Gary created a startup software company, Business Software Design, in California shortly after college in 1986. He later moved the company's headquarters to Texas in 1988 while maintaining an office in California. BSD focused on creating business management tools for delivery concepts in the restaurant industry. In 1990, the company was restructured as a Texas-based corporation under the name Breakaway International. As part of the expansion efforts of Breakaway, a complete point-of-sale system was created to supplement the business management tools developed earlier. In 1996, Gary completed the acquisition of Davis Systems, Inc., of California, to extend the product line and expand the business. In 1998, Gary put together a new team of developers at Breakaway to start development of a new point-of-sale and business management system known as Vision. Shortly after its release in 2000, Domino's Pizza selected the Vision product as its Next Generation Store System after reviewing systems from 63 companies. In 2002, Breakaway acquired assets from OpenTable of California that included the ProHost table management system for restaurants and RSViP, a sophisticated restaurant reservation system. As the company continued to grow, NTN Buzztime, Inc. (AMEX:NTN) took notice and made an offer to acquire the assets of Breakaway International. The deal closed in July of 2003 and Breakaway became a division of NTN known as NTN Software Solutions. Gary served as the Sr. Vice President and General Manager of the Software Solutions division through February 2005 when he completed the acquisition of certain assets from NTN and started Intura Solutions.
