BioMS Medical is a Canadian biotech company engaged in the development and commercialization of novel therapeutic technologies with emphasis on the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). BioMS Medical has obtained an exclusive worldwide license to a proprietary technology developed at the MS Patient Care and Research Clinic at the University of Alberta for the treatment of MS. The technology, dirucotide (MBP8298), is a synthetic myelin basic protein peptide comprised of 17 amino acids which is intravenously injected (every six months) into MS patients as a therapeutic treatment. BioMS is currently conducting three late-stage clinical trials and one open-label trial for dirucotide (MBP8298):

Dr. Leonard (Len) I. Wiebe, BSP, MSc is Professor of Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry, in Pharmacy, at the University of Alberta. He holds secondary appointments, as Adjunct Professor in Experimental Oncology (Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, U. Alberta), Research Associate (Oncological Imaging; Cross Cancer Institute, Edmonton), and Honorary Liaison Professor (People's University of Bangladesh). He is an Editor of Applied Radiation and Isotopes, and J Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. During his academic career at the University of Alberta, Professor Wiebe served as Assistant (1985-1988) and Associate Dean (1990-1999) of Graduate Studies and Research (Pharmacy), Founding Director of the Noujaim Institute for Pharmaceutical Oncology Research (1994-1999), Chair of the U. Alberta SLOWPOKE Reactor Committee (1974-1989), and Director of the SLOWPOKE Nuclear Reactor Facility (1977-1989). He was Director of Biomedicine and Health, Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (Ansto) (Sydney, Australia) in 1990.

Dr. Warren is currently Professor of Medicine (Neurology) at the University of Alberta, and Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Patient Care and Research Clinic, Department of Medicine. He graduated with a Bachelor degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1968. He received his M.D. (Magna cum Laude) in 1972, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Canada) in 1976. Dr. Warren has been listed among the Best Physicians of North America on both the Who's Who of North America and International Who's Who for Professionals lists. He is credited with several medical discoveries related to herpes simplex virus and multiple sclerosis. In particular, Dr. Warren made several discoveries specific to the myelin basic protein (MBP) and the inhibition of anti-myelin basic protein in cerebrospinal fluid of people with chronic progressive multiple sclerosis. Dr. Warren's work on the development and administration of selected human MBP synthetic peptides to neutralize the progress of multiple sclerosis has been presented and published for world-wide audiences of researchers, medical professionals and people with multiple sclerosis. He is co-inventor of MBP8298.
