Robert Bertolini is executive vice president and chief financial officer of Schering-Plough Corporation.
Bertolini joined Schering-Plough in his present position in November 2003. He is responsible for building a dynamic global finance team that comprises key financial areas, including taxes, accounting, internal audits, financial asset management, external financial relations, investments for employee benefit plans, and risk management and insurance. Additionally, he has responsibility for global information technology and business development.
In his previous role at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Bertolini managed the global pharmaceutical industry practice. He has extensive experience in audit, financial controls and corporate governance as well as in acting as a senior adviser to top management on financial and general business issues, including licensing and M&A transactions. Bertolini began his professional career at the former Coopers & Lybrand in 1983 and rose steadily through the company's professional ranks, serving blue-chip global clients in the pharmaceutical industry.
Bertolini graduated with a B.A. degree in economics from Rutgers University. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
David Meeker joined Genzyme in 1994. He has served as president of the LSD business unit since 2003, during which time he has led the global launches of Aldurazyme, Fabrazyme and Myozyme. In addition, he oversees the Biosurgery and Transplant business units.
Prior to joining Genzyme, Dr. Meeker was director of the Pulmonary Critical Care Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He was also an assistant professor of medicine at Ohio State University.
Dr. Meeker attended Dartmouth College and has an M.D. from the University of Vermont Medical School.

Peter Wirth joined Genzyme in 1996 after having served as the company’s outside general counsel since 1982. He has senior management responsibility for the corporate development and legal departments. Prior to joining Genzyme, he was a partner at Palmer and Dodge, a Boston law firm, where he was head of the firm’s technology group. Mr. Wirth has a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin.
Alan E. Smith, Ph.D., CBE is Senior Vice President, Research and Chief Scientific Officer of Genzyme which he joined Genzyme in 1989. Genzyme is based in Cambridge MA and is one of the world's top Biotechnology companies. He has overall responsibility for the company's science. Before Integrated Genetics was acquired by Genzyme in 1989, Dr. Smith was that company's vice president and scientific director. Prior to joining Integrated Genetics, he was head of the Biochemistry Division of the National Institute for Medical Research, Mill Hill, in London. Dr. Smith has also served as a member of the scientific staff at London's Imperial Cancer Research Fund. Dr. Smith has a Ph.D. from the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, England and a B.A. from Christ's College, Cambridge, England. Roger Louis joined Genzyme in 1997. He is responsible for the company’s corporate compliance program and is the managing counsel for compliance and health. Donald Pogorzelski joined Genzyme in 1988. He is responsible for managing all aspects of the worldwide diagnostics business unit, including Genzyme Virotech in Russelsheim, Germany, the rapid test products in San Diego, California, and facilities in Kent, United Kingdom, and Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mr. Pogorzelski’s initial responsibility at Genzyme was sales and marketing for raw materials for the domestic clinical chemistry market. Prior to joining Genzyme, he held positions in human resources, finance, and sales and marketing at Abbott Laboratories. Gail Sullivan joined Genzyme in 2007. She is responsible for Genzyme's global treasury operations, including corporate financing, cash management, risk management, and investment management.
Prior to joining Genzyme, Ms. Sullivan was vice president and treasurer of The Gillette Company. She has also held various managerial and financial positions at Gillette and at Digital Equipment Corporation.
Ms. Sullivan has an M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and a B.A. from Dartmouth College.
Dr. Yee serves as Vice President, Global Medical Affairs at Genzyme Corporation in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is responsible for overseeing the Gaucher Registry, Fabry Registry, Pompe Registry and MPS-1 Registry, and other post-marketing medical activities in support of Genzyme’s portfolio of enzyme replacement therapies for lysosomal storage disorders.

Patricia A. Fraser, MD, MPH completed her medical education at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, and fellowships at Robert Bent Brigham Hospital. Dr. Fraser is Medical Director, Pharmacovigilance/ Medical Affairs at Genzyme and practices rheumatology at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Dr Fraser is an outstanding and caring physician who cares for many people with lupus. She has a passion for learning why lupus disproportionately affects African American women. She was the recipient of a grant to look into the possible environmental factors that may trigger lupus in Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan and continues to seek answers to how best care for people with this disease. Jim Shuman is Senior Vice President of Materials Management at Genzyme Corporation, one of the world's leading biotechnology companies. Genzyme's products and services help patients in more than 80 countries. The company is focused on rare inherited disorders, kidney disease, orthopedics, cancer, transplant and immune diseases, and diagnostic testing.
Jim joined Genzyme in 1996, and has played a key role in developing the company's materials management organization. He was involved in establishing a global standard for the company's enterprise resource planning system, which is used to run all of Genzyme's manufacturing plants.
In his current role, Jim has global responsibility for the management of the purchasing, distribution, logistics, and planning functions for all of Genzyme's business units. He oversees these functions in 10 manufacturing plants in the U.S. and Europe, and directs a staff of more than 125 people.

John McPherson joined Genzyme in 1989. He directs scientific research programs focused on development and commercialization of cell and protein-based therapeutic products. Before he came to Genzyme, Dr. McPherson was director of protein chemistry at Integrated Genetics. John Butler joined Genzyme in 1997 as product manager for Renagel. His current responsibilities include leading the company's renal, endocrine, and cardiovascular businesses. This includes managing the commercial products Renagel, Renvela, Thyrogen, Hectorol, and Cholestagel as well as the development of Genzyme’s cardiometabolic and renal portfolio.
Mr. Butler has also served as vice president of strategic planning, vice president of Renagel Europe, and senior vice president and general manager of the renal business unit. Prior to joining Genzyme, he worked in sales and marketing at Amgen Inc.
Mr. Butler has an M.B.A. from Baruch College and a B.A. from Manhattan College.

Richard Polisson joined Genzyme in 1997. He manages the corporate clinical trials for programs in osteoarthritis, cartilage repair, tissue engineering, surgical wound repair, transplantation, immune mediated diseases, diagnostics, and neurologic disease. Polisson has formal training in the quantitative methods of clinical investigation, and has 28 years of experience in patient-orientated and translational research in academia, industry and at the National Institutes of Health. Before joining Genzyme, he was Clinical Director of the Arthritis Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School

Charles L. Cooney, Ph.D. is professor of chemical and biochemical engineering in the department of chemical engineering, faculty director of the Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation and co-director of the Program on the Pharmaceutical Industry at MIT.
