Ted W. Hall is an entrepreneur and business leader with extensive operating and consulting experience in technology-related businesses, professional services, financial services, and natural resources. Mr. Hall served for more than 27 years as a leader and operating manager of McKinsey & Company, a leading global consulting firm. He served as an elected member of the McKinsey shareholder committee, which is McKinsey's board of directors, for 12 years. The General Partner of Long Meadow Ranch and President of the associated Long Meadow Ranch Winery in Napa Valley, Mr. Hall also serves as Chairman of Tambourine, Inc., a specialty music production and distribution company. He is Managing Director of Mayacamas Associates, his own consulting firm. He is also a former Chairman of the Board of the Robert Mondavi Corporation, a global producer of fine wines. He has served on the boards of directors of a wide variety of educational and civic organizations, including the Stanford Business School's Advisory Council, and the San Francisco Symphony. A former professional trombonist and record producer, Mr. Hall is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. He holds a BSE in electrical engineering from Princeton University and an MBA from Stanford University.

Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications and Government Affairs Rentech, Inc. Thomas (Tom) Sayles was first elected to the Unified Grocers Board of Directors in 2003. Tom is senior vice president, corporate communication and government affairs for Rentech, Inc., a Colorado-based company offering energy independence solutions utilizing American resources to economically produce ultra-clean fuels. Prior to joining Rentech, Tom was vice president, government and community affairs for San Diego, California-based Sempra Energy. Before Sempra Energy, he served as California's secretary of business transportation and housing and as a member of the cabinet of California Governor Pete Wilson. In that position, he managed numerous state departments, including the Department of Transportation, with a budget in excess of $7 billion and approximately 40,000 employees. Tom has also served on numerous public and private sector boards including California Federal Bank and the University of California Board of Regents.

Dr. Shiftan received his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Virginia and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons respectively. He completed internship, residency, and fellowships in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Shiftan is a founder and trustee of the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center. He is the Medical Director for Oncology at Sharp HealthCare and helped start a number of Sharp programs including Clinical Trials, the collaboration in Bone Marrow Transplantation with UCSD, and the Sharp Breast Center. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology, practicing medicine in California since 1973.

Lee Douglas was a co-founder of COR Therapeutics, Inc. During his 10 years at COR, he served in a number of senior management positions, including COR's original CEO. Since 1998, Mr. Douglas has been an independent consultant to biotechnology companies, including Cytokinetics, Inc and Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He was a member of the founding teams of FivePrime and Portola Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where he continues to serve as an advisor. Mr. Douglas also serves as a member of the board of Affymax, Inc. and Aerovance, Inc. Prior to co-founding COR, he was a general partner in the venture group at Robertson, Stephens & Co, and was involved in the start-up of several companies including Protein Design Labs, Inc. Mr. Douglas is also a Visiting Scholar in the Molecular and Cell Biology Department at University of California at Berkeley, where he conducts independent research on cytoskeletal motor proteins as drug targets in the protozoal parasites Trypanosoma brucei and Leishmania. He received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, MCRP from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and B.A. from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. If his research project makes sufficient progress, he hopes to enter a formal Ph.D. program before he gets too old to complete it.

Board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, critical care, geriatrics and rheumatology, Dr. Ginsburg is the former chief of the Departments of Medicine and Cardiology at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, he holds a MD degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency through the Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center and a fellowship in cardiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles. In private practice in Salinas as an invasive cardiologist and rheumatologist since 1987, Dr. Ginsburg is an assistant professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center and a fellow with the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Rheumatology, the American College of Physicians and the Clinical Council of the American Heart Association. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association and the Monterey County Medical Society.

Daniel Vapnek, PhD, is currently an adjunct professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and has played an influential role in biotechnology in both academics and industry. For 16 years, Dr. Vapnek was the head of research at Amgen, the world's largest biotechnology company. He joined Amgen in 1981 as the director of research when the company had 36 employees, and rose to senior vice president of research by 1988. When he retired in 1997, the company had more than 5,000 employees worldwide and revenues of $2.4 billion. While at Amgen, Dr. Vapnek worked closely with Philip Whitcome, PhD, Amgen's former director of strategic planning and also one of its first employees. Prior to joining Amgen, Dr. Vapnek held a number of positions at the University of Georgia and the Yale University School of Medicine. He was awarded both his BS (1963) and PhD (1968) by the University of Miami in Florida.

Dr. Homcy is President and Chief Executive Officer of Portola Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biotechnology company (since November 2003). He is also a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco Medical School (since 1997) and an attending physician at the San Francisco VA Hospital (since 1997). Dr. Homcy served as Senior Advisor R&D (January 2003 to November 2003) and President of Research and Development (February 2002 to December 2002) of Millennium. Prior to joining Millennium, Dr. Homcy was Executive Vice President, Research and Development (1995 to February 2002) and Director (1998 to February 2002) of COR Therapeutics, Inc., a biotechnology company. He served as President of the Medical Research Division of American Cyanamid Company-Lederle Laboratories, a pharmaceutical company (now a division of Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories) (1994 to March 1995). He is a director of Kosan Biosciences Incorporated, a biotechnology company, Cytokinetics, Incorporated, a biopharmaceutical company, and Geron Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company.

A pioneer in healthcare pharmacy technology, Ron Taylor founded Pyxis Corp. in 1987 as one of the industry's first companies to specialize in integrated software and hardware technology solutions for hospitals and long-term care facilities. He took the venture capital financed company public in 1992 and set a new standard for the safe delivery of drugs and supplies nationwide. Taylor served as Pyxis Chairman and Chief Executive Officer until the firm was purchased by Cardinal Health, Inc. (NYSE: CAH) in 1996 for a record $1 billion. After the sale and transition of Pyxis to Cardinal Health, Taylor spent several years as General Partner at Enterprise Partners Venture Capital. He is currently an independent investor and serves as Board Director for three publicly traded companies, Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NYSE:WPI), ResMed Corporation (NYSE: RMD) and WestCoast Hospitality Corp. (NYSE: WEH). Taylor also serves as Foundation Chair at the University of California, San Deigo and remains Chairman of The Board for three privately held companies, Asteres Inc., 3E Company and EMNS Corporation.

