Dr. Giacchino taught economics at Duke University and at Universidad Catolica Argentina. He was Vice President at NERA, where he provided economic analysis and advisory services to regulated markets. He served as Senior Economist at one private oil and gas company in Argentina and worked at another. In his work at the oil and gas companies, he coordinated project evaluations of oil field auctions, renegotiated contracts with the state owned companies, directed research in international energy markets, and participated in planning for the deregulation of energy markets in Argentina. He has an extensive background in microeconomics, regulation, finance, modeling, econometrics, international trade and finance, and macroeconomics. He is the coauthor (with Dr. Jonathan Lesser) of Fundamentals of Energy Regulation, which was published in 2007 by Public Utilities Reports, Inc.

Robert C. Marshall is Head of the Economics Department at the Pennsylvania State University and a Partner with Bates White. Dr. Marshall works closely with our clients to provide intellectual leadership in antitrust litigation, with particular expertise in antitrust liability and cartels. Dr. Marshall is a recognized thought leader in the areas of industrial organization, applied game theory, auctions, procurements, and collusion. In In re Vitamins Antitrust Litigation, Dr. Marshall served as a liability expert, working closely with Bates White professionals to examine whether the economic evidence was inconsistent with noncooperative conduct during a period of time predating the defendants' guilty pleas. Dr. Marshall determined that the evidence in the vitamins market was inconsistent with noncooperative conduct during this time period. Dr. Marshall also provided liability expert report and deposition testimony for a large coalition of direct-action plaintiffs involved in a complex horizontal conspiracy matter in the cardboard container industry (In re Linerboard Antitrust Litigation). Dr. Marshall has testified before Congress regarding incentives in procurement contracting. He has served on two panels for the National Research Council. As Head of the Department of Economics at The Pennsylvania State University for the past 10 years he has led the Department through a significant transformation. Dr. Marshall has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and elsewhere on topics related to industrial organization, applied game theory, auctions, procurements, and collusion. His published work includes papers on collusive mechanisms, detecting bidder collusion at Forest Service Timber auctions, differential payments within a bidder coalition, and incentives in procurement contracting.

Ben Scher performs economic analyses, discovery support, and research; and he leads teams that support testifying experts in their production of expert reports in litigation matters. He has worked on several major engagements involving antitrust issues, RICO disputes, product liability disputes, and corporate acquisitions. Mr. Scher has expertise in economic issues relating to class certification, firm conduct, market definition, market power, and competitive effects. He has focused extensively on projects in the health care industry. Mr. Scher has also worked on projects in a variety of other industries, including technology products, agricultural products, and alcoholic beverages.
Spencer Yang is a Manager in the Energy Practice of Bates White. His areas of expertise include transmission modeling, computer simulation techniques, economic and statistical analysis, and quantitative and predictive modeling. Dr. Yang provides attorneys and senior management with strategic advice and litigation support in electric transmission business and regulatory market power disputes. Dr. Yang is the recipient of numerous awards, distinctions, and honors. Highlights include receiving the AKPA Outstanding Young Researcher Award (Honorable Mention) at the "Physics Without Borders" symposium of the American Physical Society; the DESY International Outstanding Ph.D. Award (only three individuals out of 2,600 Ph.D.s receive this prize); and the Columbia University Graduate Fellowship. He also holds the distinction of completing a three-year high school program in three months at age 14, the youngest and fastest record in Republic of Korea. Prior to joining Bates White, Dr. Yang served as a Staff Scientist at California Institute of Technology. Previously, Dr. Yang served as a Senior Postdoctoral Scholar at California Institute of Technology, where he synthesized abstract research results into meaningful recommendations to government reviewers. Dr. Yang is fluent in Korean and possesses basic knowledge of German and Japanese.
Alise Edwards is the Marketing Coordinator at Bates White, an economic consulting firm, where she is responsible for developing and executing business development, marketing and corporate communications programs. Previously, she worked as a graphic designer at Duke University where she received her undergraduate degree and a certificate in marketing. Edwards previously served on several M Awards committees.
