John Cottingham is Life Technologies' Chief Legal Officer, and served as Invitrogen's Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary since May 2004. He served as Vice President, General Counsel for Invitrogen from September 2000 until May 2004. Prior to the merger of the former Life Technologies, Inc. (LTI) with Invitrogen, Mr. Cottingham was the General Counsel and Assistant Secretary of LTI from January 1996 to September 2000. From May 1988 through December 1995, he served as an international corporate attorney with the Washington, D.C. office of Fulbright and Jaworski L.L.P. Mr. Cottingham received his B.S. in political science from Furman University, his J.D. from the University of South Carolina, his LL.M. in Securities Regulation from Georgetown University and his M.S.E.L. from the University of San Diego. He is a member of the board of directors of the California Healthcare Institute and the San Diego chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel.

Peter M. Leddy has served as Invitrogen's Senior Vice President of Human Resources since July 2005. Prior to Invitrogen, Dr. Leddy held several senior management positions with Dell Incorporated from 2000 to 2005 and was most recently, Vice President, Human Resources for Americas Operations. Prior to joining Dell Incorporated, Dr. Leddy served as the Executive Vice President for Human Resources at Promus Hotel Corporation (Doubletree, Embassy Suites). Dr. Leddy also served in a variety of executive and human resource positions at PepsiCo. Dr. Leddy received his B.A. in Psychology from Creighton University and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Balakrishnan S. Iyer, age 50 —Mr. Iyer has been a director of Conexant since 2002. He served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of the Company from January 1999 to June 2003. He has served as a consultant to Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (networking infrastructure semiconductors) from June 2003 through December 2004. Mr. Iyer is currently a director of IHS, Inc., Invitrogen Corporation, Power Integrations, QLogic Corporation and Skyworks Solutions, Inc.

Bradley G. Lorimier is a co-founder of Avalon and has served as a member of our board of directors since December 1999. Since 1999, Mr. Lorimier has been an independent consultant to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Mr. Lorimier has served in leadership positions in both the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, including as Vice President of Licensing and Vice President of Corporate Development at Johnson & Johnson and as Senior Vice President and Director of Human Genome Sciences. He is currently on the board of directors for Invitrogen Corporation and was a director of Matrix Pharmaceutical, Inc. from December 1997 to March 2002. Mr. Lorimier received his B.S. from the University of Illinois in 1967.

William J. Gedale is a Managing General Partner and co-founder of NGN Capital. He has been in the investment business since 1965. Mr. Gedale joined NGN from Mount Everest Advisors, which he founded in 1996. He has served as an investment advisor to individuals and as a full time consultant to Warburg-Pincus Capital Management, the world's largest venture capital firm, between 1999 and 2001. In this capacity, he initiated the $140 million dollar financing of ZymoGenetics. He also helped arrange the $350 million funding by Sandoz (Novartis) of the Scripps Research Institute and the $40 million funding of the Neuroscience Institute of La Jolla, California (of which he is a trustee). Before founding Mount Everest Advisors he was a Managing Director at John W. Bristol & Co. in 1995. Before this, as of 1989, Mr. Gedale was President & Chief Executive Officer of General American Investors, which he had joined in 1969. He is currently Chairman of Promosone and Vice Chairman of Enzybiotics. He has been a director of Gamco (Gabelli Holding), General American Investors, Allied Clinical Laboratories, U.S. Home Health Care, Unilab Corporation, and BioReliance Corporation. William Gedale holds an M.B.A. from New York University, a J.D. from Fordham Law School, and an A.B. from Syracuse University.