David R. Gandara, MD, is Professor of Medicine at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine and Associate Director of Clinical Research, and Director of Thoracic Oncology at the University of California, Davis Cancer Center. Dr. Gandara is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine specializing in Medical Oncology. He is currently principal investigator for a number of research projects in lung cancer, pharmacology trials at various phases, and Southwest Oncology Group trials. He is the principal investigator for a National Cancer Institute award to the California Cancer Consortium for Early Therapeutic Trials of New Anti-Cancer Agents. Dr. Gandara is an active member of the Scientific Leadership Council in Lung Cancer. Dr. Gandara is chair of the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) Lung Committee, and co-chair of the NCI-directed Investigational Drug Steering Committee. He has written over 300 articles, book chapters, abstracts and editorials. He is editor-in-chief of Clinical Lung Cancer, serves on the editorial board of four oncology journals, and is a manuscript reviewer for eight additional journals. He is President Elect for the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and serves on the board of directors. He also served as secretary-treasurer and a member of the board of directors for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Dr. Gandara is a requested speaker both nationally and internationally. His most recent presentations include Incorporation of Laboratory Correlative Science into Clinical Trial Design and Development of Predictive Biomarkers of Response to Novel Therapeutic Agents. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Dr. Gandara was an intern and resident at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma and a fellow at the Letterman Army Medical Center Presidio of San Francisco.

Deirdre Hanford is Senior Vice President, Global Technical Services at Synopsys, Inc. Her organization's mission is to ensure the successful adoption of the company's technology into customers' demanding environments. Having earned a BSEE from Brown University and an MSEE from U.C. Berkeley, Ms. Hanford joined Synopsys in 1987 and has held a variety of positions, including leadership roles in applications engineering, sales and marketing. In 2001, Ms. Hanford was a recipient of the YWCA Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) Award. That year she also received the Marie R. Pistilli Women in EDA Achievement Award. Frederick R. Ruiz , 65, has been a director of McClatchy since July 1993. Ted joined Hart InterCivic in 2000, bringing with him more than 20 years of financial and general management experience in the computer industry. Prior to joining Hart, Ted served as director of finance and general manager of U.S. operations for Madge Networks, Inc., in London, England. He has also held senior financial and operations management positions at Olicom, Inc. (Richardson, Texas), Becket Corporation (Plano, Texas), and Tandem Computers (Austin and Plano, Texas). G. Steven Burrill has been involved in the growth and prosperity of the biotechnology industry for over 40 years. An early pioneer, Mr. Burrill is one of the original architects of the industry and one of its most avid and sustained developers. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Pharmasset (NASDAQ: VRUS) and is a member of the Boards of Directors of Catalyst Biosciences, DepoMed (NASDAQ: DEPO), Intranasal, Phytomedics, Proteogenix, Proventys, Targacept (NASDAQ: TRGT) and XDx. Prior to founding Burrill & Company in 1994, he spent 28 years with Ernst & Young, directing and coordinating the firm's services to clients in the biotechnology/life sciences/high technology/manufacturing industries worldwide. In 2002, Mr. Burrill was recognized as the biotech investment visionary by the prestigious Scientific American magazine (The Scientific American 50). Mr. Burrill is a founder and currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for the National Medals of Science and Technology. Additionally, he serves as Chairman of the Board on Campaign for Medical Research as well as Chairman of the San Francisco Mayor?s Biotech Advisory Committee (MAYBAC). Other not-for-profit activities include serving on the Boards of Directors for the Bay Area Science Infrastructure Consortium, BayBio, California Healthcare Institute, The Exploratorium, Genetics Policy Institute, The Kellogg Center for Biotechnology, Kramden Institute, The National Health Museum, and Research!America. Dr. Richman is a professor of pathology and medicine at the University of California in San Diego and chief of the virology section and director of the research center for AIDS and HIV infection at VA San Diego Healthcare system. He is also the director of the AIDS research institute and the center for AIDS research at the University of California San Diego. Dr. Richman has made major clinical and laboratory contributions to the field of HIV/AIDS, which represent a model of translational medical research. He helped design and conduct the clinical evaluation of new drugs and treatment strategies, including the first trial of combination antiretroviral therapy and the initial study documenting the value of the strategy of rendering HIV RNA undetectable. Two areas of his laboratory investigations represent landmark studies in HIV research. His laboratory first identified HIV drug resistance. This was the scientific foundation for the development of combination antiretroviral therapies. Subsequent studies documented the impact of drug resistance on treatment failure, the presence of mixtures of different viral phenotypes and genotypes circulating in the same patient, the pre-existence of drug-resistant mutants in untreated patients, the impact of disease stage and viral replication on the rates of viral evolution, and the independent evolution of different populations of HIV in lymphoid tissues and the brain. These studies have had a broad impact on the development, evaluation and regulatory approval of drugs, and helped to establish the importance of drug resistance assays in the day-to-day management of infected patients. His laboratory also documented the existence of reservoirs of latently infected CD4 cells in patients who appeared to be "fully suppressed" on potent antiretroviral therapy. These observations have raised fundamental questions about T lymphocyte biology and viral replication that bridge to a basic understanding of viral pathogenesis. More recently, his laboratory elucidated the remarkable evolution of neutralizing antibody responses in HIV infection, providing important insights for the development of an effective HIV vaccine. He plays an authoritative and constructive role as a speaker on both basic and clinical subjects, a lead editor of the major textbook on clinical virology, organizer of major international meetings and chair of national and international committees.

Bob Duggan is the Founder of the investment firm Robert W. Duggan & Associates. Mr. Duggan has been a private venture investor for more than 30 years and has participated as a director of, investor in and advisor to numerous small and large businesses in the medical equipment, computer local and wide area network, PC hardware and software distribution, digital encryption, consumer retail goods and outdoor media communication industries. Mr. Duggan served as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Computer Motion, Inc., from 1997 until the conclusion of its merger with Intuitive Surgical in June of 2003. Prior to Computer Motion Inc., Mr. Duggan's tenure as a board member of Government Technology Services from 1986 until 1993, during which time GTSI was recognized by INC Magazine as the fifth fastest growing privately held company in America. Mr. Duggan has served as a board member of Chart House Enterprises, Inc., was a Chairman of the board of Metropolis Media and has served as a Chairman of the Board and principal fund raiser for Communication Machinery Corporation (CMC). Before it was sold in July 1988 to Rockwell International, CMC was one of the world's top three ethernet networking companies. Mr. Duggan is a member of the University of California - Santa Barbara Foundation Board of Trustees.

