Alain Couder , 62, has served as a director and our President and Chief Executive Officer since August 2007. Prior to joining Bookham, Mr. Couder was the President and CEO of Solid Information Technology Inc., a supplier of database solutions, from March 2005 to August 2007. From May 2004 to February 2005, Mr. Couder was a Venture Advisor to Sofinnova Ventures, Inc., a venture capital company. From April 2003 to March 2004, Mr. Couder was the President and CEO of Confluent Software, Inc., a software company. From August 2002 to March 2003, Mr. Couder was President and CEO of IP Dynamics, Inc., a software company. Mr. Couder served as Chief Operating Officer of Agilent Technologies, Inc., a measurement and analysis company, from February 2000 to May 2002. Earlier in his career, Mr. Couder worked for Packard-Bell NEC, Groupe Bull, Hewlett Packard and IBM, each a computer hardware company. Mr. Couder is a director at Sanmina-SCI, an electronic manufacturing services firm, since February 2007. Mr. Couder holds a Master s degree in electrical engineering from the Ecole Superieure d Electricite in Paris.

Dr. Smart was previously with Avanex Corporation, most recently serving as Vice President of Product Management. Before being appointed to this position, he was the General Manager of the Advanced Modules & Subsystems Business Unit where he was responsible for the product development and P&L of the optical amplifier, tunable dispersion compensator, and subsystem product lines. Dr. Smart has nearly twenty years experience in the field of fiber optics having held multiple marketing and product development roles at Corning Incorporated, Amoco Corporation and AT&T Bell Laboratories. He earned a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Southampton, England and a bachelor's degree with first class honors in physics from the University of Birmingham, England.

Mr. Turin has served as the CFO of Oclaro since July 2008. He joined Oclaro in July 2005, with his most recent title prior to being named CFO being Vice President of Finance - Corporate Controller and Treasury. Previously, Mr. Turin was at Silicon Spice, a systems-on-a-chip telecommunications start-up, where he played a lead role in several successful financing rounds and served as a member of the team that closed the sale of the company to Broadcom. In addition, Mr. Turin was the Corporate Controller at Cirrus Logic, a publicly traded semiconductor company. Prior to his corporate finance experience, Mr. Turin spent 12 years with Deloitte & Touche, rising to the position of Senior Manager of Audit Services. A substantial portion of his time with Deloitte & Touche was in the firm's Silicon Valley practice. Mr. Turin earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and commerce from the University of Alberta. He is also a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta.

Ken Ibbs joined Bookham in 2006 and is now responsible for the Photonics Tools, Industrial Systems and Industrial Optical filters portfolio of businesses. He has 30 years' experience in the Lasers and Photonics Industry. Dr. Ibbs has previously served in a number of leading Laser companies most recently as the Director of Marketing at JDSU lasers. He has also held senior marketing and sales roles at Lightwave Electronics, Newport Corp. and Coherent. Having lived and worked in the US, Japan and Europe, Ken brings a wide range of experience in global high technology marketing. Dr. Ibbs holds a Ph.D in Laser Spectroscopy from the University of Sussex in the UK and was a Research Fellow at the University of Texas. He has published numerous papers on lasers and their application in materials processing, and co-authored the book "Laser Chemical Processing for Microelectronics".

Mr. LeMaitre has been with Oclaro since February 2008, most recently as the Company's Vice President of Telecommunication Sales and Vice President of Corporate Marketing. Prior to joining Oclaro, Mr. LeMaitre was with Avanex Corporation, most recently serving as Chief Marketing Officer in charge of worldwide sales and marketing. Previously, Mr. LeMaitre was President and Chief Executive Officer of Lightconnect, a leading supplier of optical MEMS components and modules. In addition, he worked for Alcatel and its joint venture with Sprint International in a variety of general management, senior marketing and engineering positions in the United States, France, the Netherlands and Italy. Mr. LeMaitre earned a master's degree in mathematics and computer science from Nantes University in France. He also holds an engineering degree from Ecole Nationale Superieure des Telecommunications (ENST) in Paris.

