s legal and regulatory compliance; vice president and assistant general counsel for litigation with worldwide responsibility for IBM’s litigation and regulatory inquiries; and vice president and general counsel for IBM Americas, where she managed a team of approximately 95 lawyers and professionals in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America.

Kenneth Brooks, Jr. Ken Brooks is Vice President of Digital Content at Barnes & Noble, Inc. and President of EP Ventures, Inc. He joined Barnes & Noble in 1999 where he founded EP Ventures, a Philippines-based text conversion and composition company, as well as the 1873 Press, a POD and eBook publishing entity. Ken has held several senior management positions in publishing, including Vice President of Operations, Production, and Strategic Planning at Bantam Doubleday Dell and Vice President of Customer Operations at Simon and Schuster. Prior to his entry into publishing, Ken was a Senior Manager in Andersen Consulting's Logistics Strategy Practice. With the advent of on-demand printing and fulfillment of books centrally and at point-of-purchase, digital printing is poised to take the book publishing and retailing industries by storm. This presentation will address some of the challenges we're facing in the management of a large-scale distributed printing application across a wide variety of print engines.
"Michelle Smith was named vice president of human resources for Barnes & Noble, Inc. in November 1996. She is responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of policies, practices and programs covering employee relations, compensation, benefits, organizational development and employee services.
Ms. Smith joined Barnes & Noble in September 1993 as director of human resources. She was instrumental in directing the development of new initiatives that supported Barnes & Noble’s rapid expansion – a corporate Intranet, a human resources service center, and an improved benefits package.
Prior to joining Barnes & Noble, Ms. Smith was vice president for personnel administration at Fortunoff’s, a multi-site specialty retailer in the New York City area. Before that, she held various personnel positions at TDK Electronics Corporation.
Michelle Smith holds a bachelor's of science degree in exceptional education from the University of Miami and completed her graduate studies in administration and supervision at Nova University in Ft. Debbie Smart was raised in Arlington Heights and spent much of her career in the insurance industry working for Liberty Mutual, Home Insurance and CNA Insurance. Prior to moving back to Illinois she was a CFO for a small electronics company. She has served as a member of the California Fair Housing and Employment Task Force. In returning to the area after spending years away she wanted to actively participate in the community. "I couldn't think of anything that helped me more in my childhood than the time I spent at the Arlington Heights Park District. Being asked to serve on the Park Foundation board is a natural fit". Robbie Bryan is currently serving in his third year as board member-at-large and is chair of the Publicity Committee. Robbie earned a bachelor of music in voice and a bachelor of art in biology from Columbus State University. He has completed coursework at the masters level in voice, choral music and composition as well as in microbiology at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Ann Dorogh just can't get enough of books and the people who read them. After spending all day handling corporate and institutional accounts and community relations at Barnes & Noble, she volunteers to help libraries. Ann joined the Board of Trustees in 2006, and already serves on the Strategic Planning and Executive Committees. She was previously a Legislative Assistant on Capital Hill and a news reporter, which cam in handy when visiting with elected officials to advocate for the library budget. Ann lives in Bethesda with her husband, architect Gregory Uekman, and is Vice President of the Huntington Terrace Citizens' Association. Andrea Setian joined Madison HGCD in February 2003. Ms. Setian was previously a Vice President in the New York Transactions Group of Jones Lang LaSalle where she specialized in landlord representation of both office and retail space. She brings experience in strategic consulting, financial analysis and marketing and has represented landlords in transactions with Barnes & Noble, Starbucks, T-Mobile and many other local and regional retailers. She has also worked with retailers in identifying sites, evaluating demographics and negotiating business terms for new sites in Manhattan. Ms. Setian was previously a Regional Manager responsible for overseeing Jones Lang LaSalle's Downtown portfolio of 6 million square feet of mixed use properties. Prior to that, Ms. Setian was responsible for leasing and managing a 500,000 square foot trophy office/retail building in the Plaza District of Manhattan. Genne Murphy is a Philly native and graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, with a BFA in Dramatic Writing. While in New York she worked as an Assistant to the Directors of The Drama League and the New York Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. She was also involved in several Tisch productions as a playwright, actor, and co-producer. Locally, she has had readings or performances of her plays and monologues with Flashpoint Theatre Company, Madhouse Late Night Cabaret, and the Cardboard Box Collaborative. Genne is also an alumnus of Philadelphia Young Playwrights and first place winner in their 1999 play festival. Her winning play, A Perfect Mother, received a staged reading at Temple University that year.As Office Manager, Genne oversees and coordinates the administrative functions of Philadelphia Young Playwrights, including database management, correspondence, accounting, and intern/volunteer support. She also coordinates the Saturday morning reading series of winning elementary and middle school plays at Barnes & Noble. Mark joined Blackwell in April of 2005. He arrived as the new Director of Book Operations at our Blackwood, NJ facility. Mark comes to Blackwell with 20 years of experience in book distribution working for companies such as Barnes & Noble, Baker & Taylor and most recently, Borders. Mark ran the East Coast operations for Borders for over 7 years and then spent over 3 years working at their corporate offices on enterprise systems implementations. Most recently, Mark was appointed as Vice President of Book Operations.
Michael N. Rosen is a director. Mr. Rosen has served as a director for us or our predecessor companies since October 1999. Mr. Rosen is also a member of the Executive Committee and served as the Secretary of the Company or our predecessor companies from October 1999 until May 2007. Mr. Rosen has been a partner at Bryan Cave LLP, counsel to the Company, since their July 2002 combination with Robinson Silverman. Prior to that, Mr. Rosen was Chairman of Robinson Silverman.
Having recently become a father, author Nick Katsoris is delighted to venture into the world of children's literature with his first children's book Loukoumi. He now plans to design a series of books and products around Loukoumi and her friends, Dean, Fistiki and Marika. Released in March, Katsoris has appeared in the New York Times, the Journal News, and on News 12. The author is also currently on a national book signing tour with Barnes & Noble and other venues. Nick is a New York attorney and since 1995 has served as General Counsel of the Red Apple Group. A graduate of Fordham Law School, Nick is Entertainment Editor for the Hellenic Times newspaper, and has published several articles for the American Bar Association and the National Law Journal. Katsoris is also the author of the legal thriller Crimes of Fire (www.crimesoffire.com) and in 2002 he completed a 12 city national book signing tour with Barnes & Noble and other venues. His second legal thriller, a sequel to Crimes of Fire, is expected to be released later this year. Nick is also an advocate of education and in 1989 founded the Hellenic Times Scholarship Fund. Since its inception, he has served as President of the organization and over $1 million has been awarded to over 500 students.