Dennis O'Brien founded O'Brien Homes (formerly O'Brien & Hicks, Inc.) with his late partner Dan Hicks in 1976. The company has built and sold more than 4,000 homes and lots throughout the nine county Bay Area, from Monterey to Napa. From 1969 to 1976, he was president of the San Francisco division of Kaufman & Broad, where he was responsible for the construction of over 5,000 houses. He began his career in 1963 with the California Highway Department (Caltrans) where he handled property acquisition, appraisal and property management in the San Francisco Bay Area. Dennis is a Past President of the California Building Industry Association (1983); a Past Chairman of the Board of the Building Industry Association of Northern California (1977); and President of the Building Industry Association, Eastern Division (1976). He currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Bay Area Council, BRIDGE Housing Corporation, the Construction Industry Advancement Fund, First American Title Company, and The University of California, Berkeley Policy Advisory Board of the Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute.

PEDRO CUATRECASAS, M.D. Dr. Cuatrecasas has served as a director of the Company since August 1996. He has over 35 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Cuatrecasas retired from the positions of Vice President of Warner-Lambert Company and President, Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research on December 31, 1996, positions he had held since 1989. During the previous four years, he had been Senior Vice President of Research and Development and Director of Glaxo, Inc. For the prior ten years, he was Vice President of Research, Development and Medical and Director of Burroughs Wellcome Company. Dr. Cuatrecasas is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine. He is currently an independent consultant in pharmaceutical research and an Adjunct Professor in Medicine and Pharmacology at the University of California in San Diego. He received his M.D. from Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Cuatrecasas qualifies as an "independent" director within the meaning of Rule 4200(a)(15) of the NASD Listing Standards.

Arthur Kavanaugh is Professor of Medicine at The University of California at San Diego, School of Medicine and Director of the Center for Innovative Therapy in UCSD's Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology Department. Dr. Kavanaugh graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri in 1984 and is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Allergy & Immunology. Dr. Kananugh was awarded the ACR's Research and Education Clinician Scholar Educator Award in 2001, and has been a longstanding member of both the American College of Rheumatology and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI). Dr. Kavanaugh has served on an extensive list of committees and currently sits on the ACR's Abstract Review Committeee, Committee on Communications and Marketing and the Editorial Board for Arthritis Care and Research.. Dr. Kavanaugh has contributed over 195 original articles to the scientific literature and is a frequently invited international lecturer. Dr. Kavanaugh actively participates in the clinical training of rheumatology fellows and is involved in multiple therapeutic trials.

Mr. Inman became a director of Wind River in June 1999. He is the founder and General Partner of Inman Investment Management, a private venture capital investment company formed in 1998. Prior to 1998, he cofounded and was General Partner of Inman & Bowman, a venture capital firm formed in 1985. Mr. Inman serves as a director of Lam Research Corporation, a semiconductor equipment manufacturer, and Paychex, Inc., a payroll and human resources outsourcing services company; and he is a trustee of the University of California, Berkeley Foundation. Mr. Inman holds a BA in economics from the University of Oregon and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.

In his role, Mr. Khalifa is responsible for all corporate financial activities including accounting and audit, financial planning and analysis, investor relations and treasury. He was most recently Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Apria Healthcare Group, Inc., a provider of home healthcare services through more than 500 branches in 50 states. He previously served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of laboratory equipment manufacturer Beckman Coulter, Inc., and the Chief Financial Officer of the Agricultural Sector of Monsanto, a life sciences company. Mr. Khalifa served as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer for Aetna Health Plans and as Senior Vice President, Strategy and Investor Relations for Aetna, Inc. and received his early financial training at PepsiCo, Inc. where he held a succession of senior financial management and operating positions in both U.S. and international assignments. Mr. Khalifa graduated from Lehigh University with both a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering and a Master of Business Administration in finance. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for PetSmart, Inc., is a member of the University of California at Irvine Corporate Partners Advisory Council and is a member of the Board of Directors of Project Tomorrow.

Jeffrey M. Gault is one of our Directors. Since August 2007, Mr. Gault has served as the Chief Executive Officer of LandCap Partners, a national residential land company. He previously served as Division President of KB Urban, a division of KB Home, from September 2005 to June 2007. His more than 30 years of experience in real estate development and investment activities also includes senior positions with Empire Companies, a Southern California land developer, where he was President and Chief Operating Officer from May 2002 to March 2005; Helios Partners, an affiliate of the Pritzker family interests of Chicago, where he was managing partner from 1994 to 1998; Sun America Realty Partners, an affiliate of Sun America, Inc., where he was managing principal from 1990 to 1994; and Home Savings of America, F.A., where he was Executive Vice President and Director of Real Estate from 1985 to 1990. Mr. Gault earned a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley and has a Master's Degree in Environmental Design from Yale University's School of Architecture. Mr. Gault is a licensed architect and general building contractor in the State of California, a member of the American Institute of Architects, American Institute of Certified Planners, and Urban Land Institute, and the Chairman of the University of California at Berkeley Fisher Center for Urban Economics and Real Estate Policy Advisory Board.

Mr. Portela brings more than 20 years of health care IT sales and marketing experience to GCQ. Mr. Potela served as a vice president of strategic initiatives for Patient Care Technology Systems (PCTS). During his tenure, he was responsible for establishing partnerships with prestigious medical centers such as Albert Einstein Medical Center, and St. John's Episcopal. Prior to PCTS, Mr. Portela served as senior vice president of client relations for CliniComp International Inc., where he was responsible for sales and marketing, account management/implementation services and special projects. As the head of client relations, Mr. Portela was responsible for the support of approximately 35 hospital-wide installations, representing 10,000 beds worldwide. As vice president of sales and marketing, Mr. Portela was directly responsible for the selection of CliniComp by the Department of Defense as the sole provider of its inpatient clinical modules to military medical facilities. Prior to joining CliniComp, Mr. Portela was vice president of sales and marketing for Systran Systems Inc., a San Diego based provider of computerized natural language software.

