Jay B. Pieper became a director of Biopure in October 2004. Since 1995, he has been vice president for Corporate Development and Treasury Affairs of Partners HealthCare System, Inc., the parent company of several healthcare-related entities including Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. From 1986 to 1995, he was senior vice president and chief financial officer of The Brigham Medical Center. He is a director of Eclipsys, a healthcare information systems company; WorldCare, Inc., a global telemedicine company; Controlled Risk Insurance Company (CRICO), Ltd., and the Harvard Clinical Research Institute. He is past director of Financial Executives International and past chairman of the Boston Organization of Teaching Hospital Financial Officers. He received his M.B.A. degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and his B.A. degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
W. Richard Light, Ph.D., rejoined Biopure as Vice President, Technology Development, in February 2005. During the previous year, Dr. Light was Vice President, Development, at Aeris Therapeutics in Woburn, Mass. He originally joined Biopure in 1990 and has held several positions, including Vice President, Process Technology; Director, Product Development; and Associate Director, Analytical and Protein Chemistry. Dr. Light previously served as a research biochemist and postdoctoral fellow at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. He holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Rice University, and has a B.S. in biology and a B.A. in chemistry from Washington & Lee University.

Virginia T. Rentko, V.M.D. is Vice President, Preclinical Development, at Biopure. She is board certified in internal medicine and is an adjunct clinical assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Rentko received her V.M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed clinical training at the University of Pennsylvania and Tufts University. She obtained her M.S. degree in Zoology at the Ohio State University and her B.S. degree in Biology at Boston University. David N. Judelson, 74, is a co-founder and has served as Vice Chairman of Biopure since 1984. In 1956 Mr. Judelson also co-founded Gulf and Western Industries, Inc., renamed Paramount Communications, Inc., where he served as President and Chief Operating Officer from 1967 to 1983. He is a co-founder and Chairman of Digital Compression Technology, L.P., a privately owned telecommunications development company founded in 1993. Mr. Judelson holds a bachelor of mechanical engineering degree from New York University College of Engineering.

Steven Mousterakis joined MacDougall Biomedical Communications as Vice President, Creative Services in 2006 to lead its full-service in-house creative department. He brings over 15 years of experience in the creative services field to MBI. Prior to joining MBI, Steven worked as the Creative Services Manager at NitroMed, Inc., where he led all creative, design and production efforts and ensured all marketing and educational materials adhered to FDA regulations. He also developed web sites, investor relations materials, highly regulated labeling and package inserts, product identity systems, advertisements, and tradeshow materials. His previous positions include: Vice President of Creative Services at Feinstein Kean Healthcare, where he rebuilt its full-service creative department that specialized in the development of communications, marketing, and educational materials for leading worldwide biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies; and Creative Services Manager at Biopure Corporation, where he supported all corporate and product creative initiatives. Steven's strengths include corporate brand image creation, web site and multimedia development, marketing, and communication print materials design, and creative strategy execution. He holds a BFA in Design/Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design and also studied Liberal Arts at Brown University.

Dr. Koop was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health, U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) in March 1981, and sworn in as Surgeon General on November 17, 1981. As Surgeon General, Dr. Koop oversaw the activities of the 6,000 member PHS Commissioned Corps and advised the public on health matters such as smoking and health, diet and nutrition, environmental health hazards and the importance of immunization and disease prevention. He also became the government's chief spokesman on AIDS. After serving two terms, Dr. Koop continues to educate the public about health issues through his writings and electronic media, as Senior Scholar of the C. Everett Koop Institute at Dartmouth.
