The company has revenue of about $7.7 billion and employs almost 130,000 people. It manufactures and sells a broad range of steel products, including hot and cold rolled sheets and coils, galvanised sheets, electrical sheets, structurals, railway products, plates, bars and rods, stainless steel and other alloy steels. In addition, it makes other non-steel products such as ferro alloys, coal-based chemicals, tar products, and fertilizers. The company produces product for domestic construction, engineering, power, railway, automotive and defense industries. The Government of India owns about 86% of SAIL's equity and retains voting control of the Company. However, SAIL, by virtue of its 'Navratna' status, enjoys significant operational and financial autonomy.