Peter has been successfully managing companies since 1968, when he started American Analysis Corp. Since that time he has lead two other thriving start up operations, as well as head a successful turnaround project. He has provided detailed consulting services for large business and government clients. He has been a member of the faculty at University of California - Berkeley and University of Southern California and was a pioneer in using technology for self-paced, mastery learning. Peter has over twenty years experience in all aspects of human performance improvement. With years of broad business and management experience, he has been tapped on two separate occasions to be CEO and once to lead a struggling company through a successful turnaround effort.

Dr. Kenneth A. Pickar has served as a member of our board since August 9, 2005. Dr. Pickar has served as a board member of Neustar Corporation since 1999 and of H2Scan LLC, since January 2005. He has served on the executive committee of Tech Coast Angels (LA) since 2001 and of the operating committee of Idealab since 2004. From 1997 to 1999, Dr. Pickar served on the board of directors of Level One Corporation, which was traded on Nasdaq prior to the company s sale to Intel Corporation. Previously, Dr. Pickar held executive, research and development and technology positions with corporations including AlliedSignal Aerospace, General Electric Corporate Research and Development, Signetics Corporation, Bell Northern Research and Bell Laboratories. In addition to his extensive business experience, Dr. Pickar has been, since 1998, a visiting professor of Mechanical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology, where he served as the J. Stanley Johnson Professor from 1999 to 2003. He is also a visiting lecturer at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Anderson School of Management. Dr. Pickar holds a bachelor of science degree, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in physics and mathematics from City University of New York, and a master s degree and doctorate of Physics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Raz is an immunologist whose research on immunostimulatory DNA sequences forms the basis of Dynavax's technology platform. Dr. Raz has been an associate professor of medicine at the University of California, San Diego since 1996, and an assistant research immunologist at that institution since 1993. Prior to that time, he was employed at Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel as assistant professor of medicine in 1989 and senior physician, Department of Medicine in 1988. He received his M.D. degree from the Hebrew University, Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, Israel.

Dr. Bennett is the Executive Director of the Office of Technology Transfer at the University of California. His research interests include: the molecular biology of tomato fruit development and ripening; the molecular basis of membrane transport; and cell wall disassembly. James H. Carr is senior vice president of Research for the Fannie Mae Foundation, which is the largest foundation in the country devoted to increasing the supply of homes for those who need them the most, and a visiting professor of urban planning at Columbia University. He is responsible for the Foundation's housing finance and neighborhood strategies consulting unit, its nationally and internationally recognized Office of Housing Research, and its program evaluation activities. He is also responsible for the development of technology tools to promote effective community investment. Prior to his appointment to the Foundation, Carr served as vice president for housing research at Fannie Mae, assistant director for tax policy with the U.S. Senate Budget Committee, and research associate at the Center for Urban Policy Research at Rutgers University. He serves on research or policy advisory boards at numerous colleges and universities including Harvard University, University of California-Berkeley, and University of Pennsylvania. Carr is an Advisory Committee member of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco Center for Community Development Investments and serves on the Board of Directors of the American Real Estate Society. He is a also a frequent instructor for the Neighborhood Reinvestment Training Institute and a former expert advisor to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Urban Affairs Project Group in Paris, France. Carr has published and lectured extensively on housing and urban policy, housing finance, community reinvestment, personal financial services, and state and local finance. He has also written and presented on issues of technological innovation and workforce diversity. Carr is widely recognized for his leadership in developing innovative financial instruments, devising strategies to promote affordable lending, encouraging inner-city development, and promoting wealth creation for lower-income households. Carr is editor of Housing Policy Debate, which received the 1996 Award of Excellence from Washington EdPress for editorial excellence. His books include Crisis and Constraint in Municipal Finance, The New Reality of Municipal Finance, and Replicating Microfinance in the United States. Carr's speeches have been awarded top honors, including the "Best of the Best" award, the "Award of Excellence", and the "Award of Merit" by the International Association of Business Communicators. He has also been published in Vital Speeches of the Day. He is an Aspen Institute Scholar and has earned numerous professional and academic honors including the Community Impact Award from the National Organization of Black County Officials, a Distinguished Service Award from Texas Southern University, the Presidential Award by the National Association of Urban Bankers, and an Outstanding Achievement Award by the Neighborhood Reinvestment Training Institute. Carr holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree with honors from Hampton University, a Master of Urban Planning degree from Columbia University, and a Master of City and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania.

Harold Heady, an internationally-known range scientist and consultant, received his bachelor's degree in range management from the University of Idaho in 1938. Heady is emeritus professor of the University of California; charter member and past president of the Society for Range Management and author of "Rangeland Management," a major text used internationally for range management education. A native of Buhl, Heady traveled to New York State College of Forestry, and received a master's degree in 1940. He earned his doctorate in 1948 from the University of Nebraska. During his undergraduate years at UI, Heady was a member of the Associated Foresters, an inductee into Xi Sigma Pi, and an Idaho Forester staff member. In 1938, he won the UI College of Forestry Senior Award. Heady has authored and co-authored more than 150 journal articles and is listed in National Leaders of American Conservation. He is the recipient of two Fulbright Scholarships and the SRM Certificate of Merit. In 1986, Heady received the college's Honor Alumnus Award.

Daniel Blumenthal is the Associate Director for the Center on Multidisciplinary Optical Switching (MOST) and Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California . Santa Barbara. His current research areas are in optical communications, photonic packet switched and all-optical networks, all-optical wavelength conversion, optical subcarrier multiplexing, integrated-optic chip scale WDM and nanophotonic technologies; he has authored or co-authored more than 100 papers in these and related areas. In 1981, he worked at StorageTek of Louisville, CO, in the area of optical data storage. From 1986 to 1988, he worked at Columbia University in the areas of photonic switching and ultra-fast all-optical networks. From 1993 to 1997, he was Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Blumenthal is recipient of a 1999 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) from the White House and the Department of Defense, a 1994 National Science Foundation Young Investigator (NYI) and a 1997 Office of Naval research Young Investigator (YIP) Award.