Dr. Bernard Couillaud currently serves as Oclaro's Chairman of the Board of Directors. He previously served as a director of Oclaro from May 2008 to April 2009. The majority of Dr. Couillaud's career was spent with laser manufacturer Coherent, Inc., where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer from July 1996 until October 2002. Dr. Couillaud was the Chairman of Coherent's Board of Directors from October 2002 until his retirement in June 2007. From 2000 to 2005, Dr. Couillaud was the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Lambda Physik AG, a German public company. Dr. Couillaud holds a PHD in Physics and was a full Professor at the University of Bordeaux and a CNRS Fellow. Dr. Couillaud is also a member of the French National Academy of Technology.

Dr. Barbarossa has an impressive record of accomplishment in management roles working in some of the foremost companies in the optical communications industry, including Agilent Technologies, Lucent Technologies, AT&T, and BT. Dr. Barbarossa joined Avanex in 2000 as Director of Research and Development. He was then promoted to Chief Technology Officer and Sr. Vice President of Product Development, and served in this capacity until 2004. From 2004 through 2005 Dr. Barbarossa was responsible for the Avanex Active Component Business Unit. From 2005 until his appointment as President and Chief Executive Officer in 2008, Dr. Barbarossa continued to serve as Avanex Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Barbarossa has played a pivotal role in all acquisitions that Avanex has made, including the acquisitions of the Photonic Business Division of Corning, Alcatel Optronics, and the Optical Networking Division of Vitesse Semiconductor that radically transformed the company in 2003. Before joining Avanex, Dr. Barbarossa had management responsibilities for the development of advanced optical switching platforms in the Optical Networking Division of Agilent Technologies. In addition, he led the design team of the Optical Application Specific Integrated Circuits department at Lucent Technologies. Earlier, he was a Member of the Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Labs and a research associate in the Oxide Glasses for Future Networks Group at BT Labs. Dr. Barbarossa received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and a bachelor of science in electrical engineering, cum laude, from the University of Bari, Italy.

Joel A. Smith, III is Dean of the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina - Columbia . He joined USC in October 2000, two months after retiring from Bank of America. Smith joined Bank of America in 1971. During his tenure, he advanced from credit analyst to President of Bank of America East, with responsibilities for the Commercial, Small Business, Premier, and Consumer Banking divisions in seven states and the District of Columbia , representing more than $90 billion in assets under management. A native of Columbia , South Carolina, Smith graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, with a bachelor of arts degree in political science and economics. He also attended the National Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma and the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University . Smith served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971 and in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1971 to 1987, when he retired at the rank of Commander. Smith serves on the boards of the S.C. Business Center for Excellence in Education, the S.C. ETV Endowment, and the Board of Regents of the University of the South. He is a member and former chairman of the Board of Spoleto Festival USA and was a co-chairman of its 25th Anniversary Campaign. In addition, he serves on the Board of Avanex Corporation, chairing the Audit Committee, and on the Board of Directors for NetBank, chairing the Compensation Committee. He is an organizer, director, and chairman of the Audit Committee for Carolina National Bank & Trust and is also an organizer and director of The Palmetto Institute. In January 2003, Smith was awarded the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian honor given by the governor of South Carolina . In May 2001, Smith was inducted into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame; in 2000, he was named Humanitarian of the Year by the United Way . In 1997, he was named S.C. Economic Development Volunteer of the Year by the South Carolina Economic Development Association. He received the "Tree of Life" award from the National Jewish Fund, and was awarded honorary degrees by South Carolina State University , Fayetteville State University, and the University of South Carolina- Aiken. In 1994, he received the Businessman of the Year award from the S.C. Chamber of Commerce.

Ted Collins has served as director since May 2008. Mr. Collins adds extensive investment banking, management and legal experience to Bookham. He is currently Managing Director and a Partner at ChinaVest where he is involved in private equity investments in China. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of the California Bank of Commerce, is director and audit committee chairman of the Taiwan Greater China Fund, and is a director of MedioStream, based in Los Altos, California. Previously, Mr. Collins was a Partner at the law firm of McCutchen, Doyle, Brown, & Enersen where he was responsible for the Greater China practice. He has served as counsel to various investment groups, banks, and manufacturing companies in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and has been a member of the State Bars of California and Texas.
