John Trask joined Barney & Barney in June 2000 and became an owner of the firm in 2005. During his career he has worked with companies of all sizes, in many different industries and in both the private and public sectors. He has nearly 30 years of experience relating to employee benefits program design and property and casualty risk management consulting. He has designed many programs for publicly held corporations, including financial institutions, regional airlines and a broad base of other industries. John has also specialized in the implementation of self-insured plans. Prior to joining Barney & Barney, John owned his own insurance brokerage firm, which was ultimately purchased by AON Corporation. While with AON he was promoted to Executive Vice President where he was responsible for managing a regional office. John is on the Board of Directors of the Arthritis Foundation and has volunteered his time with many other non-profit organizations. He was on the Board of Directors for a local Independent Insurance Agents Association. John also served in the Air Force and retired from the California Air National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving his last eight years as a Squadron Commander.

Robert McAlister is the Risk and Loss Advisors Director at Barney & Barney, LLC, in San Diego, California. His multi-faceted role includes business development and client services in areas such as risk management, business continuity and crisis management, and occupational safety and health. Prior to this position, McAlister was the Safety and Emergency Response Program Manager for the City of San Diego. In 1975, Dan shifted his career path from accounting to the insurance profession. After six years with Prudential Insurance Company, he joined Barney & Barney as an Account Executive. He became an owner in the firm in 2001. Dan focuses his attention on being an advocate on behalf of his clients, anticipating and responding to their unique health insurance challenges and creating custom designed health packages that speak directly to their needs. Dan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Dakota. He also has achieved the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) and Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) designations. A past-President of The Society Club, a group supporting the American Cancer Society, Dan is active in Toastmasters, the North County Personnel Association, Junior Achievement, and is a Board Member of the Rancho Family YMCA.

John is a Principal with Barney & Barney LLC. He leads the Executive Risk Practice, which focuses on strategically managing clients' directors and officers liability and errors & omissions programs. John's insurance-related experience spans more than 18 years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia, and a Juris Doctor from George Mason University School of Law. He is currently a non-practicing member of the Virginia Bar. He serves on the Board of Directors for Corporate Directors Forum. Prior to joining Barney & Barney, John was the Regional Financial Lines Manager for a division of a global insurance broker where he was responsible for directors & officers liability, professional liability, employment practices liability, and related coverages for 14 offices in the West. John's also served in the capacity of regional technology practice leader. John is a frequent author and public speaker on a host of topics that include, among others, corporate governance, executive and professional liability. John has worked extensively with life sciences, technology, healthcare and manufacturing sector clients. He has successfully managed over 100 public company D&O programs.

Paul Heidemann joined Barney & Barney as a Principal in 2008. As the leader of the Construction Practice Group, Paul brings new strategic outlooks and greater potential to this already growing Practice Group. His deep understanding of and reach within the construction industry helps to better serve Barney & Barney's construction clients. Paul has over twelve years of successful experience in the insurance and construction sector. Paul is a member of the Association of General Contractors, the Engineering General Contractors Association, and the Asphalt Paving Association. As the Managing Director of the company's Aliso Viejo office, Travis is responsible for providing leadership and strategic planning for the company's Orange County operations. For more than 12 years, Travis has provided risk management and insurance counsel to companies of all sizes, ranging from start-ups to global exchange traded companies. Diana Twadell became a Principal at Barney & Barney in 2008. As a Principal in Barney & Barney's Small Business Unit (SBU), Diana specializes in small to mid-sized group benefits and uses her product, service and legislative expertise to help her clients deal effectively and proactively with the unique challenges small business owners face. As Vice President for Legislation for the San Diego Association of Health Underwriters, Diana has met with legislators in Sacramento and Washington DC to discuss healthcare issues and strategies to assist small business owners in providing high quality employee benefits to their employees. Diana holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Studies from Bethel College.