Gregory M. Spierkel Chief Executive Officer As the chief executive officer of Ingram Micro Inc., the world’s leading technology distributor, Gregory M.E. Spierkel heads a dynamic organization employing 15,000 associates in 34 countries. He became CEO on June 1, 2005. Prior to his promotion to CEO, Spierkel served as corporate president, Ingram Micro Inc., from March 2004 to April 2005. He was responsible for Ingram Micro’s overall operating performance with particular focus on the company’s Europe and Asia-Pacific regions. During that time, he led the company’s acquisition of Tech Pacific, which was the largest acquisition in company history, and significantly strengthened Ingram Micro’s presence in Asia-Pacific. During his tenure with the company, Spierkel has also held the positions of executive vice president of Ingram Micro Inc. and president, Ingram Micro Europe, where he led the transformation of the region into a best-in-class performer, delivering sales and operating margins at historic highs. Under his leadership, Europe consolidated operations in the Nordic countries, integrated a major acquisition in Germany, and instituted processes that are having a lasting, positive impact on the region. Spierkel joined Ingram Micro in August 1997 as president, Ingram Micro Asia-Pacific, and was instrumental in setting up the company in Asia with the acquisition of Electronic Resources Limited, Singapore. With more than 29 years of broad-based experience in global operations management, Spierkel has managed other complex and large-scale operations throughout the world. Prior to joining Ingram Micro, Spierkel spent 11 years at Canada-based Mitel Corp., a multinational manufacturer of leading PBX, software and semiconductor products. He held a variety of executive management positions there, including senior vice president of global sales and marketing. He was president of Mitel Inc. in Reston, Va. for four years, managing director of Mitel Telecom in the United Kingdom with responsibilities over Europe and Asia, and general manager of Mitel Far East Ltd. in Hong Kong, where he orchestrated the integration of an acquired subsidiary. Spierkel holds a master’s degree in business administration from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. He also attended the Advanced Manufacturing Program at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. He currently sits on the Dean’s Advisory Board of the School of Business for University of California, Irvine, is a member on the Board of Counselors, George L. Argyros School of Business at Chapman University in Orange, California and is a member of the Board of Directors for PACCAR Inc.

Chetkovich was equally concerned with accounting's good name. While chairman of the AICPA in 1978, he remarked, "The AICPA, the FASB, and the public accounting firms are working hard to respond to the demands of our critics whilea "and this is vitala "at the same time ensuring that the changes brought about by these responses do not compromise the high standards of ethics and service that have been the hallmark of the profession." Chetkovich's contributions to the profession were noted by the AICPA, which awarded him its highest honor, the Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession. A native of Angels Camp, CA, and an outstanding student at the University of California, Chetkovich was awarded the Forbes Medal for scoring the highest grades on the CPA exam in the state of California. World War II had just broken out, so he spent the next four years in the Navy. He joined a California accounting firm that merged with Haskins & Sells in 1952. Chetkovich was named partner-in-charge of the San Francisco office in 1965 and moved to the firm's National Office in 1967.

In addition to serving as the CFO of IOS, he also serves as CEO of OpTech Ventures, and the Chairman of OptiSense LLC. He is presently serving as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors for NTS, President of Smithway Associates, Inc., Director and CFO of the National Osteoporosis Institute, and Director of Innapharma. William T. Comer, Ph.D., has been a director of TorreyPines since 2000. From 1991 to 1999, Dr. Comer served as President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director of SIBIA Neurosciences, Inc., a company focusing on drug discovery and the development of neurodegenerative disease therapeutics, which was acquired by Merck & Co. From 1961 to 1981, he was a scientist at Mead Johnson & Co., including Vice President of Research. From 1982 to 1990, Dr. Comer served in various capacities at Bristol-Meyers including President of Research and Licensing. From 1990 to 1991 he was Senior Vice President, Strategic Management for Bristol-Myers Squibb. Dr. Comer has served on the board of the University of California San Diego Foundation since 1993 and the board of the La Jolla Institute of Molecular Medicine since 2000. Dr. Comer received a B.A. in chemistry from Carleton College, and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry and pharmacology from the University of Iowa.

Dr. Maibach is a recognized expert in the field of Dermatology, and specifically, dermatopharmacology and dermatotoxicology. Dr. Maibach has published over 1700 articles on various dermatology-related subjects, and is a frequent lecturer on various subjects related to dermatology. Dr. Maibach is currently a professor in the Department of Dermatology, School of Medicine, at the University of California in San Francisco.

Dr. Koshland has been eSpeed s director since November 7, 2007. Dr. Koshland has been the Vice-Provost of Academic Planning and Facilities at the University of California, Berkeley since April 2004, a Professor of Environmental Health Sciences in the School of Public Health and a Professor in the Energy and Resources Group since 1997 and the Wood-Calvert Professor in Engineering since 1995. She joined the Berkeley faculty in 1984. Dr. Koshland served as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Berkeley Division, Academic Senate from 2002 to 2003 and from 2001 to 2002, respectively. From 1994 to 2006, Dr. Koshland was a director of the Combustion Institute. Since 2001, Dr. Koshland has served as a member of the Integrated Human Exposure Committee of the EPA s Science Advisory Board. From 1998 to 2002, Dr. Koshland served on the California Air Resources Board Research Screening Committee and currently serves as Associate Director of the University of California, Berkeley Superfund Basic Research Program. Dr. Michael L. Fischman is a physician board certified in Occupational Medicine and Internal Medicine. With over 25 years of practice, he is currently the President and Consulting Physician in Occupational Medicine/Toxicology for the Fischman Occupational and Environmental Medical Group. Dr. Fischman serves as a consultant to a variety of industries and as a medical-legal consultant and expert witness in Toxicology and Occupational & Environmental Medicine. He is also an Associate Clinical Professor and Assistant Chief at the University of California, San Francisco Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Dr. Fischman is a member of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the Western Occupational and Environmental Medical Association (WOEMA), the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), the Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association (ACCMA), the California Medical Association (CMA), the International Congress on Occupational Health (ICOH), the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology (AACT), and the Society for Occupational and Environmental Health (SOEH).

Dr Joseph Leung is currently the Mr & Mrs C W Law Professor of Medicine at the University of California, Davis and Chief of Gastroenterology for the Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System. He graduated as Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Hong Kong in 1975 and obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1986. After his postgraduate training with Dr. Peter Cotton at the Middlesex Hospital, he joined the Prince of Wales Hospital, CUHK in 1983. He set up the combined endoscopy unit for the hospital and introduced live demonstration endoscopy teaching in Asia. In October 1991, he relocated to the United States was appointed Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina and Chief of Endoscopy at the Durham VA Medical Center. In 1994, he joined the University of California, Davis Medical Center as Chief of Gastroenterology where he served in that position for 7 years. The GI service at UC Davis was recognized in the top 40 GI programs in the US. He is currently Chief of Gastroenterology for the VA Northern California Health Care System. Dr. Leung was nominated the Alberta Heritage Foundation Visiting Scientist at the University of Calgary, Canada in 1988. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh in 1989, Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow in 1991 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 1994. He was awarded Fellowship of the American College of Physicians in 1996. He was appointed visiting professor to a number of universities in the Philippines, Korea, China as well as the US. He is currently the Governor for the American College of Gastroenterology for Northern California and Regional Councilor for the ACG Region V.

