James DeFazio is the Director of Pharmacy Services for Bon Secours Health System, a Catholic health care ministry headquartered in Marriottsville, MD, that fulfills its commitment to integrated care delivery in 12 communities in seven states, primarily on the East Coast. The system includes 18 acute-care hospitals, one psychiatric hospital, six nursing care facilities, numerous ambulatory sites, six assisted living facilities, and home health and hospice services. Mr. DeFazio works with Bon Secours local systems to enhance pharmacy department performance in both acute and non-acute operations and to achieve operational goals in clinical, quality, economic, and other aspects of pharmacy management. He leads system-level initiatives in identifying cost savings and performance improvement opportunities, quantifying the value of those opportunities, working with local system staff to develop implementation strategies, define resource requirements and work plans, and measure results achieved. A 24-year veteran of hospital pharmacy administration, Mr. DeFazio served as Corporate Director of Pharmacy Services at Forum Health System from 1999 to 2003 and as Director of Pharmacy at Forbes Regional Hospital from 2003 to 2005, Uniontown Hospital from 1995 to 1999, and HEALTHSOUTH LEIR & Greatlakes Rehabilitation Hospitals from 1985 to 1995. Mr. DeFazio received a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh, Clinical Pharmacokinetics training from the University of Florida, and Nursing Home Administration training from Temple University.
Ellen Lengel, RN graduated from Baptist School of Nursing and has more than ten years experience as a critical care nurse along with extensive health care management experience including: cardiovascular program management, hospital supervisor as well as director of nursing. Ellen is responsible for collaborating with the medical leadership team in the development of clinical protocols, management of the daily operations of the open heart programas well as working alongside the leadership team to further meet community needs.

Rebekah is a Director of Corporate Responsibility for Bon Secours Health System. She is our resource person for legal questions and issues. She and her husband reside in Washington DC.
Dr. Dunton is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon. Prior to joining Bon Secours, he had been a cardiothoracic surgeon at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Concord, N.H. since 2001. In this capacity, he was involved in active management of clinical service, growth of services, public and medical community education and clinical care of cardiothoracic surgical patients. Also, he served as the medical coordinator of the Concord Hospital Open Heart Program and as an assistant professor of surgery at Dartmouth Medical School. He was involved in academic activities at Northeastern University Perfusion Training Program and research activities for the Northern New England Cardiovascular Disease Study Group. From 1996 to 2001, Dr. Dunton was a cardiothoracic surgeon at the Wichita Clinic in Wichita, Kan. He was chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita and an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. From 1989 to 1996, he was a cardiothoracic surgeon at Overholt Cardiothoracic Clinic in Boston, where he also served as a clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School and the chief of thoracic surgery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Dr. Dunton received a Bachelor's degree in biology from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, and his medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, N.Y. He did a general surgery internship and residency at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Conn., where he received the Upjohn Outstanding Intern Award. He was a senior resident in cardiac surgery at Boston Children's Hospital and completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. Dr. Dunton is currently enrolled in the Bioethics Master's Degree Program at Albany Medical College. He has co-authored and published numerous articles and has presented papers to many surgical societies. He has been a member of the American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular Surgery and Anesthesia since 2004. Dr. Dunton is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Chest Surgeons and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

Amy Barco earned her undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech. After completing the Eastern Virginia Medical School Master of Physician Assistant program, she joined Bon Secours Cardiovascular Specialists in 2008. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Virginia Academy of Physician Assistants.
Ben Jao, Jr, MD, has joined the Bon Secours Heart and Vascular Institute as the cardiac surgery team's adult cardiac anesthesiologist. Prior to joining Bon Secours, Dr. Jao was a staff anesthesiologist at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Calif. He has also held positions at several hospitals in New York, including St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Geneva General Hospital and Lutheran Medical Center, as well as Williamson Memorial Hospital in West Virginia. He was also a clinical assistant professor at SUNY Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine in New York. Dr. Jao received his Bachelor's degree from the University of San Carlos and his medical degree from the Southwestern University College of Medicine, both in the Philippines. He completed externships at Harlem Hospital Medical Center in New York City and Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn. He did an internship in medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and residencies in anesthesiology at Cook County Hospital, Loyola University Medical Center and New York Methodist Hospital. He completed a fellowship in cardiovascular anesthesiology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York. Dr. Jao is a diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology and a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists.

Daniel Thibodeau holds undergraduate degrees from Radford University and Old Dominion University. He earned his Master's in Health Professions and his designation as Physician Assistant from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. As a Physician Assistant, he has cared for patients in Emergency Medicine and Cardiac surgery units.
David Kennedy became a non-executive Director in 1989. He is a director of a number of companies in Ireland and overseas, including The Manchester Airport Group plc, Bon Secours Health System Limited, Drury Communications Ltd and Pimco Funds Global Investors Series plc. He was formerly Chief Executive of Aer Lingus plc. (Aged 67).
Dr. Skillen, a Clinical Cardiologist graduated cum laude from Barrington College, Rhode Island, and earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at the United States Public Health Service Hospital at Staten Island, New York. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Sarris, a Clinical Cardiologist received a Bachelor's of Science from City University of New York and his MD from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. His internship and residency in Internal Medicine was completed at Barnes Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Further study includes a stint as Clinical Fellow, Cardiovascular Disease, at Washington University School of Medicine. Since 2002, Dr. Sarris has been Medical Director of Diagnostic Cardiology at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. Certified by the National Board of Echocardiography, he is a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (pending).

Gretchen Loyola, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, earned a Bachelor's of Science degree from Butler University, and a Graduate Performance Diploma from Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University. John Henry Artrip, MD, brings additional expertise to the cardiac surgery team of the Bon Secours Heart and Vascular Institute. Dr. Artrip received his bachelor's degree from Amherst College, Amherst, Mass., and his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit. Most recently, Dr. Artrip was a clinical fellow, congenital heart surgery at Denver Children's Hospital. Prior to that, he worked at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Center as a clinical fellow in heart transplantation and ventricular assist devices, as well as cardiothoracic surgery, and electrophysiology and pacing. Dr. Artrip also worked in New York at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital as clinical fellow, thoracic surgery. He was chief resident in general surgery at Bellevue Hospital/Manhattan V.A. Hospital, N.Y., and categorical general surgery resident at New York University in the department of surgery. He has co-authored numerous original publications, review articles and book chapters, and is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Medical Association, as well as an associate member of American College of Surgeons.