Ellen Moir is Executive Director of the New Teacher Center (NTC) at the University of California, Santa Cruz, a national resource for high quality new teacher and new administrator induction programs. The NTC conducts research, develops and administers induction programs, and consults with organizations, educational leaders, and policy makers throughout the U.S. on issues related to new educator support. Ellen has also served for fifteen years as Director of the Santa Cruz New Teacher Project, a beginning teacher induction program that has supported more than 12,000 beginning teachers during the first two years of their careers. From 1985 to 2000, she was UCSC Director of Teacher Education. Ellen is recognized throughout the state and nation for her work in beginning teacher development. In 2003, she received the California Council on Teacher Education Distinguished Teacher Educator Award. She has recently addressed issues of new teacher support at the conferences of the National Governor s Association, National Board for Professional Teacher Standards, American Educational Research Association, and National Staff Development Council. Recent journal publications include articles for Educational Leadership, Journal of Staff Development, Teacher Education Quarterly, and Chief State School Officers Council Newsletter. Ellen has authored several book chapters related to induction and produced video documentaries on teacher induction and bilingual education. Her induction work has been supported by fifteen private foundations and by the National Science Foundation. She is a passionate advocate for investing in teacher quality and equitable learning opportunities for all students.

Mike J. Furlong, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Graduate School of Education at the University of California Santa Barbara and program leader of the Counseling/Clinical/School Psychology program. After serving as a field-based school psychologist for more than 10 years, he has been active in research and program development related to school safety, school violence, and anger management in youth. He was one of the lead authors of the 1989 California Department of Education's publication, "Safe Schools": A Planning Guide for Action." In addition, he has edited two journal issues on the topic of school violence and is an editor of a forthcoming issue of Psychology in the Schools that examines the topic of assessing violence potential in students. Dr. Furlong is a past-president of the California Association of School Psychologists and is currently an Associate Editor of Psychology in the Schools and The California School Psychologist.

Daniel Headrick M.D. is the Medical Director and Co Founder of the Pacific Coast Recovery Center. Unlike most treatment center Medical Directors, Dr. Headrick does not maintain a private practice but instead dedicates all of his time to the care and treatment of the patients of Pacific Coast Recovery Center. This unique commitment of time establishes a standard of care that is rarely matched in any other treatment setting. As Medical Director, Dr. Headrick oversees the treatment of more than 800 patients per year, managing their withdrawal from alcohol and other substances. He provides a very individualized approach, including acupuncture, lectures, and counseling. He tailors treatment strategies to each patient, based upon their coexisting medical conditions, types of drugs to which they are addicted, length of addiction, and emotional well being. Active in the community, Dr. Headrick frequently lectures on drugs and addiction and pain and addiction to audiences as diverse as school students, physician groups, treatment professionals, church groups, business executives, and medical students at University of California, Irvine Medical School. Dr. Headrick received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles Medical School. He had a solo family practice for 15 years. Dr. Headrick is further distinguished by his post graduate certification from the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) in 1988. Prior to opening the Pacific Coast Recovery Center, Dr. Headrick was the Medical Director of the Hoag Hospital Chemical Dependency Center for 11 years. He has also served as Medical Director of the Chemical Dependency Unit at Charter Hospital in Corona California and the primary attending physician at the former Genesis Program at South Coast Medical Center. In addition to his position as Medical Director of the Pacific Coast Recovery Center, Dr. Headrick is an associate professor at the University of California, Irvine Medical School.

David Duer, a long-time resident of Richmond, comes to AC5 with 30 years' experience in non-profit management and development. He is currently Director of Development and External Relations for the University Library at the University of California in Berkeley. Prior to this position, he held the positions of Chief Development Officer for the UC Davis Health System and Associate Director of College Relations for the UC Berkeley College of Engineering.

Gary L. Firestone, Ph.D. is Professor of Cell & Developmental Biology, University of California, Berkeley, Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. He is also the Program Director of the Cancer Biology Pre-doctoral and Post-doctoral Training Program at the University of California, Berkeley Cancer Research Laboratory. Dr. Firestone specializes in cell signaling pathways that inhibit the uncontrolled growth of epithelial-derived tumor cells. In his lab, molecular, genetic and cell biological experimental strategies are being utilized to explore the mechanisms by which extracellular signals such as steroid hormones, growth factors and certain dietary compounds coordinately regulate the proliferation and cell-cell interactions of reproductive tumor cells.

Greg?s greatest desire is to see God glorified in the hearts of people. Greg works as a Religious Director at the University of California, a mentor and coach to High School students. Also, He is a Discipler and Life Coach of leaders across the country. Greg spent 6 years in campus ministry at Ball State University in Indiana. Greg moved to Los Angeles with a passion for church-planting and community development. Greg has been in ministry for 10 years with backgrounds in Architecture and Communications. He has been active in missions and church-planting. He took active roles in planting churches in Southern Illinois, University of Arizona, and Torino, Italy. Currently, Greg is pursuing a Masters in Organizational Development with Pepperdine University. Greg is married to Julie, an amazing High School math teacher in the LA schools.

Gretchen Kalonji is Director of International Strategy Development for the University of California. In this position her responsibility is to lead in the design and implementation of the first coordinated and comprehensive international strategy for the ten-campus UC system, vital to keeping the university competitive in the future and to enhancing its role as a driver of economic progress. Kalonji came to the UC Office of the President in 2005 from the University of Washington, where she served as Kyocera Professor of Materials Science. Prior to joining the UW in 1990, Kalonji served as Assistant and Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT, where she earned her B.Sc. degree in 1980 and her Ph.D in 1982. At the UC, Kalonji has worked with faculty and administrators from throughout the system to launch several large-scale initiatives, including the "10+10" program with Chinese partners.

Ishwarlal Jialal, MD, PhD, DABCC, FACB, is the Robert E. Stowell Endowed Chair in Experimental Pathology, director of the laboratory for atherosclerosis and metabolic research, and professor of pathology and internal medicine at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. He is internationally recognized for his research, which has focused on free radical biology and antioxidants in disease, lipid biochemistry and atherosclerosis, diabetic macrovascular disease, and inflammation.

John R. Laird is Professor of Medicine and Director of the Clinical Vascular Program at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. Dr. Laird moved to UC Davis after spending 10 years at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. While there he served as the Director of Peripheral Vascular Interventions at the Cardiovascular Research Institute and as the Co-Director of the Center for Vascular Care at the Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Laird is a leader in the field of peripheral vascular intervention and has published extensively on the subject. He has served as the Principal Investigator for several important clinical trials and has lectured internationally on a variety of topics related to endovascular interventions. His research interests include new stents for peripheral vascular applications, laser angioplasty, carotid artery intervention and embolic protection, stent-grafts for the treatment of abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms, gene therapy/therapeutic angiogenesis, and Cryoplasty.

Peter Otto studied violoncello from an early age, completing undergraduate studies before undertaking composition at CalArts with Morton Subotnick and Mel Powell. Otto taught and managed the Electronic Music Studios at CalArts after completing the MFA. In Los Angeles, he was director of audio for numerous festivals including New Music America and the 1984 Olympic Arts Festival. In 1987, he became Director of Technology at Tempo Reale in Florence, working as Luciano Berio's assistant, as technical producer, and hardware/software developer. In 1990, Otto joined the faculty at SUNY Buffalo as Associate Professor of Composition where he taught as well as conducted research. Since 1994, he has been Music Technology Director at the University of California, San Diego, where he is active as an administrator, educator, designer, research coordinator and as a Center for Research and Computing in the Arts (CRCA) resident researcher. Current projects involve the areas of sound spatialization, media network design, and interdisciplinary computing.

Robin Knuttel MD is the medical director of Sonoma Skin as well as Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. She graduated from Seton Hall University magna cum laude in 1981, with a BS in Biology where she was awarded the Biology Medal as the top-graduating student. She did her dermatology training at the University of California, Davis. During her third year of residency, she received the Women's Dermatologic Society Mentorship Grant and did a mentorship in hair and nail diseases at the University of California, San Francisco. She did her dermatology training at the University of California, Davis. After completing her residency in 1997 she joined the dermatology faculty of the University of California, Davis. At the same time, she joined the Telemedicine Department as a Teledermatologist. She continued in this position until 2001 when she decided to pursue her interest in cosmetic dermatology. She joined the Division of Plastic Surgery at the UCDavis Medical Group. It was at that time that she became skilled in cosmetic procedures like BOTOX , collagen, Restylane , chemical peels, dermabrasion, laser therapies, microdermabrasion, Obagi Skin Care, & sclerotherapy. As a UCDMC faculty physician, she participated in the Leadership Excellence Program sponsored by the UC Davis Women's Center for Health in 2001. Dr. Knuttel is board certified in dermatology and was previously board certified in internal medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Lasers in Medicine & Surgery as well as a member of the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the Council for Nail Disorders, and the Women's Dermatologic Society. She continues to teach medical students about acne, hair and nail biology, cosmetic dermatology and has authored articles and abstracts on lichen sclerosus of the vulva, hair loss, dermabrasion, teledermatology & clinical dermatology in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Johnston is the Director of the Stroke Service at the University of California, San Francisco, where he is Professor of Neurology and Epidemiology. He received his undergraduate education at Amherst College and completed medical school at Harvard University. He received a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Johnston has published extensively in the prevention and treatment of stroke and transient ischemic attack. He is perhaps best known for his studies describing the short-term risk of stroke in patients with transient ischemic attack and identifying patients at greatest risk, and also for his work related to measuring the impact of research. He has led several large cohort studies of cerebrovascular disease and two multicenter randomized trials. Dr. Johnston is the Executive Vice Editor of the Annals of Neurology and has served on the editorial boards of several other journals. He has been honored previously with the American Academy of Neurology's Pessin Prize for Stroke Leadership, the American Stroke Association's Siekert New Investigator Award and the Feinberg Award for Clinical Stroke Excellence.

Dr. A. Sydney Williams, a San Francisco native and son of the late Fred C. Williams, MD (also an ophthalmologist), has been in private practice since 1992. He has been a board certified ophthalmologist since 1989 and specializes in glaucoma diagnosis and treatment and surgery for glaucoma and cataracts. He graduated from Howard Medical School in Washington, DC, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society for academic achievement. Residency in Ophthalmology was undertaken at the University of California in San Francisco. Following residency he trained in the subspecialty of glaucoma at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary at Harvard Medical School in Boston. After training, he accepted an academic appointment at the Stanford University Medical School Department of Ophthalmology, where he became director of the glaucoma program and also directed the residency program. He left Stanford in 1992 to open his private practice in San Mateo and Mountain View, California. In 2000, he left Mountain View for a practice in San Francisco while continuing in the San Mateo practice. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California in San Francisco in the Department of Ophthalmology. He is one of the premier glaucoma surgeons in the Bay Area. Dr. Williams is fluent in Spanish and conversational in French. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Glaucoma Society, and past president of the Cordes Eye Society.

Ackbar Abbas is a professor of comparative literature at University of California, Irivine. His research interests include globalization, Hong Kong and Chinese culture, architecture, cinema, postcolonialism, and critical theory.

Alan Tillotson Ph.D., D.AY., AHG: Dr. Tillotson holds a Master's degree in Asian Medical Systems, and a Ph.D. in Integrative Health Sciences. He earned a second doctorate from the Jin Shan School of Taoist Meditation, and is a diplomat in Ayurvedic Health Science. He has been practicing herbal medicine for over fifteen years, is a professional member of the American Herbalists Guild, for two years was guest faculty at Jefferson Medical University's alternative medicine course, and is an advisor to the Dos Pueblos Medicinal Plant project at the University of California (Santa Barbara). He works as a formulator for the natural foods industry. He also teaches T'ai Chi, Chi Kung and meditation classes, and maintains a research library in natural medicine clinical applications from around the world. He is the author of the Handbook of Ayurvedic Medicine (1985) and the 600 page textbook for laypersons and professionals entitled The One Earth Herbal Sourcebook.

Dr. Skabardonis is a nationally recognized expert in traffic flow theory, traffic management and control systems, modeling and simulation of traffic operations, design and operation of transportation facilities, intelligent transportation systems, energy and environmental impacts of transportation facilities. He is an Adjunct Professor and Research Engineer at the University of California and a Research Scientist with Dowling Associates. He has worked extensively in the development and application of models and techniques for traffic control, performance analysis of highway facilities and applications of advanced technologies to transportation. He has served as Principal Researcher for 40 extra murally funded contracts and grants totaling over $8M, and has published over 130 papers and technical reports. He is a co-developer of the California Freeway Performance Measurement System (PeMS) and the Berkeley Highway Laboratory. Skabardonis has also developed and taught several workshops on traffic management, control systems and traffic modeling and analysis attended by about 500 transportation professionals. He is a member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB), Traffic Flow Theory Committee, a Subcommittee member in the TRB Committees of Highway Capacity and Quality of Service, and Traffic Signal Systems. He serves on the editorial board of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Journal, and as a reviewer for several transportation journals.

After receiving his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from U.C. Berkeley 1954, Dr. Shulgin went on to work as a research director at BioRad Laboratories and a research chemist at the Dow Chemical Company. He is the author of approximately 200 scientific papers, 20 patents, and 20 book chapters. He has also authored four books: Controlled Substances (1988), PIHKAL (1991), and TIHKAL (1997), and Simple Isoquinolines (2002). Dr. Shulgin now works as a scientific consultant for such clients as the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the Drug Enforcement Administration, NASA, Bristol Laboratories, and the University of California. He is also a member of the CCLE's Board of Advisors.

Ali Akbar Khan is a name that is virtually synonymous with the sarod. He is one of the first people to take the instrument into the international arena. This is due to his untiring efforts as a performer and an educator. He was born in 1922 in Bengal, in a region that is now Bangladesh. He began his musical training at the age of three under his father, the legendary Allauddin Khan. He also began to learn percussion under his uncle Fakir Aftabuddin. He studied voice and a number of instruments before settling on the sarod. He continued to learn from his father until his father passed away in 1972. His professional career hs been very rich. His first public performance was in Allahabad in at the age of 13. He made his first recording when he was only in his 20s. As a young man he was made the court musician to the Maharaja of Jodhpur. He retained this position however for only three years; his service came to an end with the death of the Maharaja. Ali Akbar made his first trip to the United States in 1955. This tour was one of the factors that would lead to the popular acceptance of Indian music during the 1960s. It is said that his TV performance during this period was the first public broadcast of Indian music in the US. Ali Akbar's long career has been rich indeed. He has performed and composed music for numerous films. Two notable ones are Satyajit Ray's "Devi", and Bernardo Bertolucci's "Little Buddha". He has also received numerous awards, titles, and honorary degrees. Notable among them are honorary doctorates from, New England Conservatory of Music, Viswa Bharati University, California Institute of the Arts, University of Delhi, University of Dacca, Rabindra Bharati University. He also has numerous Grammy nominations. He is a tireless educator. He established the Ali Akbar College of Music in Calcutta in 1956. In the 1960s he established a branch in Marin County in California. Ali Akbar also regularly teaches in Switzerland. He is a distinguished Adjunct Professor of Music at the University of California in Santa Cruz.

Allan has been involved in disabled sports (basketball, tennis, cycling and monoskiing) since a very young age and currently volunteers at the Adaptive Snowsports School in Lake Tahoe. He is a college administrator at the University of California and has previously served on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross and United Way.

Allan is a recognized expert in internetworking design and implementation. He was previously the Chief Technology Officer and Vice-President of Engineering for Telegis Networks, Inc. Prior to Telegis Networks, he was Chief Technology Officer and Vice-President of Internetwork Engineering at Digital Island. Allan joined Digital Island as the first employee of Internetwork Engineering and grew this team to over 120 individuals in multiple geographies. He led teams to build 6 global data centers, a global IP infrastructure that spanned 21 countries and over 17 Gigabits of Internet capacity, and co-invented U.S. Patent 6,130,890, A Method and System For Optimizing Routing of Data Packets. Allan participated in five rounds of private financing, raising a total of over $80 million, led technical due diligence for an Initial Public Offering ($67M) and a Secondary Public Offering ($680M). He was a Director of the company and served on the Board of Directors from February 1997 to April 2000. Before Digital Island, Allan served as Manager of Consulting Engineering at Cisco Systems where he designed and deployed global internetworks for large corporations, governments and institutions. In this capacity he relied on his expansive knowledge of Cisco products, including access servers, switches, and routing products, and his strong knowledge of all relevant networking technologies. Before Cisco, Allan spent three years at Hewlett-Packard as a network designer and implementation engineer. Both at Cisco and Hewlett-Packard, he was instrumental in the creation of industry-standard network-management platforms. Allan is the co-author of the books Network Management: A Practical Perspective, 2nd Edition and Cisco Router Configuration: A Practical Introduction to Cisco IOS Configuration, 2nd edition. He instructs at the University of California-Berkeley in the Telecommunications Certificate Program as Associate Professor on the topics of computer networks, network management, and network design.

Dr. Iwach is an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California at San Francisco and a faculty instructor at the California Pacific Medical Center Department of Ophthalmology. He has served on the GRF Board since 2000. He also serves as Board Treasurer and is a member of GRFa s Executive Committee.

Michael A. Mussallem, age 55, has been chairman and CEO since 2000. Prior to 2000, Mussallem held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility in engineering, product development and senior management at Baxter International Inc., including Group Vice President of its CardioVascular business from 1994 to 2000 and Group Vice President of the Biopharmaceutical business from 1998 to 2000. From 1996 until 1998, he was the Chairman of Baxter's Asia Board overseeing Baxter's operations throughout Asia. Mussallem received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and was conferred an honorary doctorate by his alma mater in 1999. Mussallem is chairman of the board of directors of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), and serves as a member of the board for Advanced Medical Optics, Inc. He is also on the boards and executive committees of the California Healthcare Institute and OCTANe, and is a trustee of the University of California, Irvine Foundation. He received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1974 and an honorary doctorate in 1999 from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.
